This game actually had an end? I thought it was just an endless loop. Guess I was just never good enough to get that far :( This was in my top 4 C64 games, along with Beach Head 2, Crossroads, and 50 Mission Crush.
This felt like quite a revolutionary game as a kid. Landing on the runway, getting refueled, getting repaired damages, but having to risk an enemy bomber bombing you if you stayed too long so you had to maybe take off again before all damage was repaired. And I remember when I found out I could fly really low to hit artillery with the machine gun, but risk hitting stuff on the ground by doing so.
This was one of my favorite games. If people at this time could understand how much code this was needed, they would not understand games nowadays. Meaning, I know what it takes on 1/0 level.
Lol I was gonna say cheats were activated. I played this game mercilessly years ago and could never get that far. I noticed the damage warning icons disappeared shortly after hits. But so cool to see the ending!!
If that game is also made for the NES and Sega Master System I thought that might happen even when Broderbund took over Synapse Software. Even if Robert Polin did that same game for NES and Sega Master System, people back then might get that kind of game for their systems.
My first videogame I played, and In the printerport on the back of the C64, there was a plug inn card with more memory and reset button :). The game was on a audio cassette and that didnt have a long life
If memory serves the targets with Xs and the glowing blue planes need to be destroyed. I don't recall how many you need to activate the city section. It might be in the manual.
Hello! I've been asking every Commodore 64 player I find this question-do you remember the old math game First Men on the Moon? I used to love playing that (with the insects from the old sci-fi story and math!) Do you have it?
If you press F7 as an Easter Egg it changes as follows Copyright 1983 Synapse Software becomes Music composed and conducted by Stephen C. Biggs Copyright 1983 Synsoft becomes Music programmed by Stephen C. Biggs
EASTER EGG: When you press F1, F3, F5 or F7 during the Blue Max intro the Copyright 1983 Synsoft or Copyright 1983 Synapse Software changes to Music composed and conducted by Stephen C Biggs or Music programmed by Stephen C. Biggs.
Wow that's scary cuz I was already looking at it when you posted this comment, I'm just about to try it and hopefully do the longplay, I'll let you know bud. Actually good job I checked the forums as I'm used to getting your pokes on here as in youtube :-) Just finished a longplay recording of Zybex on the atari 800xl thanks to a genius on the forums who changed the code of the game to give me endless lives, I've waited 26yrs to play this game all the way through as there was never any cheats for it, I'm really chuffed :-D
Kamilz Hey bud, 2 new challenges for C64,...can you provide pokes for infinite lives and infinite moral for PLATOON across all levels, and infinite lives across all levels for AFTERBURNER?! ;-) I'll let you know my Pac-land findings tomoz buddy.
Oh those sweet care-free days back in the 80's when you could fire up the old C64 and play some "Blue Max".
Watched my Winter edition of Blue Max??
@Jetset906 right on! I still remember this music on the title screen.
In my case my Atari800XL and then mi Amiga 1000... I miss this game.
I intentionally destroyed my own hanger on many occasions.
right after 2 hour load time
One of my favorite games, I remeber that you could fly low enough to shoot the tanks/AA. So many memories.
You could fly under the bridge if you got low enough and didnt move.
That was actually one of the best games. SO simple yet so much fun.
This game actually had an end? I thought it was just an endless loop. Guess I was just never good enough to get that far :(
This was in my top 4 C64 games, along with Beach Head 2, Crossroads, and 50 Mission Crush.
There's also a Winter edition of this on my channel :-)
I did too lol

One of the best C64 games!
oh, what a fine timetravel. we played this on a big tube screen in 1985. Thanks for upload!
Glad you enjoyed it, take a look at the Winter edition of this game, It's on this channel.
I remember playing this for HOURS as a kid. Great game!
Check out the WINTER EDITION on my channel ;-)
Thanks for the memories Zeusdaz ! Used to love that game.
Reminds me of River Raid (Atari) but in isometric view
Have you checked out the Winter version?! It's on my channel :-)
Totally forgot about this game...thanks!
My favourite game when I was kid 🥰
This was one of my favourite C64 game > EVER!
7:17 - yikes! So good to see this - I recall the controls took quite some time to master. Well played.
