Much better than the usual CD signal mirror video. Two thoughts: (1) you could touch on the risk of shading the mirror with your cap - I generally flip mine around when using a signal mirror. (2) There's a more accurate way to use a CD as a signal mirror. The beam from a flat mirror is extremely narrow - if you center your eye perfectly in the CD hole, center the shadow of the unreflective center ring on your fingers, and center the plane in there, it will work. However, since the angular subtense of the beam from a flat mirror is the angle subtended by Lincoln's head on a penny held at arms length, that's pretty challenging. What I did was to auger a small hole in the back of the CD with my penknife, look through that much smaller hole, catch the small shadow embedded in the reflected CD light on a fingertip, and flick that shadow over the target again and again. Far more precise. I've signaled succesfully myself at 11 miles that way, and taught a friend who subsequently signaled me at 22 miles that way. UA-cam won't let me post the links here, but my video of the 11-mile signal is on UA-cam as: "CD as signal mirror - 11.1 miles

This can be done in a 2 minute video. And how can you use it at night without light?
