That looks really good, Del. I like the offset design quite well. I thought about how cheap the stock solution was, but mine is hidden under the bars, so I didn't care enough to fool with it. But with your clip-ons. your solution will shine (metaphorically, after a bit of weathering) as a centerpiece for your dash area. As I type this, I think maybe you have inspired me to add some Buffalo nickle conchos to my little cheap tin piece, since I used a buffalo nickle as the end of my choke knob. Yep, I believe you have inspired me to do just that!
I like the offset on the filler plate. Kind of reminds me of a rising sun, not that I'm ever up that early now that I'm retired.😁 Had me wondering how you were going to get a round peg in a square hole there for a minute but I knew if anyone could do that it would be Del. And make it look great too. When you add up all of these cool little details the total comes out being way more than the sum of its parts. Epic job again Del and Penny. Many thanks. God bless and be well. ❤👍👍
Hi Rick, thanks for your generous kind words, am glad you approve of the top plate, just a little something of a signature piece to, just like you say, set the bike apart and make it a little more than an accessory catalogue special!... Have a great weekend buddy, keep safe and stay in touch, D&Px
another great video brother!!! the custom piece on the headlight makes it a unique look 😎👌 bike is looking badass , I agree with the clip ons and also relocating the speedometer, it will be nice to see what you can come up with brother ! you are the best ! keep up the great work brother! stay safe guys cheers from new york 🎉🍺🍺🍺🍺
Thanks Renzo, glad you approve, just some little subtle signature accents to break up the colours and make it a bit more interesting!... Lots more cool stuff to come and, of course, more brass too! Have a great week both, take care and keep safe, D&Px
Aaaarghh - the offset rings hurt my OCD. I was shouting at my phone “Del - it’s off centre!!” 😂 But that’s my problem! I appreciate it’s an artistic expression thing. Loving the line of the bars/light shroud 👍🏻😎
Always love the little reminder to put the lathe chuck key back in its place before starting the lathe, but just to be on the safe side I built a key holder with a micro switch that breaks one leg of the lathe start button. Now I don't have to worry about forgetting because my lathe won't start without the key being put back where it belongs. Anyway the bike is looking amazing. You have inspired me, and I'm searching for a used sporty for a winter project. Already have my Wera socket set and some black latex gloves. I'm ready to go 😎
Your signature is on everything you do Del, every little detail in the things that you make is in there. All the bikes of the past all say Delboys garage. As I write this I am thinking of another UA-cam'er I have seen who now owns Damage. Your work lives on Del and will always will! Future classics.
Huh. I never would have guessed Sportster headlights hung down from those covers, I always thought they were purely a cosmetic thing. Quite fascinating. The little brass accents look a treat in the satin finish, and yes, the silhouette of the bars and that cover plate is downright perfect. A great lump of a speedo sticking up would seem awkward indeed!
I really like the offset brasswork, nice touch. And the headlight cap looks brilliant, I think I'd be tempted to use dome-headed cap screws to echo the curve of the cap itself. I'm looking at the clip-ons mounted in the classic cafe way, but wondered what they'd look like swapped over and facing up. I know, I know, I should switch my old brain off now and again. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work. 🤘
Looking good Del. Is that your bike? Ever consider a small digital speedo where you just mounted that brass plate? Don't know if its even possible, but it sure would keep things clean and custom. Take care Sir, stay well.
Hey Joe, I have thought about a higher tech solution with a digital unit, but I'm a great believer in displaying the genuine mileage, it's the integrity of the vehicle and all that, and I've an old fashioned love for an analogue speedo, haven't made a final decision yet, I just fitted a GPS speedo on my Hayabusa and it's a great solution for stripped front end... so I'll see what I can come up with! Have a great weekend Joe!
Those brass details definitely add a unique personal touch to the bike - and as I always say to people that "constructively criticise" my non-standard changes - "my bike - my rules!" Thanks again guys! x
Mike, isn't it funny how those who offer up the "what I'd do if it was me" usually either don't even own their own whatever they are criticizing or theirs is bone stock, or has a widget from the widget store, so they can be "original" just like everybody else who also shopped at the widget store :)
I kind of like the recess in the headlight mount for warning lights etc. maybe still use the brass piece as well? I was kind of winding back time as I was watching this… how long have you been in the new shop now? Time flies.
