In a thousand of years people will all be robots and have no emotion and empathy. Look at the Cyberspace generation. they're already 1/4 Robot. In a thousand years everyone will have the same affect as a Mark Zuckerberg, staring into space and never blinking.
Every note of this song, every drum beat every bass note every piano key that is struck every slide of the bottle neck on the guitar strings every piece of the interviews and every sound out of her mouth, ruthlessly plucks at my heart strings and makes me think of family, my happiest moments and all of my saddest moments all at the same time..... Pink Floyd were a wonderful thing and it's a privilege to see someone experience them for the first time.
Your reaction wasn't over the top in any way. I get emotional every time I hear it (and I've heard this song a million times..since the mid 1970s). To me, it makes me wonder if my mom, dad and brother felt this way as they were dying. Struggling at first and then succumbing to the inevitable as they saw glory. I truly believe that people who reacts to this song as you did have true empathy and the world needs more of that, no doubt.
I am going through your back catalog. Look, I am 59 years old. I first heard this Album when I was 18. EVERY time (and I calculate that I have listened to Dark Side over 200 times in my life all the way through) and many one off listens to individual songs. The Great Gig in the sky has 100% of the time I have listened to it intently always brings the tears for me. I was so happy to see that this affected you in the way it did. It means you feel what they are doing. Don't be afraid to share the tears with us, we know they are coming and on their way because you have a heart. We want to share all of it with you. It's not a shame to cry at such a masterpiece. I turned 30 this year and I still cry when listening to Pink Floyd just because the touch my soul with every single track they produced. I'm so proud of my dad for introducing me to Pink Floyd!
I've probably listened to this album 15,000 times since 1973 and I've Never been able to discern the line "if you can hear this whispering you are dying" before. This piece of work just keeps getting better and better...Thanks!
I love watching so many female singers cover this song on UA-cam - it’s like the ultimate test - the gold standard. When your soul leaves your body, you know you did it right.
I was in my first year of college in the early 70's and had not yet heard of Pink Floyd. It was a perfect spring day in the Midwest and the windows of the dorm were open. Someone down the hall put on Great Gig in the Sky - loud. It absolutely blew me away!
This is a song when your on your death bed & begin to daydream flying thru the clouds.. All the stages of grief & emotion that you feel from inside,anger..denial,then the acceptance....no words needed...
This vocal performance is the very definition of “tour de force”, so unique that I doubt anyone will ever come near it’s intensity. It was unplanned and un rehearsed. She said she had a beer before the recording session that helped out. Wow, what kind of beer was that ??
Saw an interview with her once where she said she was sure she blew it because the band was just not saying anything and sort of giving her the funny eye so she left and went like oh well. Turns out the band was utterly speechless at what she'd just laid down for them.
The sheer agony and grief in this woman's voice and finally.........resignation. I have been on this emotional rollacoaster with this Pink Flyod song. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit but I have shed a few tears to this particular song and I'm a dude.
I’m 67, male and have been listening to this since the album was released. It still affects me the same way, so you are far from alone. I think, if it doesn’t have that effect, you are not listening to it properly.
Never be embarrassed to feel the deep emotions that this song inspires because it is validation of your humanity. I'm 67 as well and this is the greatest vocal performance that I have ever heard. Clare Torry has never gotten the recognition that she deserves for her performance on this recording imho.
First heard this song when I was 15. Loved it. Now, almost 50 years later, it still brings a tear to my eye ... every time. The pure, raw, emotion is so powerful. There is a deep connection, somehow, somewhere.. .
I seen Pink Floyd in Seattle in 1974, and they played this entire album. Best concert I witnessed in my life. Though 17 at the time, I wept when they played this song. 67 now, and I still get emotional when I hear Claire vocalize this piece. Beautiful song, beautiful voice...
🎶🎵 Few can manage the ethereal qualities of progressive rock that Pink Floyd brings to the music world. They're definitely not "Another Brick in the Wall"... 😉 Thank you for your openness and honesty. As always, take care amd God Bless...
@@MorenikejiTaiwo Hi, I recommend a band for you! Look up on UA-cam Dr Hook - they have amazing songs!! You will love them!! Also take care of yourself!! We will beat the coronavirus!!!
I am 51 and watching people listen to this for the first time, feels like the first time for me. Seeing the reaction and emotions in your eyes brings back feelings and emotions I had 45 years ago. My parents played it and I didn't understand or appreciate it. Just a timeless masterpiece.
I love seeing the younger generation listening the music I grew up with and appreciating it. This music is from the heart and anyone that takes the time to listen to it will be touched. Good job Morenikeji.
This song never fails to bring me to tears. It's like it encapsulates all of the pain, suffering and death of humanity and as the "wailing" stops, death has occurred, peace has finally been achieved. I like to describe listening to a lot of Pink Floyd's music like being on a ship in an absolutely horrible storm at night. No lights, no navigation, no engines, no rudder. All hope seems lost, you accept your fate and are ready to be taken by the abyss, but then you see the faint light of a lonely lighthouse. You are not alone! That's what listening to Pink Floyd feels like. Standing at the edge of the cliff, staring at the blackness, smiling lightly and turning around. It's the beauty in sadness and melancholy. And no other band captures these moments so well!
Don't sweat the emotional reaction, I can't listen to this song in front of people, it's so powerful I tear up every time, and I have been listening to it for decades. It's just as good every time. Pink Floyd's claim to fame is how they grab your emotions and take them for a ride.
Thank you for your honest reaction to this classic song. Dark Side of the Moon is a concept album that deals with life, being human and how the pressure on the modern living impact on our mental health. Side 1 of the album deals with the passage of life to death. The album starts with Speak to Me/Breathe (A child hearing the world from inside their mother's womb, then being born and told that their life will be what they make it, but don't forget to care). It ends with The Great Gig in the Sky which explores the stages of grief associated with death and dying. I have listened to this album and this song for over thirty years but it has only been since my father passed away last year that I could not reach the end of this track without shedding a tear or two myself. Pink Floyd are masters at creating soundscapes that make you think, make you understand, make you reflect and make you feel. I look forward to your continued journey through Pink Floyd's extensive catalogue of masterpieces.
Bob Geldof said of the Floyd - they set out to be an emotional notion. Never been to a concert like theirs ever- grown people with tears in their eyes- quite extraordinary
Yours is the best reaction to this song. You are one of the few that understand how important the lyrics are and you understood it was about death. You didn't say a word but reacted with emotions as I do when I hear this song. The man at the beginning says what we all say before we are confronted with death, lies to help us live another day. But the singer sings the truth from beginning to end. You and I are among the few that get that message... I'm not sure if everyone does... believe me I weep a bit everytime I hear this too.
I'm 46 years old, and I have absolutely no shame in saying that even after hearing this song for all of my life I still feel my emotions well up inside me when I hear that woman's voice sing out and ring the very vault of the heavens. Wonderful reaction.
You made the total _pro_ decision by listening to ‘Time’ and ‘The Great Gig in The Sky’ together. They absolutely belong together. They're like two halves of a whole. 💜
This album was in the Billboard charts for 736 weeks from 1973 to 1988. That's all that needs to be said really except this, crying to this song is normal. It's a powerful work of art and crying is the correct response.

