PARIS TO LONDON via DFDS NIGHT FERRY and FLIXBUS

- Who in their right mind would want to travel on a bus between Paris and London when you could use Eurostar in a fraction of the time? 9 hours and 45 minutes of overnight travelling, customs and immigration at Calais and a smooth entry at Dover. It was actually a very interesting adventure although zero sleep was achieved. Flixbus mainly used the Eurotunnel route, but if you check the timetable, you will find a small number operate on the DFDS ferry between Calais and Dover, including the night ferry.

With many other vloggers all covering the same routes and services you deserve a lot of credit for coming up with less well known, and interesting subjects. Its a pleasant change to watch a video which rather than focusing on how many canapes you get in business class instead convey the cold, nearly empty, fluorescent lit ferry in the dead of night.
Amen. It does get a tad boring. Like the 1500 videos on the Elizabeth line. There’s only so many ways you can cover something.
Agreed! Most of them are pretty ungifted also.
Totally agree with you.
The things you do for our viewing pleasure Scott! And what a great video it was :) Hope you got a good rest after this one!
Your video are also very interesting Steve Marsh 👍
The two of you do travel for the common person.
DFDS have offered an all-inclusive meal voucher since the start of the pandemic. It's a very good and competitive touch to their product.
The flixbus I went on took a P&O ferry. *No meal voucher there.*
Travelling by bus is probably the cheapest option and you get a meal voucher. As you say, doing the journey by day makes it part of the adventure where you can take in the views
For your information. The ferries are all ex sea France. The food on them was always terrible. And the security at calais is necessary because of the clandestine passenger trying to get to the UK. Not only does the passengers get checked but the coach does too. They basically put a sniffer dog around the coach trained on human smells and check the interior of the coach including the toilet. For some reason dfds are always slower than p&o even though one of the ships used to be the fastest on the route.
Absolutely love these videos mate, thanks for all your hard work!
Can't believe how busy Paris is at midnight
Paris is always busy . It never sleeps. Sadly.
@@littlebigman5791 just like London
Have you thought about doing a Q&A video? Would love to hear about your tourism career in the past, favourite places visited, etc.
Hey Scott.. If you think that bus depot is bad, its pretty obvious you've never ridden a bus in the USA. Some of our bus depots make that one look absolutely gorgeous...
I was travelling back and forth between Paris and London and Antwerp and London for only £8 each way back in 2019, that's the only reason I found it worthwhile. The cost has increased by about 10x recently and unless they go back down I'll be flying into Europe from now on, although I still find them great for travelling around the mainland.
Why did the cost increase?
@@robertmcdonnell3117 brexit
Flights and Eurostar are too expensive now. Coach looking like the only way
Loving this channel!
Great to lie in my bed @ night & watch your video's, that was a wee bit different, thanks again Scott from me in Irvine ! 😁
Love your uploads, so informative and helpful keep up the great work
Love your vlogs Scott!
It sounds like the old Anderson bus station in Glasgow
i enjoyed it when I was a lad I did trips like that all the time great fun
I feel bad for you that the breakfast was cold!
Very helpful and interesting video thanks!
Best travel youtuber at the moment, always love your no nonsense videos! Next time your in London lmk and I’ll get you a pint!!!
Don’t think I’ll be doing that trip in a hurry, but another great video
"Your ferry for nothing, and your breakfast for free". Love it. We're clearly of the same generation PTE.
Great informative video! There’s one thing for sure, as far as I’m concerned, I’d avoid that particular mode of travel from the continent!
ENJOYED
2:04 driver asks passenger if he already labeled his suitcase and gives him a label and pen requiring only the first name to be written on the label. That already tells much about the organisation of these coaches.
Good job
Love your video's Scott
great vlog again scott what a trooper out on that back deck the ocd in me is on fire i need costs 😂
Looks like an utter nightmare! The things you do so we don't have to! I'd have spent the entire journey wishing I'd taken the Eurostar - under 3 hours end to end in comfort - no matter how much it cost!!
The downside of taking the ferry is you miss it and have to wait for another. It can often be some time.
I have taken the bus from London to Düsseldorf 4 times with the ferry. 3 times we was delayed and missed the ferry and I lost my connection from Düsseldorf.
Great video
I've often considered booking with Flixbus to get back to the UK. Well, I did once when I was in Prague. I was worried in case my Easyjet flight would be cancelled, and booked a ticket as a back up. As it happened I didn't need it. I'll bear them in mind for the future though. I didn't know they went on the ferry. I thought they always went through the Chunnel. I liked the meal voucher!
I think you've been lucky so far with the Flixbus trips in the UK. This seems more in line with the regular experience
There's a Flixbus locally in California: LAX, SFO, Palm Springs, and Riverside-San Bernardino.
subscribed to your channel, very nice content mate :)
Went to Paris via coach 7 years ago, one way was the tunnel the other the ferry (think it depends if you're travelling during the day/night)
We went on the tunnel on the day flixbus from Paris to London
Nice video
Really enjoyed the video. Sorry you had it a bit rough!!))
