I did not sew them, I left them as is. But you can hem if you are worried about fraying.

How do you make the warmers when you don't have stripes on your socks??

Its the same, you just don't have the stripes as a guide. Cut the toes off the socks, cut a small slit for your thumb, and then cut the length for how long you want them to be.
