I've always preferred The Weeknd's original releases over his newer stuff. I still feel The Trilogy is the best stuff he's ever released, from the sound, to the lyrics. But to stay relevant in mainstream music, you do indeed need to adapt to survive.

This the weeknd i miss!..Im more of fan of old weeknd.. the trilogy, kissland. beauty behind the madness, his new shit is too poppy, mainstream. It still good and I like it but it not touching his earlier work for me personally, back then it was more raw, deep, dark, honest, vulnerable, unorthodox, different, he stood out more to me. He was saying shit that men be really feeling, but don't be expressing it. His words and lyrics were really hittin', you related to it, you felt it. He was going against the grain, not with it.
