Don’t forget to get any dead or browning leaves off your plants. I find that if I let them sit on the plant, the plant uses more energy trying to revive those bad leaves

Great video Ashley. The most common houseplants, which to me is also the most under rated, are the ever wonderful Sansevieria. Which ever one you get, they are always a trooper and never disappoint. Sometimes nurseries do them a disservice by having so many of them. But if you find one in the bunch that you like, they become a stand alone showstopper in any home. And being super easy care is a huge bonus! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ashley!! Thanks for this beautiful video. I just wanna share that ALL my calatheas including marantas are ALL in a self watering pots, they love their soil to stay moist and I only use distilled water in all of them. When the water reservoir gets dry, I wait a couple of days before I refill it, give them some break to breath. They are all doing so great so far! TRY IT!! I guarantee you, you will never have to worry about ALL CALATHEAS anymore!! Now that I learned what they want, it has become my COLLECTIONS now. I just got the lemon lime maranta yesterday and it’s gorgeous. And yes, and they DO NOT like so much light. Hope this will help😊

Thanks for highlighting the more common plants, Ashley! I don't think they get enough recognition in the plant community, and are all beautiful in their own right. I have your Manjula's twin. Seriously, mine looks EXACTLY like yours. Not dead, but not growing. I'm really enjoying Syngoniums right now. There are so many varieties, and I'm just enjoying them most of all now.

Amount my favorite common houseplants are Aglaneoma - such easy care & so many colorful variations. Nothing is more beautiful than a trailing basket of heart 💚leaf philodendron. My jade & lemon lime are constantly pushing out new growth, even now during winter. I find these do better for me than pothos. 3rd are selloum philodendron. I’m literally obsessed with mine, the large leaf foliage, aerial roots & strong twisting trunk just amazes me. Foliage on many dumb cane are s as Lao worry a mention - my camouflage leafs are excuisite 💚💚 this was very difficult to narrow down - I love all my common plants. I think my shopping trips to big box stores bring me more joy than overpriced nurseries

  • @gladyspichardo8121
    @gladyspichardo8121 3 роки тому

Hi Ashley! I've been following you since the beginning of the launch of your channel. It's amazing how much your collection has grown. You have some gorgeous plants in there. I have loved and collected plants all of my adult life. And as any plants lover would tell you I have killed so many plants I am ashamed to admit it. At first I killed them by overwatering them. Now, I have gone from over watering my plants to under watering them. And what I have learned is that you can kill some plants by under watering them. Case and point, are Calatheas I've killed about three pink stripe orbifolia, and just as many Lemon lime Maranthas. I like them so much that I even gifted a couple of them to family members who are notorious for being plant killers. I was puzzled to realize that while I had killed mine several times, theirs were thriving. After analyzing the reasons why, I noticed that what they have being doing differently from me is that theirs were always kept moist and they had a pebble tray that had water at all times. (the water in the tray we're not touching the roots of the plants bc the plants were in two pots. I hate giving up so I went out and bought the plants again. It's been two weeks since I purchased the plants and I am following what my family members do with their Calatheas and Maranthas. So far they're doing good. Go figure, I was supposed to teach them how to care for their plants, but instead, they taught me. Also I bought a Manjula which I put in a terrarium that has a light. The leaves grew so big and the variegation is out of this world. Sorry Ashley that I bored you with this long comment, but I couldn't help myself and had to share my experience with these plants.

This is such a random observation but I noticed it on a different vid too, the "zoom effect" that keeps happening in the intro when you're talking is sooo distracting from the awesome words that you're saying! I find myself focusing more on the zoom than you if that makes sense. Haha just a tip :) also my favorite "common houseplant" has definitely got to be my hoya pubicalyx! The splash is so pretty. 🌿

