This was a great video! There is so much that I don’t understand yet about Obsidian…I only jumped in a few weeks ago. Obviously, it can be overwhelming. There are so many terms and concepts thrown around in all of the UA-cam videos, that it can be difficult to know where to start in terms of a deeper dive beyond the basics. It quickly becomes very complex. I love the challenge of that, but at times my head just spins!

Yes, Obsidian is super powerful and feature rich... once you are over the initial learning curve I promise it feels very intuitive and simple.

Watched again, and am still super excited about the possibilities your two plugins offer! I hope you continue them both. Realistically, based on my current adoption pace, you are at least 6 months ahead of me, but I love the challenge 😊

I liked the working session angle to this video. Obsidian UI looks really nice, but when you demo the ExcaliBrain interface, it REALLY jumps out to me. I am biased to it because all the years of using the Brain, but I think it would connect to MY brain even if I had not. I really need to carve out time to work Excalidraw into my workflow. I sketch a lot for work, but so far, the main options are good old paper and pencil (then scanned) or OneNote. Thanks to all your work, I/we have another option -- that is integrated with Obsidian.

Good ideas that show some advantages of the 3rd brain, I mean Excalibrain, after Obsidian being the 2nd brain.😆 I didn't have prior experiences with The Brain, though I saw s.th. about it online. Anyway, inside Obsidian this is a very different thing because I can combine Obsidian with all its other plugins and the features of Excalibrain. The more I learn the more overwhelming becomes the Obsidian ecosystem. Your software as well as your videos are really fascinating. A wanna be nerd like also needs such precise explaination on how to use the feature to manage their data. One question: Will you continue to support the Excalidraw The Brain script or will it become obsolete. Eager to see what is coming up next.

The brain script will become obsolete. Eventually I will publish ExcaliBrain to Community Plugins for easier access.

Both Excalibrain and excalidraw need a right click context menu where you can invert the colors of every picture to make it dark or light mode compatible.
Also there should be a function to make colors darker or lighter so that the colors dont look weird when theyre inverted

Yes - Excalidraw dark mode is not ideal. Unfortunately this is not something I can address in the plugin... this needs to be addressed in the Excalidraw Package - which in turn is unlikely to happen, since the use case for dark mode is very different in the Excaldraw virtual whiteboard compared to in Obsidian.
You will find scripts in the Excalidraw Script Library to lighten and darken colors and there is a script to invert colors. Also you can change the color palette - so that instead of the built-in dark mode you use your own dark color palette. I've not used Excalidraw dark mode since for almost a year now. I rather use dark palettes with accurate colors. This video explains: ua-cam.com/video/fypDth_-8q0/v-deo.html

Thank you very much, very interesting!
When do you think it is more aproppriate to use your method instead of just inserting an image into an empty md note and giving it all the same properties?

    • @VisualPKM

using an .md file to add metadata to your image is also a good approach. also for many use cases following a string file naming convention for your image file is probably sufficient. I like to use Excalidraw for this purpose for a couple of reasons:
      - I often like to add some text, notes, etc. to the image, and this I can only achieve with Excalidraw
      - When I include the image in my notes, I like the way excalidraw images are embedded. if I embed a markdown file with the metadata it will clutter the document into which I am embedding the image to
      - I am planning to add automated image scanning feature to Excalidraw. Then excalidraw will extract the text automatically and save it to the Excalidraw file as metadata. This will improve findability of the images in my vault.

@@VisualPKM Thank you for your comprehensive answer! It makes more sense to me now.
The automated image scanning feature is a very cool idea! Thank you. We will wait for it.

It would be great if you could select a few parent/children/siblings/friends and convert them to an diagram, edit the diagram, if more related notes are added the diagram automatically updates and this diagram is always shown like that in excalibrain
