Wasn’t that long ago that $60,000 cdn would get you something to squash a midlife crisis, not an around town grocery hauler. 🫤

I had a US 2019 Atlas SEL Premium with every option you could get. My opinion of the vehicle was 180 degrees from the general motor press. Lot's of complaints about plastic and ride quality. However, I didn't mind the plastic because of great fit and finish, and I thought the ride was very good. It's a really great road tripping car, except for fuel mileage (they REALLY need a hybrid powertrain). The Atlas allowed me to finally have my dream of owning a luxury vehicle with all the high tech and convenience features, even though it's not considered a luxury vehicle. My wife's Audi Q5 Premium Plus cost just as much and had way less features, and didn't have that much less hard plastic. The Q5 is quieter and rides better even though it's way smaller, but that still didn't make me unhappy with the Atlas. I LOVED that vehicle, and when the lease came to an end I considered buying it. But two things kept me from doing so. 1) potential reliability problems. You mentioned it doesn't have a stellar rating, and there are a lot of negative comments in owner forums. It was perfect in the 3 years I had it, but I was worried about long term; 2) my short-of-stature wife could not see left hand cross traffic because the outside mirror completely blocked her view. A deal breaker that we unintentionally overlooked when we test drove it. Had we been paying closer attention, we wouldn't have gotten the vehicle. In 3 years of ownership, she drove it exactly once, and declared it undriveable for her. The designers' sample groups weren't diverse enough, apparently. Lastly, your VW dealer won't gouge you with a $10k markup like your local Hyundai or Kia dealer. I was not willing to support a markup solely based on dealer greediness (this was before COVID) just to be one of the cool kids

Andrea! First of all, given what you're wearing, I'm disappointed that they didn't send a black one. Also, if you want more plastic its a four letter word - FORD.

I have a Volkswagen atlas 2021. My wife had a deer in 2023 May and the autobody shop has been unable to source a hood and bumper in seven months and Volkswagen cannot tell us when they are going to manufacture a hood and bumper for the for seeable future. This has left us with a car payment and insurance but no car to drive I would not buy a Volkswagen atlas or any Volkswagen for that matter because they are not manufacturing parts to repair their cars.

Do you think VW will put out a PHEV Atlas or even PHEV Atlas Cross Sport in 1.5 years when they do the facelift? I would love a plug in hybrid for the gas savings!!

Liked the look, liked the roominess, hated driving it. Very floaty, drove bigger than it is…felt like I was driving a parade float.

3 thousand for an oil leak and 1700 for a water pump blown up

It seems everyone in my neck of the woods drives an Atlas! Interesting comment on how a viewer had a Telluride (my top pick so far) and switched to an Atlas. Makes me think again! 🤔

I have a 2018 VW Atlas Execline in that yellow colour that Zack really loves!! Your family review actually confirmed my choice! This car has been absolutely fantastic for me. It has been quite reliable and any issues that I had were covered by an extended warranty that I purchased. This car actually saved my life and my passenger's as it was involved in a multi car accident 7 months after I bought it. The insurance company chose to repair it vs. writing it off because there weren't too many on the road when the accident happened. The only replacement parts available at the time were VW parts only. The repaired car feels just like it did when I bought it. German engineering!!

I enjoy watching the UA-cam car reviewers and Motormouth is definitely one of the better ones. I like that Zach and Andrea review mainstream vehicles and generally emphasize the practical. On this Video, I am a bit more with Zach on the hard plastics. If it's in a spot you aren't going to touch 90% of the time when you're in the vehicle who cares what it feels like. I imagine the plastic keeps the weight and costs down.

Great review guys! We bought this exact spec 15 months ago and love it. If you need to haul the family around, go camping, skiing or take additional passengers, this does it all. Even when it is fully loaded you don’t really notice the extra weight. The suspension is very soft and compliant. We did end up going back for the roof bars and roof box for additional space when we are fully loaded for the slopes which do add an additional $1k to the budget. Overall very impressed with the purchase (apart from the fuel economy which isn’t great)

The third row sold us on the 2021.5 Atlas SEL with captains chairs. We need to put adults back there regularly and it’s great. Smooth, comfortable, and quiet are how I would describe the Atlas. We have 13k miles on ours and have taken it in once for the scheduled oil change (where the did a recall update). Most underrated feature is the headlights. They are bright and illuminate corners as you take them. Would buy one again.
