Sorry to hear about the breakage, it was pretty clear how excited you were. I had a counter experience today that feels worth sharing. I took my DST Hulk out on my porch for some action photography and a big gust of wind sent him diving off the handrail. It's a good 7 foot plunge to hard ground underneath. He survived totally intact with a minor scuff on his left heel and triceps so I snagged a couple photos of that and tagged DST in them to commend their build quality. They may not move like a Mafex, but they WILL survive basic posing and a while lot more.
omg the sound effect when it broke had me pissing my pants. I don't know why but that whole segment was literally one of the funniest things I have ever seen on UA-cam. when you were going to attempt articulating the legs and just quit. Tears.
That's the reason why I don't buy Mafex, the quality sucks! They look good, but feels fragile. It's like when you buy a bootleg figure from Ebay, that looks exactly like the official figure but feels so wrong once you touch it. I honestly cant understand why such a brand of expensive figures uses cheap plastic! I remember stepping on a toy biz figure and it didn't broke. The materials were better then.
this happened to me with a mafex justice league batman. they have huge problems with the waist pegs. good thing I didn't pay full price for it, but it single handedly caused me to stay clear of mafex figures. for the money they should be damn near indestructible

My Aquaman was fine except for the hands: the holes were too small in my opinion. It made it hard (and scary) to change his hands and my Black Manta was the exact opposite where all the joints felt too stiff. Had to boil him first before I was certain that I could start posing him. Also saw your IG post. I'm glad that the recommended fix worked for you 😊
i don't know if you are a customizer, or how good you are with a Dremel. however, the best fix would be to drill into both parts with a thin drill bit, insert a metal rod with super glue. does the trick.
Yeah, kind of looks like it was broken during QC proccess and glued together fast so that it could be sold ASAP. I thought Mafex QC got better over the years.
sorry that happened to you. I've got the Mafex Wonder Woman and honestly she didn't impress me much for the expensive price. I'm hoping that my Mezco Dr. Fate is worth the money and according to your review and every other review I've seen for him I can't wait for BBTS to put him in my POL. I think I'll stick with the cheaper Mcfarlane figures. they are more solid and way cheaper and have survived multiple shelf dives from about 7 feet up.
Dang. I was waiting for that Manta to go in stock at BBTS, but it went from pre-order to out of stock. I was hella mad, but now I guess it's a mixed blessing for me. 🤷🏾♂️
I must have the best luck with Mafex. I have both these figures and my Aquaman is not broken (although I am very nervous about swapping hands and worried about breaking the trident) and my Black Manta isn't loose (the hips do not go outward, though). That stinks that your copies were so bad. I'm sure you can tighten those joints, but you shouldn't have to.
While in general Mafex figures have been okay in terms of the joints when first getting them, over time they deteriorate. They can also be quite delicate.

Amazing Yamaguchi figures are also delicate even though they can get into crazy poses. I've heard sen-ti-nel figures are pretty good in general though, so maybe we'll just have to hope they put out more figures from movie properties?
Depends on the figures. I have the Mafex Mile Morales from Into the Spiderverse and it’s an incredibly well built figure. On the other hand, I also have Mafex BvS Batman and SS Joker and both are SUPER fragile. My advice is to watch/read multiple reviews before purchasing any Mafex figure and see if any of the reviewers mention pieces breaking
It sucks that Aquaman broke, damn hopefuly they have extra parts or something, but they will def take care of you. Last year, the right elbow to my Mezco Batman broke and they let me keep it while sending a new one! Last month my Peter B Parker broke at ... the right elbow and I emailed them only to get a reply saying keep it, we'll send a new one.
That's exactly what their customer service is like: Excellent! At this point I will likely just keep the one i have because I fixed it. There is a follow up vid to this one that shows how. It may be helpful to you in the future if you can't get a replacement due to lack of stock.
I collect MAFEX and from my experience they have pretty bad quality for their price point. But I keep buying because the figures look and articulate great
That's the thing. Mafex know what iconic design of characters collectors want and are the best in 6 inch scale for sculpt and accuracy. But there QC has improved. I have 42 Mafex figs and only 4 have qc issues. But for the price you pay it can be heartbreaking for them to break.
This seems to be the reccuring issue with imports. They retail at a Much higher price but we don't see that money going into the quality. The QC is all over the place.

