    Good man Gavin, very well explained. We need a whole new agricultural organisation built from the ground up that will represent us correctly. 👍

      Cheers adrian.. yea can't agree more just needs to be a more common sense approach I feel from all sides just can't keep going the way it is

    Very well said Gavin. Points well made. Very true. We're very close to being totally fxxxed if things continue as is. Irish government is ignorant, blind and deaf to the importance of our farming families and their role in keeping this Island afloat. I commend your words and bravery to give your opinion. Wish there were more men like you!!! Very well said that man. 👏.

    Agree with what youre saying here. And while I agree that Mr. Ryan is a nightmare, Fine Gael signed us up to these stringent requirements and gave Ryan the environment portfolio. Just remember that we would be in the same boat regardless of the Green Party.
    Re the cost of living. Sow a few rows of potatoes for yourselves. You are in a lucky position to have land and the ability to frow food. I'm 32 living in Louth and have been able to grow enough potstoes for 8 months of the year fairly easily. Also grow plenty other veg. Could get you a few videos for UA-cam too!

      Yea been looking up how to grow veg but it's the keeping and preserving it afterwards I want to learn first I always say it we would be in awful trouble there was a sudden problem with supermarkets shops etc

      @@CanningfarmsFreezer is your friend here. I've bags and bags of tomato sauce made last summer in the freezer still. Onions, garlic, squash, potatoes all last over winter in the shed. And the likes of leeks, cabbage, cauliflower will stay standing in the ground over winter.

    Well spoken in this video. Clear and coherent.
    Unfortunately, a lot of Irish farming organisations, including Macra Na Feirme, are way too cosy with the Irish establishment. They're happy to attend conferences on climate change, nod & listen, and not utter a word of protest.
    They simply aren't assertive enough and are therefore poor representatives / defenders of Irish farming.

    I would broadly agree your various points of view on the dreadful situations we are experiencing at the present time. I'm in England and it does seem that our situation, for the time being, is more clear following decisions having been made in government about some paths for the foreseeable future.
    The current situation and looking forward for Welsh agriculture though is horrific and much more based along some of the lines you have outlined.

      That's my point if we import from other countries just because it may be cheaper etc then we have no say over that animals welfare or quality of meat

    Have a look into holistic management by the Savory institute.
    I’m farmers biggest supporter but the agricultural practices on Irish farm’s arent in anyway Green or environmentally sustainable.

      I would agree in that things need to improve and that yes farming has to change in some aspects to keep up with the changing climate etc but if we keep going the way we are where farmers are forces to be more intensive to make a living that will cause even more problems we need to be paid fairly for the product produced that would mean stocking levels etc are never to high

    Carbon scientist are ya...I love how the farmers start quoting how much more environmentally friendly we are compared to other countries...maybe if we stopped trying to get thousands of gallons of milk from 50 acres of land on wet West of Ireland land, then maybe the lakes could breathe and flourish..

    • @Canningfarms
      @Canningfarms  8 місяців тому

      No I have never said I'm a climate expert.. farming should be done at optimum levels and not at max stocking rates but if farmers don't get paid enough for that then it gets more intensive to survive that's where the problem is for both beef and dairy. Yes I agree that alot has to improve and change but we are alot more environmentally focused here that alot of other agricultural sectors in other countries. In areas such as my own farm in high risk areas we need to take action we here have a 50m buffer zone between the land and the river.. no animal is allowed into that it is left alone to grow wild. This has reduced the risk of run off etc here as well levels of fertiliser and slurry in feilds along the river are cut again to try and stop pollution

    • @stonemad4197
      @stonemad4197 8 місяців тому +1

      Sorry I was replying to someone else when I said climate expert...but we get paid for leaving buffer zones and planting trees and other various activities through acres and also now through the single farm payment...I don't think the paperwork is that bad for these schemes..
      Why should a farmer with 50 acres be able to make a living wage on the farm..maybe off farm job is needed rather than polluting everything in sight to make money

    We feed the world with 1/3 of the carbon. If I give you a plant with 9 billion people on it, what is the first thing you have to do ,feed all the people WE DO with help from the lorry drivers. No one will die if you don't go to Spain

      I would agree with the point that over stocking leads to problems farming needs to be at optimum levels not max but people are forced to to make a living it all comes back to getting a fair price from processors and end client so that less is needed to make a living.. I also think that the government have really missed a trick in that every farmer has a shed these should have solar panels to supply the grid etc

      Such a stupid comment..Leo should be arrested..the dairy farmers that have polluted our lakes and rivers for years should be arrested..and then they want us beef farmers to take their boney ass under feed calves and try and fatten them..by the way I don't like Leo either
