I spend all my free time in the backcountry and wilderness. Native animals and predators don't scare me. It's the unscrupulous characters you sometimes encounter that do. Why 10mm is always with me. My dog is also always there. He is my alarm system..
Thank you, I’ve always lived with woods around the homes I’ve lived in, trail cameras all over my property, cameras on the house 360 degrees, big German Shepard mixed with golden retriever, an alarm system & a lot of guns. I find the woods pretty relaxing, but when I go I take my 80 pound German Shepard & at least a Glock with 2-3 extra magazines of ammo. Preferably I’m taking a shotgun or rifle with me & the Glock as my sidearm, but always at least a handgun, knives & pepper spray always as well. I don’t leave my house with out at least one pocket knife, pepper spray & a handgun with an extra magazine at least ever
I never hike or camp alone anymore, one, getting older I worry about an injury but mostly, its dealing with shady people in isolation that I just don't want to deal with.
I missed the live feed but watched and enjoyed the story. My wife is from New York and I took her camping to Sequoia for her first time. We took a hike in Crescent Meadow and had seen three bears. It was getting late and I wanted to finish the hike but after seeing three bears she wanted to get back before it got dark. We plan on going next year and I will let you know how it goes.
New sub here :) Obviously this dude never heard of David Paulides and his books and YT videos, Missing 411, about people who go missing in National Forests!!! I will NEVER EVER GO HIKING!!! Oh man, I should've listened to this in the daytime!!!!! Scary!!!!
Drats - I missed the livestream! 😥 At least i can watch it now. What a terrifying story! Great that MrBallen got that recognition. 💕 Jamel_AKA_Jamal I SORT of agree with what MrBallen said about taking risks in life, but the movie actually left me thinking "if only..." Christopher McCandless took bold risks, but he went unprepared, with no experience, and uneducated about what it would take to survive out there, and with no backup plan. At the very least, he needed SEVERAL back-up plans for how to extract himself from that situation. The Alaskan wilderness is unforgiving. I saw the movie as tragic. Thanks for the reminder about the Zeppelin song. I saw it yesterday, on my way to something else. Then i forgot to watch it.
They weren’t chasing him. They were flanking him with multiple people. He was running towards them by being flushed out by the females and hunted by the men. My buddy went through very similar situation. He had a gun though. So he stopped 1 of the females and called wildlife on his satellite phone and they had a family of 23 people, all inbred. The female told the officials they needed food. 1 man doesn’t have enough food for 23 people but a person could feed 23 people if you know what I mean. Never found her 22 other family members…
He told the story to police. The police took down his story. They then searched his backpack and found out it was stuffed full of magic mushrooms. Today, Matt resides at the California mental hospital where he tells the same story to all of the other patients
Ohhhhhh you gotta try hiking!!!!! In the last 9 months I've hiked over 800 miles just after work. I love rattlesnakes, mountain lions, lynx, deer, all of nature! You have to try it!!!! If you want a hiking partner, let me know!!!!
I’ve seen this story multiple times by mrballen and even after the first time yeah he was targeted by a group of feral people but I keep watching this because it is just scary by how the great mrballen tells this man’s story. This man was clearly being hunted and I believe there was nothing he could do unless he learned kung fu by Bruce Lee over night lol.
He told the story to police. The police took down his story. They then searched his backpack and found out it was stuffed full of magic mushrooms. Today, Matt resides at the California mental hospital where he tells the same story to all of the other patients 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry...this movie left me feeling extremely sad. It was a tragic, unnecessary loss of life. He actually made an error and ate a poisonous plant/mushroom. One of the saddest stories I've ever heard. He knew he was dying and because he had no method of contact, no-one knew where he was and he was too weak to find his way to get help. Terrible.
I go camping at the beach! I can't go too long without a shower so I guess it's called glamping! No wildlife, no craziness, minutes from civilization! Just nope!
Couldn't watch the live stream, but I appreciate you, love both of your reaction channels 😂❤. Prayers for you and your family, thank you for being good humans!! 😊
No flipping way I'm hiking for days on end by myself. I won't even pull my trash can to the curb after dark. There are lots of crazy people who live in the woods.

@@scotthill1600 You are why, I hope a meteor kills the earth. Did it occur to your tiny Neanderthal brain, that, Im giving the content creator valuable feedback? When they are looking at algorithm data, and trying to figure out why a video did poorly. ITS NOT NECESSARILY THEIR FAULT. YT ads, are in fact LOCKING UP, YT. So, it's not a matter of a 30 second ad, it's that the entire application has a fault, and the viewer needs to exit YT, then try to open again, find the video again, then try to resume, where it seized... only to be immediately hit by a damned commercial again. Androids have been having issues running YT for about 6 months.
My husband, son and I live in the middle of a forest, none of us have ever ventured into it. We hear and sometimes see the coyotes, wolves, bobcats, and there's snakes. There was even a bear sighting a couple of weeks ago in our area. The tree behind Mr. Ballen looks like a man with his legs in the air and hid head buried in the ground. Sounds like Matt's head ain't screwed on right, bless his little brain. If it were me, the first time I saw those people on the boulder I would have turned around and went back the same way I came.
I go hiking and camping on my property and other places out on the Olympic peninsula in Washington State. 400 acres I share with Elk, free range cattle, wolves, bears, Coyotes, cougars, wolverines, bobcats, etc. I make sure to bring a few implements just in case someone or something gets too gutsy, but what I worry about most is desperate people who will do anything to get you and or your provisions.
Chase your own dreams and what you are comfortable with. Some people are comfortable with being uncomfortable. Don't chase other peoples dreams, stay in your own lane.
I'll tell you how they kept finding him, they could smell him. His scent would be strong to people living in the woods away from others. As an elk hunter...I could smell them 100s of feet away.

I need to prepare myself to go into town or the city (nightmare). I rarely hike with more than a hiking stick. Cougar, bear, and wolves are not any worry to me, it is the odd human that scares me.
I have already had a cobra bite, gila monster bite, swam with alligators, had wild African lions brush against me through the tent material, faced down crocodiles and hippos at the water's edge. Animals respond to respect. People are unpredictable.
Did they really terrorize him or did his fear get the better of him. Also maybe they were keeping an eye on him in case he needed help. I would think if they wanted to harm him they could have many times. Also a friend of mine his mom says they r related to the McCandless guy the movie was about. Don't no if it's true but she has some family thats last name is McCandless.

Take a handgun for the love of god man
Hiking/camping in the wilderness is probably best done with a partner or even a group.
Definitely a group.
At Least a partner. Both armed to some point. Side arm, fixed blade knife, bear spray...have something to defend yourself.
Safety in numbers
Handgun, pepper & bear spray & multiple knives, multiple extra magazines of ammo. If you can’t stand the extra weight you don’t need to be there
and a big dog
My definition of camping involves a secure hotel. 🤩
Into the wild is an inspiration but also more importantly a cautionary tale
Ain't no song as spooky as this subject. This topic is a surprise for me to hear you cover. Good job Jamel thanks.