I got all but the Superman and Wonder Woman from both BVS and JL And apart from Cyborgs metal parts coming off due to their glue losing it's effectiveness, they have been fine. My Clone Trooper, Xenomorph, blue Batman Hush and comic Spider-man are my main culprits, qc wise, out 42 Mafex figs I own. Both Dark Knight Returns Batmans and a few other recent releases are much improved and some of the best all-round though.
Your review was great, however Mafex is one of the most aesthetically pleasing companies with the worst engineering …. Their qc issues are entrenched into their mode and themes of production ….go get them Brad
Here from Japan, I had one defect problem with my Mafex Harleyquinn before. Sent serial numbers with pictures prooving the defect to them, they've sent replaceable parts to fix my figure. Not sure Medicom toys have US office, but if there is, recommend to try. Their customer service was great.

It's such a shame to see this. I've been excited seeing MAFEX dig itself out of the hole of QC issues they were infamous for a few years ago. I maintain that the paint, sculpt, and articulation is exactly what I'd want out of a figure! But speaking of my experience with the MAFEX Cyclops, and now this, I can safely say it just isn't worth the incredibly high price they demand. My Cyclops is nice, but his joints are a tad loose and his interchangeable visor had sealed itself together, preventing me from being able to make use of one of the advertised features. These issues may not damn say, a 20 dollar Marvel Legends figure. I minor annoyance at best. But for a $100 price tag you expect better, and seeing how horribly this Aquaman is put together makes me leery of purchasing the new Captain Americas they're putting out for IW and Endgame. It wouldn't be so bad if I knew what I was getting into, but it seems MAFEX's brand motto is inconsistency.

Is it unfortunate what happened? yes, but if the figure didnt break, you were enjoying it and on the way to very likely recommend it. Black Manta on the other hand, I can see saying "be cautious" since a floppy figure is more than likely a build issue, where the joints weren't properly toleranced. I havent seen other reviews f these figures but will after this to see if the BM floppiness is a running issue, and you should have done the same before saying "stay away".
Your reasoning is flawed here. For a product review such as this, it is exactly that; a review of one's own experience with a product. How is he expected to provide a recommendation on an item that, out of the box, snapped after little to no resistance. The QC is part of the experience with a figure; regardless of the potential that figure may have had, it means nothing if it shatters out of the box. While I agree he may have been able to corroborate his experience to provide a more accurate picture of this issue, a $100+ figure shouldn't be having ANY issues like this out of the box, period. And he shouldn't be expected to give a positive review after spending $100 on said product, having it shipped to him, waiting for months, and then receiving defective product.

He is reviewing the copy he has, not every figure made by MAFEX. If this is a mass issue with the figure its one thing, but no product is 100% QC free no matter the $$$. Brad can warn his viewers that hey, buyer beware, but then you check out other reviews and if they have no issues then it is not a widespread issue and someone who is interested can go ahead an buy it to their own discretion. I saw another review of the BM figure, they had as he described loose but tight ankles, but the figure was not floppy as the one Brad had. Again, im not opposed to his non recommendation, im oppose to generalizations based on personal experiences. One person can say "This guy was mean to me, therefore he is a jerk" then another will say "He was cool with me so they are Ok on my book" He"s also broken other figures in the past. You can take out both parts of the joint, glue them and order 3d print of that joint. It's not expensive and printed joint will works perfectly
I actually ended up drilling out the ball and stump and superglued a tiny nail inside to reconnect his torso. Worked like a charm.
Man he was super happy and then....boom torso breaks.

I had this happen to my G.I. Joe Classified Scarlett. Arm snapped at the elbow just making easy movements. Hasbro replaced the figure for free.
That's crazy Scarlett broke. Those figures are made from more robust kid friendly plastics. At least they replaced it though! Woo!
Looks like Mafex forgot all the progress they've made in QC over the past 5 years with these releases... what a shame.

I got mafex shazam for the face mold and it also broke on me so I will not be making any future mafex purchases, they feel cheap and not worth it

My aquaman is loose as a goose, my manta though is solid, love both of them but I'm also gonna be very careful

@@digimonFTW22456 it's not flawed, it's logical. He was liking everything about the figure up to the point that it broke. Which is unfortunate, but personal. He is reviewing the copy he has, not every figure made by MAFEX. If this is a mass issue with the figure its one thing, but no product is 100% QC free no matter the $$$. Brad can warn his viewers that hey, buyer beware, but then you check out other reviews and if they have no issues then it is not a widespread issue and someone who is interested can go ahead an buy it to their own discretion. I saw another review of the BM figure, they had as he described loose but tight ankles, but the figure was not floppy as the one Brad had. Again, im not opposed to his non recommendation, im oppose to generalizations based on personal experiences. One person can say "This guy was mean to me, therefore he is a jerk" then another will say "He was cool with me so they are Ok on my book"
He"s also broken other figures in the past. So he has a history.

Mcfarlane DC Multiverse figures is killing it at only 20$. The sculpt, paint and detail is surpurb with a decent amount of articulation.