It looks pretty vile, thanks for the warts and all review. Correct, it may be a lot more pleasant during the day, I still think buses are the worst way of getting around though. Work hard at school kids, otherwise you may find yourself getting around in a bus when you grow up!😯
You're a brave man going to that dump, Paris, London in parts isn't far behind!
Been to plenty of Non touristy Places that aren't A Dump. Paris does have a big plus over London & The UK, It doesn't have Greggs bakeries.
Just discovered your channel, sort of thing I would love to do,64 yrs fit but female living I west cornwall takes miles just getting out of County, relly good videos Scott.
I didn’t catch how much the trip cost you, but there’s nothing about it that would tempt me to try this. Great video!
I did this trip and many trips to Antwerp and Bruges from London in 2019 and it cost me between £8 and £14 each way but looking at the app now its between £30-£100 so much better to fly unless they put the prices back down imo
@@brionyholmes8266 Yup, the prices are getting ridiculous!
@@brionyholmes8266 There's surge pricing like with Uber. 100 was the middle of the holiday season.
Great reporting mate. Not easy with camera equipment.
This is travel for real people. UA-cam is awash with people blagging priority lounges and club class (whilst racking up personal debt in their quest for fleeting fame). Well done.
Just as I was thinking 'that looks better than London Victoria Coach Station' you tell me the place is disgusting!
I used to use the coach/hovercraft/coach service to Paris a fair bit as a student in the 70s. We didn't go into a coach station back then - Hoverlloyd used to drop us off at the front of the Gare du Nord/Gare de l'Est (Quai d'Orsay later on also?). East Kent Road Car Co. coaches didn't actually board the hovercraft (though coaches were able to) so you had to remove and place luggage between the two coaches and the hovercraft. Otherwise it was a nice trip, cheap too - depart Victoria at about 0930, Ramsgate Hoverport about 1230, a 40 minute crossing to Calais, then boarding a French coach (with a coffee stop before joining the autoroute after Arras) arriving in Paris at about 1800.
Great video, I love your sense of adventure, how much did it cost?
I think when people watch vlogs like this, they also want to know about the state of the coach, how comfortable it was, what amenities there were on the coach etc. What times were available for picking up the coach in Paris, what the best times might be. Generally all information about the travel experience. You don't really give much information about anything. It would be great if you did this and then you might get more subscribers.
Leave my man alone, he’s just living his life and taking the time to film it for your viewing benefit. Don’t pretend like you cannot easily find this information with a quick google search…
@@Gabrielm624quick google search”’s tend to lead to videos like this
Forty years ago I did the same trip. That was then.
Great video, but how much did the trip cost?
I went to paris for the European cup final at the end of May and I couldn’t agree anymore about the bus staion
Bello
You want to try Regio Jet London - Prague bus
I enjoy these videos also. Is it me or does travel seem ever more difficult, even unpleasant?
I think you are right the journey used to be part of the fun of going on holiday now i dread it too stressful, vaccine cert, locator forms 😡.
I get the feeling they want it to be like that to dissuade you to travel
Covid has taken the fun out of travelling.
@@juliacoggins7292 I agree but the before that the ritual of getting through security and all that entails really gets to me shoes of belt of 😡
@@nudgenudgewinkwink3212 bloody rubbish anyway...
Bus journey times really don't imorove with flixbus ! 25 years ago i went by Eurolines from the dutch border to copenhagen , in 8 hours ! Nowadays, with flixbus it takes 11-12-13 hours ! ( Albeit at higher frequency..)
This journey.of 470km should be doable in 7-8 hours , rather than 10 you'd say...
Hello from Canada!! I laughed when you described the station as a toilet!! What made you decide to take the bus so late?
Hi Scott! How long does it take on a passport control? Did your bus arrive on time? :)
I've used Flixbus to Brussels and Paris, albeit a few years ago, and it was Eurotunnel being used. Wonder what changed.
Deserve a medal for doing that one .. makes Manchester Airport look a picnic
obviously prices change over time, but i'd like to see the price just a point of comparison to the amount of travel time you spend on each leg.
Would love to travel between the UK and Malta via long distance coaches, so long as Flixbus reopens the interflix tickets. And P&O Ferries was now trying to get agency workers from here in Malta with a Brexit loophole and that Maltese agency's staff is paid like €3.50/hour or something like that
I'd love there to be train to Malta via the channel tunnel but a couple of problems with that.
@@ajt22 easy train to paris then train to milan overnight then night train to scilly easy then ferry to malta
@@BIGV710 you know im actually tempted to try that
@@ajt22 do you know that you can buy a interrail pass for europe they are for everybody now and you just pay extra for sleeping cars
@@BIGV710 I just want to wait for covid restrictions to cool down, then I'm up for it.
