Thanks for sharing! Great entertainment for people like me who are kind of stuck in a still locked-down Europe! The count went negative pretty fast in both shoes, and it showed, as the dealer made a lot of hands. You had some interesting situations this time as well. At 22:04 your husband made accidently the right play: basic strategy says to double a 9 vs 3, but when the count was this negative, hitting was the right play. When he split the last 6 and received an ace, he should have doubled it, which you pointed out, and basic strategy agrees with this. Whats interesting is that a similar situation presents itself at 32:37, when you have A5 vs 3, and you elected to double. This is however wrong, and theres a big difference between A6 and A5 doubles, allow me to explain: Its a common notion that the bigger ace you have, the better doubling will work against a "bust"-card. This has a two-sided purpose: when you double with a big ace like A6 and A7, chances are about 30% you will catch a 10, which makes your hand pat (either 17 or 18). When you double with A5 a 10 is a terrible card for you, since you will be stuck with 16. The other side is that if you double with a small Ace, lets say A2, you can catch a small card, for example a 3, and then you would like to hit again, since youre freerolling (your hand is still soft, this could have happened if you caught an ace). This is not the case with A6 and A7. When you receive the next card with this hand, you would not like to hit again, in other words, you either improve with a small card: you can get a ten, which makes your hand pat, or you can catch a bad card (like a 7), which makes your hand stiff. In either case you would not like to hit again. It was also interesting to note the discussion regarding 11 vs A at 25:40. You claimed it was one of the most misplayed hands in blackjack, which I think is an unfair statement. You guys are correct, doubling down is the optimal play in 6D, H17. However, in a 6D, S17 game, the optimal play is to hit. This has to do with the subtle detail that the dealer is slightly more likely to bust in H17, since he has to keep hitting if he draws a 6. Theoreticians have calculated the expected value of the various plays of all possible combinations, most notably Stanford Wong, in "Professional Blackjack". He gives the EV for doubling 11 vs Ace = 0.124, while hitting produces 0.109. This means that if you double you will, on average, win 0.124 x your unit size. So in your husband's case, the bet was $50 x 0.124 = $6.2. That means he will win $6.2 dollars every time he executes this play with a $50 bet out there (this is how you have to look upon your decisions in blackjack). How much EV will he lose if he hits? Well, thats 0.109 x $50= $5.45. The difference in EV will be $6.2 - $5.45 = 75 cents. You see how minuscule the difference is? There are risk-averse reasons to refrain from doubling in that spot, since hitting reduce variance, notably prefered for people with tighter bankrolls. Anyway, enjoyed the video, keep'em coming!
You are crazy good! I wish I could pull out those stats like that. Amazing! I am always eager to learn and for sure know that I don't know it all. I found the book on Amazon, btw. I see he has some others as well. I am adding them to my Kindle wish list right now to start after I finish the one I am currently reading. @@CasinoKelly Hello again Kelly If you are reading "Blackjack Bluebook II" by Renzey I suppose that viewer is me ;) Im glad you are already studying it. However, do not read Wong's "Professional Blackjack" yet. Its crowded with appendix numbers, and is quite frankly, boring to read. That book is the next step when you are learning how to count the hi-lo system. There are easier systems for novice card counters, like A/10 front count or the KISS count, which Renzey introduces in his book. If you're going to play online, be aware of the rules (some of them have terrible rules like no DAS, and no peek on the dealers 10 and Ace upcards), the slow pace of the game, and the horrifying penetration level (usually 50%, which is a no win-zone, even for skilled card counters).

Hello I enjoy the video. I am a perfect basic strategy player, which means i play the mathematically perfect way. I have been a winning player the 15-20 years and I play very disciplined way. So just for your information- that means you double A6- versus 4, double 9 versus 3 (not 2), just hit 11 versus Ace, Dont double A5 versus 3. To be a long term winner you have clean up your game. I would recommend not play games that dealer hits soft 17. that makes the game much worse for the player. In my home state of Pennsylvania they have statewide rules the casinos that help players like say soft 17, late surrender, etc, etc.
@@CasinoKelly Without that rule you can still clean up your basic strategy like I mentioned - for your information- that means you double A6- versus 4, double 9 versus 3 (not 2), just hit 11 versus Ace, Dont double A5 versus 3.

Also every day I go there I have $30 in food vouchers. Also on Sundays they have gifts that i can just stop and not gamble. For example last week I got a $25 gas gift card for Sunoco or $25 gift card to Wegman's. Or they give out items - like a brand new toaster oven or whatever they have that Sunday. They also have invitations to other events like blackjack tournaments for free. Right before COVID I finished 3rd place in a $20K blackjack tournament, which was invitation and I won $1000 and the entry was free. I also have a caesar's rewards property 25 minutes from my house and I get similar valued offers there as well. Wow....that's a tough run. Our last trip to Wynn, on a double deck blackjack table, dealer had 4 blackjack in a row! How does that even happen!? It was like we were being punked. We just walked off after that 4th time. Even the dealer was in disbelief.
Tough couple of shoes. If the dealer/ casino shuffles less than 4 times per deck when preparing a new shoe, typically the shoe will stay the same. Also, instead of going from 1 to 2 hands or vice versa, look for an opportunity to not take that hit you usually do or double down when you normally wouldn’t. Play around with the deck. It’s not the dealer, it’s the shoe. Maybe 1 card will turn it around instead of the two by adding a bet. Just my ✌🏼 cents on my experience dealing the cards. Good luck 🍀
