  • Gado Gado is one of Indonesia’s favourite dishes of mixed vegetables with peanut sauce, tempeh, tofu boiled egg, boiled potato and topped with crackers. You can also use lettuce, steamed broccoli, steamed cauliflower, fresh carrots, fresh red cabbage all works very well . I am sorry at the end of the video I forgot to put the crackers on the plate uuuppss 😀
    Here are the ingredients:
    For the vegetables and topping -
    Hard boiled egg x1
    Boiled potato x1
    Boiled Sweet corn x1 or you can use one from the tin
    1 handful of snake beans
    1 handful of bean sprouts
    1 handful of spinach
    Tempeh, Tofu
    Melinjo crackers or prawns crackers
    Lemon Basil (optional)
    For peanut dipping sauce
    1/2 cup deep fried peanut or roasted peanut blended
    3 chillies (bali hot pepper)
    2 garlic cloves
    1 kaffir lime leaf
    1/4 tsp shrimp paste
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 1/2 tbsp palm sugar
    1 tbsp tamarind juice
    Juice of 1/2 kaffir lime fruit
    1/2 cup Fresh water
    1/2 tbsp sweet soy sauce

    There are so many recipes online for Gado Gado. Some seem very complicated but this one appears authentic. I'm going to make it tonight - thank you!

      @@novibalikitchen I did make it but with some changes for locally available vegetables. Also Tempeh was not available so I just used more tofu. It was delicious! Thank you :-)

    I have seen several other Gado Gado recipes/preparations that also looked good, but this one looks the most delicious with some special ingredients. Beautifully prepared and presented, I can almost taste it! Terima kasih!

    My mother always served gado gado with warm peanut sauce. I really like this contrast between the cold vegetables and the warm sauce. Is this also sometimes done in Indonesia, or is this just a weird dutch twist to it?

      Yes that is fine, you can cook it first and serve while warm , some people do this here in Indonesia😊

    In the Netherlands we call it Petjel, is that the same thing?

      They quite similar, normally in Indonesia gado gado using fresh and cooked vegetables and pecel using only cooked vegetables 🙏🏽😊

    How is the bowl called, where you smash all the stuff? I am looking for such a thing, as it seems that in Indonesia it is used very often. Didin‘t find it in the web. Maybe you can post a link where to buy a similar one? Thank you!

      I'm not sure but I think it's called a cobek, alternatively you can search for "Indonesian mortar and pestle"

      The bowl is called ULEKAN or COBEK , best to try your local kitchenwareshop . I bought mine on the trip to Java. Good Luck😊
