Also, this recording first broadcast July 1 1990 on P2. There's also a radio recording conducted by Stig Eckerberg of the first two movements at least from 1941.
Oh, here's a movement list from the site Swedish Musical Heritage -- 1. Allegro moderato, ma energico 2. Andante 3. Poco Allegro 4. Allegro ma non troppo
Superficially I suppose this is close to Svendsen's 1st Symphony, although Svendson has more of a melodic gift. That, however is a small point. This Symphony has much to offer repeated listening and is a very good piece.
Svendsen's first is also more than thirty years earlier, and clearly constructed on a Schumann-esque template. Totally different work. If one wants to look for influences, Beckman's symphony sounds remarkably Tchaikovskian to me at times, which is quite rare for a Scandinavian work of the time.
Excellent recording and performance of a neglected worthy work. Should be issued on CD.
Piacevole sinfonia ,con motivi anche tratti probabilmente dal folklore locale.
Buona anche la performance .
Un grazie a Bom x l 'upload.
Gorgeous composition, an absolute gem. I love it. Many thanks for uploading. Can you upload more of Beckman's compositions?
Good!

What a great work, reminds me a little of Stenhamar I guess.

Never heard it before. 1st 2 mvts. bore, lst 2 got my attention.
Grade A melodic lyricism in a symphony of otherwise conventional form. Lovely!
According to the German national library, published as his opus 6, btw.
Thanks, Eric.
