  • In this 4th segment of the timeline of Newfoundland history, we continue with a look at the Newfoundland Railway (or, as she was affectionately called, "the Newfie Bullet"), the logging camps that provided pulp wood for two new paper mills (complete with a great interview with ex-logging camp worker, Patrick Mulrooney!), interviews and insight into the mining operations at Buchans (lead and zinc) and St. Lawrence (fluorspar), plus attempts to improve the lives of fishermen with the start of a Fishermen's Protective Union.
After you've watched this, see the final installment, Part 5 of the timeline of Newfoundland history.

what a shame. my granfather john chynne was a contractor for bowaters, buy a contract build a camp and cook house hire about 30 men and work dawn to dark. my dad worked for him. pulling logs with horse then later tractor. hard work. another granfather died walking to a ship to go sealing. newfie is beautiful to look at but a hard place to survive.
