- In preparation for Winter Storm Gail, bus reassignments were done to get articulated buses off of the road, as these are prone to jackknifing in the snow. As a result, many bus types are seen running on lines they don't usually run on. Enjoy!

Ah I see a few of the Staten Island Nova Buses and Orion’s managed to escape Staten Island lol.
There no nova or orion’s on the island anymore there been none since 2017
There are Nova Bus LFS’s and Orion VII 3G on the island my guy.
@@PlatinumTC Buses in SI operate those, I've been to SI a couple of times before.
@@PlatinumTC since I'm a Staten Islander i can confirm that there are NovaBus LFS, Orion 7 3rd Gens.
There are more Nova Bus LFS’s then Orion VII 3G’s on SI.
These unusual buses from different bus stations are doing their part to make sure, that no bus will never let customers be stranded during this Winter snowstorm Gail pandemic.
Being a bus driver myself and watching all these LF buses with chains but growing up in The Bronx. I never seen a RTS bus getting stuck. I work for a Utah base bus company. Only our MCI D4500 and Ski buses have deployable chains while our 40ft buses gets a more agressive front and rear tires.

Despite the loans, artics always find a way on a route...

The only artics that are allowed out during the snow are the XE60s, all the other artics can still run before the snow but once it starts snowing they gotta go back to the depot
@@joefade786 No artics should be allowed. XE60s can jackknife just like the other artics.
@@Bklynkid52 the XE60s have all wheel drive, they do perfectly fine in the snow. Literally 3 of them were out during this storm and nothing happened
@@joefade786 Well, all wheel drive lessens the chances of spin outs. They don’t prevent them completely.

Won’t the chains wear down on the dry pavement?
They most certainly will. The maintenance Dept should know better than to send busses out with chains on dry pavement. That’s the reason studded tires are not allowed in most jurisdictions.
Imagine having to hear that siren everyday
Using chains on dry pavement damages the pavement over time. Doing in 20f degree weather is worse. The worst is if you throw a chain and it gets caught on the axle.
It's funny... I thought chains were outlawed on New York City streets decades ago.

Do New York buses evade passengers who use the service without paying? I ask, therefore, I am from Brazil. Here, in big cities, buses have turnstiles and until recently, in my city, there were collectors inside the bus. Even so, some rascals descend through the front door without paying. Does NY exist or have there been turnstiles on buses? Are there currently people who circumvent the system?
There are no turnstiles on buses. Rather, there is a farebox on the front of the bus where people must dip a MetroCard. However, some folks, specifically at busier stops, usually bled through the back doors on buses on local stops. Select Bus Service has people walk on the bus without getting the tickets at the sidewalk MetroCard or coin Machines.
With the installation of OMNY, there are now readers at front or back doors, but only rear door boarding is allowed on Select Bus routes.
To answer your question, I have seen people/kids not paying the fare and almost all the time, the bus driver does not care.
