Well known for many years as versatile and distinctive jazz trombonist (working with artists as diverse as Kenny Baker, Sir John Dankworth, Liam Noble and Bryan Ferry), Malcolm’s singing has also been much admired by audience and fellow musicians alike; not only for his distinctive vocal tone and phrasing, but his skilful, exciting and story-telling approach to scat singing. Initially inspired by instrumental-vocalists like Chet Baker and Jack Teagarden, Malcolm’s style is also influenced by great crooners such as Bing Crosby and Tony Bennett and jazz singers including Anita O’Day and Eddie Jefferson. Malcolm has featured recently as vocalist at Kansas Smitty’s, The Vortex, and Riverhouse Barn Jazz.
