    The true key to the norwegian success in sports and especially winter sports is that our population as a whole lives and breaths sports. Success in sports is in many ways the single most important thing for our nation, and we take great pride in our success.
    We also spend a lot of money on sports facilities (not everywhere, but a lot of places), and our cross country team in particularly has a budget that makes the rest of the world(in the same sport) look like they are amateur teams.
    And now, the single most important thing, we are a wealthy nation. This is important because it means that the vast majority of our population has the funds and time to allow their children to pursue sports. And with the government allowing special ways to save and pay taxes for the money made from sports we make sure that our athletes have a relatively good chance of being able to live on the winnings and earnings from their sport after their career ends.

      Your a wealthy, homogenous (I.e. all white) psuedo socialist country that doesn't have to spend those high tax dollars on poor immigrants because you don't let anyone in. That sounds harsh. I'm not knocking it.

      @@benhaney5843 You should read up a bit before you start spreading that infowars "knowledge". We absolutely accept immigrants here. In fact Norway has gone from basically a 100 percent homogenous society to almost 20% having immigrant backround in one generation. And the socialist accusation is just ridiculous. If you spent 5 minutes googling you would learn that we are not a socialist country.

    Brown Cheese is something you have to learn to like. If you try it for the first time there's a good chance you are gonna spit it out. Think olives or coffee, it's a very strong taste that your brain thinks might be poison and makes you want to reject it. Look at him when he said that's amazing, he spit that out as soon as he went off camera.

      Exquisite flavor! It's caramelized whey [not cheese], what's not to like? Ask the kids, our parents resorted to this as poor mans candy. It does not resemble normal cheese in any way, it's more like an easily breakable clay that can be molded even after it's made. Few foreigners like it, but such it is for any country's special meals. It is probably the crash between the sour and sweet, and like other people have different wines, so is our our brown cheeses. He might've gotten one of the more special ones; though the lighter color, the easier for newbies. Very good in sauces, a nice start.
      Best thing? I don't officially eat it any more as I've gone vegan, but I take a nibble here and there if there are leftovers at parties. Cravings are small, but they can never vanish once you like it. Other worthwhile spreads to taste are "prim" [buttery soft brown cheese, less flavory], "gomme" which is just too incredible to describe, but it is derived from boiled down fat milk and kefir. I also think maybe spiced herring and other variants of it are favoured especially here, certainly [was] good and something we persisted on since we learned how to use fishing nets. A dish as norwegian as can be to test out are "rømmegrøt" [even got its own eng. wiki, a sour cream porridge], served with sugar, ground cinnamon, butter on top and cured meat besides on a paper thin, slightly sweet crisp-bread! Time to create a vegan brand, because a viking spirit craves these eccentric tastes that's embedded in our genes to match the great nature.

      Brown Cheese from goat milk is very strong and even I don't like it, but the variant from milk (Fløtemysost) is very light in taste, and would probably remind You of some sort of caramel. Brown cheese in cocoa and brown sause is very awesome! Must try! A fun fact: Some cheeses are marked with G35, where the G is informing you that the cheese is made from goat milk and 35 is the % of fat added to the cheese. Norwegian standard goat brown cheese (Grudbrandsdalsost).

    It's all about the Gjetost!!!
    I'm a second generation American-Norwegian and have only had the chance to visit my Norwegian side of the family once. It was so awesome, and kind of weird! When I was there, I felt like I was literally at home, like visiting my grandparent's home when I was a kid. My family in Norway, the other people I met, all had similar interests as me, similar senses of humor, so welcoming and inviting. They even drank as much coffee as I drink! We took a trip to the mountains and they brought a thermos of coffee... that's exactly my style! And everyone looked just like me (go figure). What I also find crazy is that I love the cold and love exercising in the cold. My body seems to do much better in it, and it does poorly in the hot summers (just like my Norwegian relatives). Fish is a staple of my diet just because I've found my body needs it for optimum performance (I compete in cycling). And I only discovered this through lots of experimenting... I guess it's just literally in my DNA.
    Anyway, this 2018 winter Olympics have been so much fun to watch, to cheer on the Norwegians and teach my boys about their heritage. I also can't stop thinking about my Norwegian family and contacted them again after too many years without contact. Thank you Olympics and Norwegian athletes for bringing us together again!

    It's the government. It's the government that makes Norway the most decorated country in the winter sports. You see, Norway is the only country in the world with state sponsored athletic sports. And here's a little fun story. Norway has a very egalitarian culture. Everybody is supposed to be the same. This is reflected in the school system as well. Everybody receives the same quality of education. No exceptions. There are no elite schools in Norway. That is..... except for one. The only elite school that exist in Norway, which sole purpose is to foster and educate the best of the best, the elite, is the college of physical education or the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. This school gathers the top sports talents from all over the country and gives them everything they need to become top notch competitors in the most prestigious competitions of the world. All of the Norwegian medal winners through out history has attended this school. Here they receive a highly professional support system to foster their sports talent, and it's all paid for by the Norwegian government.

      "Only country in the world with state sponsored athletic sport". You really should do some research before writing stuff and presenting it as facts. You don't have to go further than Sweden to see that you are wrong. And the further you go, the more you will see that you are wrong. Det kryr av land der staten sponser og støtter idrett økonomisk!

    • @Dovenpeis
      @Dovenpeis 6 років тому +3

      The Swedish government doesn't sponsor elite athletes. The Swedish elite athletes are on their own, like in any other country except for North-Korea, and has to find private sponsorship in order to stand a chance. After the fall of communism, Norway is pretty much alone in the world with state sponsoring elite athletes.

    • @ZesTaDesigns

      Uhhhh no? Pretty much all great western nations sponsor their elite athleates. USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Germany etc.

    • @Dovenpeis
      @Dovenpeis 6 років тому +5

      Norway has private sponsorship because the elite athletes can choose. For the top athletes, it's a political question, but they can choose. Still, Norway is the only country in the world who sponsor's their elite athletes with state sponsorship.

    • @juliebonnevie-svendsen3112
      @juliebonnevie-svendsen3112 6 років тому

      All the different foundations within sports rely on private sponsors. that is why popular sports like cross country, biathlon etc and the ones with much TV- coverage have a lot of money to provide for their top athletes, but others like rowing, and other summers sports have very little and many athletes have to rely on funding from parents and loans to pay for the costs of becoming the best. The state is funding some to the "breddeidrett" and events, but the most important factor is the effort of dedicated parent and volunteers that arranges trainings and competitions and build up sporting clubs.

      I don't believe anyone posts anything on the internet, without believing that the post will be noticed or recognized by someone. Clearly, a lot of Norwegian kids on the internet care, since they keep announcing to everyone else that they're Norwegian - as if that's something that's worthy of attention or acknowledgement.