Wow the whole thing looks like the layers of hell. Edit to add: I used to live in Paris, that place is probably up there with the norm for hygiene in 'le shitte de lumiere'
Another top video Scott. I've done loads of long distance bus trips as a youngster and they don't look as though they've got any easier. Is there a toilet on the Flixbus? Thanks again - you've got a niche on UA-cam from a vlog perspective.
How much did it cost ? good review
Cost please. Was there a toilet on the bus. Did it arrive on time. Do you have to wait outside in the rain at the terminal for the bus like you did? Thanks
There are toilets on the coaches but you would be better advised to use those at the ferry terminals or on the ferry itself.
Great vid and no surprise the Paris Bus station is not great. Though on a much smaller scale Manchester Chorlton Street Coach Station used to be dreadful till it was rebuilt about 18 years ago. Unless you are on a long ferry trip the food is appalling on most ferries. Their Amsterdam to Newcastle offering is much better.
Hi Scott, what was the actual cost of that trip to see how it stacks up against Eurostar. Keep the films coming 😀
Flixbus and it's predecessor Eurolines are/were always a lot cheaper than Eurostar, even if you book the day before . Eurostars turn up and go fares are just crazy. Saying that the prices have certainly increased for the bus. Monday (tomorrow is showing fully booked on all but one service whereas a trip on Tuesday can be had for £55 or so. That's about double what I paid before Covid.
That's great thanks
what security check did you go through? a xray?
How much did the trip cost?
How much was it
I thought you are in a Flixbus today in London 😁 22/07/22
Hi Scott what kind of recording device do you use thanks
I enjoyed that. I would prefer the bus. Far more interestng than boring Eurostar.
I hope you complained about the cold breakfast?
Whats happening to Rusty Nails metal detecting
Congratulations on 18000 subs. You really do like to torture yourself. Looking forward to you getting a kip on one of your overnight excursions a5 some stage.
Another great vlog Scott!! I was going to try flixbus for travel in the UK. Did flixbus take over eurolines?? Also, what equipment do you use for going and editing your videos please. Hope all is well, take care
Thank you so much ! Finally I found how to go London via Night bus
What was border control like? Did they only check passports or other documents too? You had to get off the bus for this part right?
It would be nice if you gave us the price but good vlog nonetheless 😊
It would have been an evening better experience if it was lashing with rain standing about at the ferry terminal!🤔
I thought that ? When you entered the bus station so much Graffiti for such a big city bus station doesn’t look great 🤷♂️☹️
Good video
I used to crew on sailing boats going across the North Sea Had no problems sleeping BUT I was used to ship life as a Army veteran Sleep when you can
I’m an American guy who is new to your channel, Scott and I truly enjoy your videos. Your relaxed style and way of handling some rather annoying situations is a gift. Just made the London-Paris journey with the family but we took Eurostar and it was tough enough with 2 kids in tow. Can’t imagine how brutal this would have been! And it’s also good to know what a dump that bus station is, for the next time we’re in Paris. Will avoid. Keep up the great work, and I’ll eagerly await seeing your next adventure.
You forgot to-say how much in Uk £ ? Little John from Chichester !
Hate it when it's rough
Euro Fratello in Italian Euro Brother. 👍
And how long was the journey in total? Come on this is basics.
How much did the trip cost ? 😤
Take it back if it's cold.
You noticed the restrooms' terrible condition, which I feel is due to those who use them. Unfortunately, some people come from countries where cleanliness is not valued and bring that culture to Europe.
Did you add the costings XX really didn't know that you can go by bus 👍👍
Hi can we do the tax refund at calais ferry terminal..?
I highly recommend you avoid Nottingham bus station too...another dump.
Have you ever thought about doing a video about getting the ferry to Arran?
Great video, just my kind of thing. But! how did you get to Paris? Cant beat a good DFDS ferry much better than Stena and P&O.
There's no Stena here. Maybe you mean Irish Ferries ?
Good stuff mate, Paris to UK seems a bit daft on anything other than a plane or train but I suppose the trip is part of the adventure.
Travelling overnight from London to Calais and beyond is OK, but the inward journey should be avoided at all costs. In summer, there can often be half a dozen coaches in the queue for the customs ahead of yours.
Have DFDS done what P & O did, and sacked all their regular staff and replaced them with agency workers?
when was this video filmed as p/o has finished ages ago??????????/
No, still going
@@RoyCousins ok ty
It was good to see you in the pound shop I forgot ask you about the Aberdeen ferry how much can you get it for
I've been on night busses between Paris and London over 60 times in the last 15 and going on the ferry was normal, never got a meal voucher though.
That station is a real dump. They've got departure boards now but they're not to be trusted. The old way of someone in a yellow jacket going about shouting LONDON was better.
Better still to get the Bla Bla bus which leaves from Bercy train station across the park/dog toilet and is much nicer.