Hey thought I'd share the happy of my day, my houseplants selection is mainly succulents, 2. Crested Fred Ives a large standard jade almost (2 foot tall) a mini leaf jade, a large aloe with leaves as wide as my hand, 2 holiday cacti that bloom numerous times a year and a standard red maranta, it started as a 3 leaf cutting and is huge, spilling at least 6 inches below the pot it just keeps going and blooming frequently, I ignore it, forget it and actually soak in a pail of rain water when I remember. Oh and a diffembachia I've cut down twice because it reached my ceiling. Finally got a baby to sprout from ome of the trunk cuttings.
Any way.... I live in outstate small town Western Minnesota 100 miles from any "large town" more than 15,000. So our rare tropical tend to be sanseveria and bromeliads. Hahaha I finally actually found a standard ZZ at home depot today. 6" pot for $9.98 I picled the fullest pot which happened to have a broken pot, just the nursery grade liner pot, none the less I asled for a discount and got 20% taken off :) that's a good shopping day and it will look beautiful in a nice white glazed pot on my new dark cherry desk.
Small beans for some, but its a good day for me.

I love syngoniums too. I can't understand why they're so underrated. It took me a few months to figure out the peperomiodes. I was not watering consistently enough so every time I would water it at least one leaf on the bottom would turn yellow and fall off, but like yours it was always putting out new growth. Once I started watering more regularly it has exploded with new growth and the yellowing has stopped!

I love my common beauties: Hoyas, of course, and Pothos, spider plants, Wandering Jews, Aglaonemas, Scindapsus.........there's so many gorgeous affordable options out there! My Manjula is a veeeerrryyyyyyy slow grower.......I wonder why that is? My Pilea needs birth control because she's popping out babies and growing like a weed!! If I lived closer I'd give you a pot of babies! I've been able to sell some on my local market place for $20 - in each 4" terra cotta pot there's 3 babies at least 3 inches tall fully rooted. I think the Brazil is very underrated also! I LOVE the coloring on mine! I also LOVE the look of a Purple Waffle Plant......the dark purple and dark green colors are so beautiful and the bumpy texture is really unique! I think you'd love it! I got mine at Lowe's a few months ago for under $10.

This is what a lot of UA-camrs in plant people say to about potting repotting plants in the winter time however I I repot whenever necessary I have grow lights and I use them just like you're using them and so it's not like they really go into that dorm it slow down growing stuff depending on the plant in fact I just repotted a whole bunch of them that were popping out of their pots and they're still shooting out New Growth so I mean you can obviously if that's what you want to do you wait but since it's in an area with grow lights and hopefully humidity cuz that's one thing Miranda is like I don't see the point of waiting if they need to be up potted then I bought it I mean it's not like they don't have the proper lighting

Hi Ashley, just wondering did you get your Hoya retusa from planterina? If so I got one too, mine did good at first then started going down hill, and as much as it cost I was determined not to loose it. I took it out of the pot and put it in basically the same size pot but it had way more holes than the one it came in, then did some research, they do like it a little cooler and I do let mine dry out but not quite as much as some of my other hoyas and give it pretty good bright light. I think the pot with more drainage holes did help it the most. Hope this helps yours!

Not sure why, but I have struggled with my Philodendron Lemon Lime. My first one basically melted and I’m crossing my fingers for the one I have now 🤞🏼 They seem more delicate than the green or the Brazil 🤷🏼‍♀️
Tagged you on IG so you can check out my most recent African Violet purchase 💜

I think calathea medallion is an easier calathea. The one I had lived in low light and pooped a whole bunch of baby’s out in January. Sadly, it got spider mites when I moved, and I realized too late ;(

I see you have a lot of grow lights. It looks like it’s a sunny day there. I know it’s winter. Do we really need that much light on our plants just because it’s winter and do you leave them on all day? Also do you leave your humidifier on all day? I live in NY. Most of my plants are in a west facing window? Love your videos.

Since you have west facing sunlight you don't need grow lights. West facing sun is great for plants you are getting at least 6 hrs of sunlight. I believe Ashley said her plants are in East facing

This room doesn’t get much light and I do have the humidifier stay around 65% especially in winter. I have the heat on and it dries out the air. Gotta keep my expensive tropical babies happy