Although this is 1 year old, and you've probably already heard it, your reaction is that of almost anyone that listens to this haunting masterpiece for the first time. The context of the piece accompanied by Clare Torrys magnificent vocal interpretation of giving into death makes this one of the most important musical compositions of our time.
You quoted the book of John, I love it! So the crazy thing about this song is, they just hired the lady to sing it, and when she asked how it goes, they said they didn't know because she hadn't sung it yet. So she made it up on the spot, and that was the first (and last) take!
@@vainestlamb5917 ...AND...she listened to the music several times that they had written, so she knew where the music was going...there is a very good article written about it...
This song always makes me tear up.. not for those I've lost but for those I'm GOING to lose, and the fact that, in the end, there's nothing I can do to stop it.. there's so much pain, sadness, and even anger that comes through at times within this song.. so many emotions that I don't think I'll be ready to truly comprehend when times are at their darkest.
She walked among us once, leaving no doubt of her existence or divinity. Then she went away and left us with nothing but her voice. Yours was the appropriate response, by the way.
It's ok I have been listening to this song since it first came out I am 50 now and it still makes me cry . Her voice just makes you feel the song in your heart .
Just let the tears flow, Morenikeji; it's therapeutic. Clare Torry's voice is so fantastic on this cut. You can find the story behind her studio performance on the internet. The backing vocalists on some live concert videos give Clare a good run for her money, but cannot match the spontaneous nature of the DSotM version. Yes, my eyes are flooded right now, too.
I'll never forget seeing The Dark Side of The Moon concert live in 1975, this song had the entire coliseum full of teenagers in tears. And every second of the rest was completely mind blowing!! Fink Floyd were the 1st band to have their own quadraphonic system and ya really could here the music travel around the room, so frea'kn cool!!!
As an Introvert (INFJ), and 62 years of age, the emotions become very intense as you rise in self awareness and awaken to the essence of who you are. It's okay. Just welcome the feelings. Let them caress you, move you in the way you allow. Remember, you are not your emotions. The feelings come from the connection between Yin and Yang, light and dark, positive and negative. You are handling all this energy in the way it's necessary and you always have the free will to choose whatever you feel is best. Because you feel, sense things so deeply, you also possess such physical beauty as well. I have seen very few women with such a balance of symmetry in your face. It is true. I think this occurs when there is an equality in the hemispheres of the brain. It is normal to struggle with your left brain and right. We are a complicated life form. But don't worry. Your soul knows what to do. 😊🙏❤🌹
I've heard this song hundreds of times and this is the first time I've realized it had any lyrics. And I never heard the word "dying" and never associated the song with death at all. To me it was an emotionally expressive lyrical masterpiece evocative of all phases of life.
Nothing wrong with any of your tears, proves you are human with empathy. Keep feeling dont give in to the societal schizm of not having feelings. Their is something so human about relating to others pain, happiness. We cry to both these things. Your a beautiful soul if your soul hears this.
I am a Empath and seeing you break into tears set me off.. So lovely seeing your reaction to this great song from a great album..
We introverts will one day take over the world, but we'd probably just stay in for a nice quiet evening.
Pink Floyd are aliens sent here to show us humans how music is supposed to sound
Well said. Such a great band, timeless music. I understand that not everybody gets it, I feel sad for them.
Either that or time travelers
You are best Man !
Aliens.... Well, they come from the UK?