There's a special winter edition of this on this channel too, I quite like it.
Anyone else ever skip or miss a landing and have to go around again to run out of fuel and just coast it in?! Good stuff
Nah, I just crashed :-D
those sound effects like the plane engine was nice!
When I was a kid I made it to the "city" a couple of times, frustrating to see how close I was to actually make it.
The "Copyright 1983 Synsoft" title changes to "Music composed and conducted by Stephen C Biggs" if done correctly
big fun..blown away first time i played it..i flew under the bridge..that was the shit lol
When I was a kid I always thought that the buildings you were bombing looked like hospitals. That said, I bombed them anyway...
This was one of my favorite games. If people at this time could understand how much code this was needed, they would not understand games nowadays. Meaning, I know what it takes on 1/0 level.

I had this game when I was a little kid on C64. I never did beat it. I would always get bombed by a plane while refueling.
I never knew there was an ending, you have to get a certain distance and bomb everything without dying to get to the city stage,...I think.
If that game is also made for the NES and Sega Master System I thought that might happen even when Broderbund took over Synapse Software. Even if Robert Polin did that same game for NES and Sega Master System, people back then might get that kind of game for their systems.
My childhood Dream!!! ❤❤❤
My first videogame I played, and In the printerport on the back of the C64, there was a plug inn card with more memory and reset button :). The game was on a audio cassette and that didnt have a long life
(Datassette sound:) "KRZZZRZRRZRGRGHGTTRZTRZRZRRRZZZRRRZZZZZZZZZZZZZRTRTRZTRTZRZZZZ..."
Pretty good game, Zaxxon in WW I settings :)
Yeah It's certainly popular amongst the older C64 shooter fans.
If memory serves the targets with Xs and the glowing blue planes need to be destroyed. I don't recall how many you need to activate the city section. It might be in the manual.
Why did all damages are gone? I remember they were repaired only after having landed, refueled and reloaded bombs.
Cheats are on mate, just wanted to show all the game.
Have you seen the Winter edition on my channel?!
Zeusdaz - The Unemulated Retro Game Channel You could have managed to make all the game without cheats, you play quite good :) (no I haven't seen yet)
When you bomb your own airport building, a strange bug occurs where the ground gets pink and you fly under the trees.
You could use the gun at low altitude to kill enemy units on the ground!
Hello! I've been asking every Commodore 64 player I find this question-do you remember the old math game First Men on the Moon? I used to love playing that (with the insects from the old sci-fi story and math!) Do you have it?
LOAD"$",8,1 ; ) The good old days !
If you press F7 as an Easter Egg it changes as follows
Copyright 1983 Synapse Software becomes Music composed and conducted by Stephen C. Biggs
Copyright 1983 Synsoft becomes Music programmed by Stephen C. Biggs
Waited forever for this to load up on tape drive. And I would totally do strafing runs! Who else??!
Try the winter edition :-)
EASTER EGG: When you press F1, F3, F5 or F7 during the Blue Max intro the Copyright 1983 Synsoft or Copyright 1983 Synapse Software changes to Music composed and conducted by Stephen C Biggs or Music programmed by Stephen C. Biggs.
Damn, I was so close to the end as a kid.
This looks fun
Why does the damage disappear from the plane?
Anyone knows what the big Letters mean? We always thought P is for "Plane" an L for "Landing". But the rest?
W wind
Would be great to have this on Evercade's c64 collection 2 !
Check the Winter edition of this game :-)
Drop a bomb on the runway while taking off and get awarded: Kamikaze trainee Class 1
Good game, but is it better than River Raid?
Yes, also check the "Winter Edition" of this game.
It looks like the level in Wings.
A true classic !
i have shoot the tanks and cannons simply with the machine gun.. How?? I simply flight low ..
If I remember I think you have to hit joystick down and fire at same time to release bombs,..I think.
Does this game ever end?
Watch the end ;-)
Good gameplay, I didn't notice any cheats. You probably didn't use any.
Yeah I did matey, but I didn't really need them, they were a back-up just in case I got hit ;-)
ZEUSDAZ - THE UNEMULATED RETRO GAME CHANNEL OK. Btw, did you see my Pacland poke on the forum ?
