      Glad to hear you found a use for them! I'm all for them if they are being *used!* Thank you for sharing.

      Me, too. Wonderful for wrapping paper and gift bags. I also have one I use for random textiles I'm not ready to purge yet. If you keep only one for this purpose, it creates a nice limitation. Send them to me!!!! LOL!😁😂

    I have used 3 or 4 of them for many years. They were in my grandmother's belongings and also used them for many years. They are very practical in certain circumstances but there were never hoarding quantities of them. When the oldest, from the 1950s and 60s finally deteriorated because they were synthetic, they were thrown away but I kept the cloth and metal zippers and re-purposed them in a sewing project. Not all of us are absurd hoarders nor wasteful consumers/disposers. Some of us were not born into luxury and have had to do without, or make-do.

      I'm always happy to hear stories of any item being used - for its intended purpose or otherwise. People call me in when they have any number of items that they've been saving and *not* using. If something is truly useful for them, it of course stays. It's just that 9 out of 10 blanket bags that I see are a part of a collection that numbers a dozen+ and are certainly not used. I've seen hoarding quantities of the most every-day things to the oddest things across all socioeconomic backgrounds in homes of all shapes and sizes. What unites us all is that we want to live better and be at peace with what we have. It's an honor to be invited into so many of these homes to help people define what useful is to them.

    Funny, found a plastic bag under my bed right the next day after I watched this, and instantly threw it away. Thx for removing the mental block. I also laughed when I heard your accordion file tip, as I struggled with that tool mightily. Now I feel good about tossing it. Thank you for all the great insight!

    I generally do not keep them, however one fit perfectly over my 90 year old Dad's foldable/portable wheelchair, that I use when I take him to doctors' appointments. It keeps the dust off and it works perfectly.

    Hi Casey! Oh yeah, I have a few of those plastic blanket bags--always thinking maybe someday, we'll use them. But of course, we never have.

      Hi Aviva! I came across a stash of these in a client's home as recently as yesterday. Hope you were able to let yours go!

    I personally would use a bag like that to fill with a blanket to donate along with other supplies for possibly homeless people that I encounter things like socks washcloth towel comb shampoo body soap snack foods and water bottles.not only could they use the stuff but the bag may serve a purpose for them and their situation to

      Good idea, as long as it actually happens. So many of my clients have lots of reasons for why they keep things but that reason is never actualized. I'm all for keeping things if they're truly, actually *useful.* Thanks for sharing!

    what?! i use the heck outta those blanket bags. they help when moving, as they are very strong and sturdy. i also use them to store seasoning clothing and before i had a filing area for my paperwork, i stored them in one that was sized perfectly for papers. i also use them to house toddler toys and put them at the top of my daughter's closet. i rotate her toys out now and again so they'll seem "new" to her when i pull them out again.

      I love that you're actually using them! I'm a fan of any item that is actually *used.* I take a second look at things that are collected for "one day maybe" and that day never comes! Thanks for sharing.

    You are right, no one uses these. When you get one with a good zipper, it's somehow harder. Unfortunately, I have one or two with a blanket still inside, unopened.

      The more quality it feels, the harder it is too to put it into a landfill, but what can you do.....? Sigh.

    I literally am looking to buy bags exactly like that. But I don’t like the straight plastic ones. I like the ones that are breathable. Currently I have a ton of clothes and quality blankets in big black trash bags. Those are not breathable. The blanket bags are stackable.

      I have some that are cloth. They were hand-me-downs from clients who were decluttering their dust bags from large purses and luggage. I use them to bundle and store my off season clothing.

    I think that if I hang on to them they will magically become recyclable. I feel the pain of the landfill

    • @KacyPaide
      @KacyPaide  7 років тому

      I feel so much landfill pain doing what I do for a living. I'm someone who recycles even the tiniest sliver of paper. Your point is true though: the longer you keep it, it still doesn't keep it out of a landfill. Unless you can use it in such a way that it eliminates a purchase of something else that will end up in a landfill, this simple truth is of no comfort! Wish I had better news for you.