That is a classic. There is so much emotion in it , and that's what makes music awesome.

It’s such a great feeling watching people reacting to something same way that you react, even in the same moments of this track
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your face said it all. You're not alone. Best wishes
Don´t worry about tears, after +40 years listening to Pink Floyd I still get tears in the corner of my eyes
I wouldn’t say you’re being sensitive. This song tears grown men apart hearing it 100 times later
I have been a Sub for about 2 years. I am always happy to see a new reaction from you EVERY time!
It's not a shame to cry at such a masterpiece. I turned 30 this year and I still cry when listening to Pink Floyd just because the touch my soul with every single track they produced. I'm so proud of my dad for introducing me to Pink Floyd!
I've heard this song hundreds of times and still get the same feeling! Beautiful song, beautiful lady!
I don’t know anyone that doesn’t feel this track , it’s painfully beautiful ,that was a lovely reaction
It took me about 15 listens to finally like this song. Up until then, I either skipped it or put my attention somewhere else when it came on.
This song has no lyrics but a monologue in the beginning and it's the most moving thing on earth, especially after hearing time
I've probably listened to this album 15,000 times since 1973 and I've Never been able to discern the line "if you can hear this whispering you are dying" before. This piece of work just keeps getting better and better...Thanks!
I love watching so many female singers cover this song on UA-cam - it’s like the ultimate test - the gold standard. When your soul leaves your body, you know you did it right.
This song was a big reason the album was on the charts for almost 10 years.
Longer than that lol

Back when music was an emotional investment. Too bad those days are gone. You seem like a good kid. Best to you.
Another genuine, beautiful reaction--

This vocal performance is the very definition of “tour de force”, so unique that I doubt anyone will ever come near it’s intensity. It was unplanned and un rehearsed. She said she had a beer before the recording session that helped out. Wow, what kind of beer was that ??
Interesting - didn't know about the beer
@@jpatherton2415 Gilmour gave her a Heinekin
Saw an interview with her once where she said she was sure she blew it because the band was just not saying anything and sort of giving her the funny eye so she left and went like oh well. Turns out the band was utterly speechless at what she'd just laid down for them.
I'll have what she's having
I always thought this was just another great song... then I got older and now I react like this, too.
Hits me everytime
Amen brother

I look forward to your continued journey through Pink Floyd's extensive catalogue of masterpieces.
except when the child is aborted it it no longer hears
Abortion does not take place at times when the child can actually already hear in the civilized world. Medical circumstances aside.

yes thats it.. cool
Thank you...and for giving this original with Clare Torry on vocals the emotion I'm sure she hoped to evoke.
This album was in the Billboard charts for 736 weeks from 1973 to 1988. That's all that needs to be said really except this, crying to this song is normal. It's a powerful work of art and crying is the correct response.
This song impacts everyone the same way. Love and be loved. But most of all………LOVE

Although this is 1 year old, and you've probably already heard it, your reaction is that of almost anyone that listens to this haunting masterpiece for the first time.
Your reaction is spot on! This song speaks to your soul. I can't remember the times i didn't cry listening to it
I'll never forget seeing The Dark Side of The Moon concert live in 1975, this song had the entire coliseum full of teenagers in tears. And every second of the rest was completely mind blowing!! Fink Floyd were the 1st band to have their own quadraphonic system and ya really could here the music travel around the room, so frea'kn cool!!!
No other song can tell so much without words. And you, being a very sensitive woman, could tell that.
Thank you so much 🙏❤️
@@MorenikejiTaiwo It's an honour. Thank you my dear for your very moving responses. Don't ever feel you can't show your emotions. 🙏😊😘💕🌹

Kudos also to Alan Parsons for engineering a great album. So much of the song’s impact is achieved through a deep connection between musicians and engineer.
If you listen with headphones you can hear (Alan Parsons?) talking to her. From what I understand she did this having never heard it before.
I've listened to SO many songs in my lifetime & none of them seem to be quite on the level of this one. I deeply consider The Great Gig in the Sky to be the best song of all time. Still waiting on a song to challenge it.