Hey buddy, would you believe it's been almost 18 months in this new shop and settling in nicely now, in some ways the old one was cosier, but that doesn't really mean anything in a garage environment, it just has to be practical! Have a great weekend and keep safe.
@@Moonfleet41 cool! Speaking of bars, the police brought my MIL home from jail last night. I thought we’d have at least one more day for ourselves. Oh well.
Hi Dell. You probably know. Roland Sands have a especial braket for the speedo for sportster in café racer style. It’s expensive but is cool. Thanks for your canal.
Thank you Mauricio, i did check out the RSD brackets, but it looks like they only make them for my early 2003 model, only much later models... but we have a few to choose from and i could still maybe make one myself possibly. Thank you for your support my friend.
Great video, both of you. The offset curls in that brass piece look great! As always, a bang up job of scripting, shooting, editing and overall production. Take care, Del and Penny - be well and ride safe!
Thank you mate, we really appreciate that you notice the production as well as the content, they're equal amounts of work as always, have a great weekend!
I like the brass insert Del, nice job and goes with other bits you've done. The lines of the front end and clip ons look sweet and am looking forward to seeing what you do for the speedo and if you go with what I'm thinking might work 👍😀
Man… suddenly the outcome is so fantastic just by putting one piece back on !! Absolutely amazing, so nice to look at, Del! Again , looking forward for the total result in the end , can’t wait
Fine work, Del. I’m trying to envision where else you could stick the speedo clock or even replace it with something that will help retain the lines you created with the headlamp bracket and drag bars. Maybe a quick shot with the tank in place would help.
Love the little customisation, and I appreciate the abstract approach. But that badge would trigger me, every time. 😂 Alas, it’s not my bike , so keep up the good work and I’m looking forward to the next personal touch. Solid choice to relocate the dial.
It may not be the look you are going for but Dakota Digital has a MCL-5000 that is 3-1/2 x 2" that you might be able to tuck in behind the bars or fit into where you just put the headlight switch plate and it does speed and replaces your light indicators and idiot lights if you want... Most of the housing options are dreadful but you might be able to justify getting some additional tooling to make your own out of brass...
It's wrong! Ok, I couldn't resist throwing that one in. Yes it's an evolving build. The instruments would look odd now on top. More thinking required. And that's half the fun. Peas and loaf brother ✌️❤️
Thanks brother, glad you approve, lots more to go yet, cutting some steel in the next one, may drag the welder out too! Have a great weekend there, D&Px
The way the bars flow with the headlamp cowl looks spot on. Must admit that offset semi-circles Brass insert would do my head in every time I looked at it..Thats just me. Each to their own its your build and its looking great Del.
Thanks buddy, I knew it'd be a talking point, it's that kind of thing that makes bikes more interesting, wouldn't it be boring if every bike fell within the rules!
Excellent video Del & Penny. The brass accents looks a treat mate. I love the look of that handle bar line, it would be a crime to ruin that front with a speedo up in the air. Penny and you have a great weekend and take care over there. Cheers
Thanks mate, i agree, im really gonna have to noogle out a solution to mount the speedo below that line.. but im sure ill come up with some thing. Have a great weekend too mate and take care.. D&Pxx

Great point Mike, it's easy to criticise when you don't have to commit to something!
A small digital speedo where you put that plate, instead of the plate would look good. Finding one the right size might be challenge though.
Sorry Del the offset brass insert would drive me crazy....otherwise good job!
No need to apologise for your opinion mate, looks are subjective!

Bikes Looking good mate 👍
Great video Del. Nicely done on the brass inset. Offset or centered doesn’t matter because it’s your motorcycle. Well done. Have an excellent weekend.
Thanks buddy 👍, glad you enjoyed it, just a little 'signature piece' to make it stand out!
Absolutely agree with the lovely curve across the headlight and bars.
It’s all coming together nicely now Del.
I'm a sportster fan, you're doing a great job that one,
Starting to look really good, love the look at the front now 👍
Thanks mate 👍, glad you approve!
I'd be worried that offset curls would mess with me mind and make me lean to the left!
... it might just do that yet lol only time will tell....
