  • One of the more challenging scenarios when working as a group exercise instructor is taking over an existing class. This is often met with frustration and opposition when it should be a fun and exciting time for the fitness instructor. How can we act more professionally to win over upset members and allow you to implement the class routine you had planned out? In this episode of the KIPS Podcast, host Tyler Valencia, Ph.D. (c), shares stories from his time teaching group fitness and ties them to ways we can address the intricacies of taking over an existing group fitness class.
As fitness professionals, we have all had to build trust with our clients. Building trust allows us to implement our scheduled class plan and new exercises to benefit the class participants. But how do we do that? Part of that is opening up to our class and allowing them to see our personalities as a fitness instructor, and the other is being willing to learn about what they deem as “good” exercises. Learning about the prior class can provide insight into what the class enjoyed and help you strategize how to move forward.
Let’s hear your response to the podcast question from this episode - What’s a time you experienced this, and how did you overcome it?
