I thought about doing something similar to my outdoor kitchen that has a very similar layout, but changed my mind for 2 reasons. The first is we do a lot of cooking and if I want to boil water for pasta or something similar, I would rather do that on the outdoor stove top and keep the moisture out of the trailer. The second is I recently camped on a site that was a downhill slope. The tongue had to go way down to get the trailer level, which in turn put the back of the trailer way up. This put that outdoor kitchen up at chest height, which would make for some very awkward cooking on the griddle for me and completely unusable for my wife. Because of this, I have decided to leave it alone and put the griddle on a stand so I know that it is always at a good cooking height.

Cool Mod! I think the outdoor kitchen on many travel trailers is a great space that people overlook. My next project is to turn mine into a laundry room. It already has the water, drain and electric, so it's perfect!

Maybe look into getting some heavy duty drawer slide extensions? That might pull it out another foot.

Thanks for another great video and congrats on your new rig! I have a 2 Burner CampChef system with a BBQ and a Cast Iron Griddle (like the Blackstone) - it can be a stove, a BBQ, the Griddle or any combination. After using it for many months, I too found it to be a pain to set up and take down - particularly when we were weekending. It took some work, but I researched and used a Moryde 200% extension tray, attached a coffee table pull up & away extension on that, and had a metal base fabricated for the CampChef to sit on. I also installed an extension hose to the Propane under the coach. Now I can slide the entire system in and out of one of the bays - it slides well away from the coach so as not to have smoke go in. I needed to get it past a slide out, which is why it was a challenge. It works really well. I pzrticlulary like being able to slide it in at night and lock it up, rather than leaving it outside for a few days. I'd share a couple photo's but not sure how to do that here. It was a project - but well worth it!

Cool I'd love to see some pictures of the slide system you made. If you use Google photos you can create a link to your photo and share that link here. I'd bet iPhone has a similar feature. Sounds really nice.

We are summer campers, so it is very rare that we don't cook outside. We have a Coleman Stove and a Weber BBQ that operate off a single Propane Tank (either 9 lbs or 20 lbs). I have a T that splits the Propane. Got the T from a Local Propane Distributor.

Nice mod, Jared - I did something similar in a storage space at the back of our Leisure Travel Van Unity Twin Bed. I was concerned about heat and smoke getting back in the compartment, so I used triple segment slides that gave me more extension to get it out and away further from the fiberglass exterior and the storage bay.
    Keep the videos coming!

Great ideas! We also have the Blackstone and we just don’t have a need for the cooktop anymore. We also have a Grand Design - but an Imagine series - but the outdoor kitchen is very similar. I’ve put the Blackstone on top of the cooktop and used the lid and “wings” to keep down the grease and protect the flame from wind - and thanks to your video for I see how to keep that lid AND have the protection of the cooktop wings. Love your ideas - always so practical. Looking forward to seeing more of your upgrades and mods! 👍

I’ve been wanting to do this on our GD Imagine Travel Trailer for my Weber grill but never pulled the trigger. I didn’t want to lose that shelf. I was also nervous about the heat being that close to the RV so good to hear all was good for you. Nice job. I could never give up that outside fridge, so convenient.

Everyone raves about the Blackstone griddle, and I'm sure it's great, but I love my camp chef! I have the 2 burner stove, and I bought the griddle to go over 1 burner. The other burner is free for my Dutch oven. Or if I need 2 Dutch ovens and no griddle, the griddle is easily put away into its carrying bag.

I like that conversion. I use my outdoor kitchen as a storage area. I keep a couple of large bins, a small bin and a few misc. items in mine. I keep extra bottles of Gatorade or soda in my fridge but I leave it unplugged. As of yet, we have not used it for an outdoor kitchen. Hopefully our paths will cross one day. Thanks for sharing! I may do this, but I already have that connection with a longer hose and use a small table. Definitely keeping the frig. I'm more inclined to spend time to make our spray port connected to hot water with a valve set to a good temp to have a spot to wash hands right at the outside kitchen. Outside shower is on the other side of our 2021 Alpha Wolf 26DBHL. And, make the "sink" that is just a pan by putting a drain in it and hose to a 5 gallon bucket. Then I can just dump the water into the inside sink.

I was looking at RVs that had griddles and thought that was the way to go. Who wants to clean up burners? It is nice to have most of the grease and mess on a flat surface to clean. It is also good if it is rolling off the front on the ground or in a contained tray. I would definitely swap to a griddle if I had burners.

I have the same Blackstone Griddle on my Grand Design Solitude outside kitchen. The heat actually melted the counter top behind the griddle the first time I used it. I suspected the griddle did not stay all the way out when cooking. What I am going to do is make a “L” shaped heat shield to protect the counter top. I would watch the heat that radiates out from the back between the griddle and the base.

I like the choice of putting your own grill in there. I also have a Grand Design with that same outdoor kitchen set-up. May I ask why you ditched the fridge? I think the fridge would be more useful if it was a 2-way or even 3-way fridge, but even as an AC-only fridge it seems like a good place to put ingredients you are using for that evening's meal until you're ready for them, or for storing drinks for an evening outside under that stars, hanging with the neighbors or friends.

An observation: that grill of yours looks like it will take significantly longer to cool down completely than the stove that was originally there (and the grill surface comes a lot closer to the compartment walls when inside). You are also talking about storing combustibles (like paper towels) in an enclosed space that houses an item that heats up quite considerably. I'm sure you already have thought of this, but for those who haven't: make sure the grill is completely cooled down before sliding it back into the compartment.

The hose for the cooktop is connected to the quick disconnect under the outdoor kitchen when it is used. The hose you saw in the video was only connected to the cooktop - the other end connects under the trailer. That’s why Jared showed the hose he got for Christmas that is longer to connect under the trailer at one end and to the griddle with the adapter on the other.
