  • Harry Cohen explores what he refers to as heliotropic leadership. An intentional practice that emphasis the benefits of compassion, gratitude, and forgiveness.
Harry D. Cohen did his undergraduate work at Cornell and his Ph.D in Psychology at the University of Michigan. With his work with executives of major US corporations his philosophy is that universal and undeniable principles, if understood and followed, can guide behaviors in ways that yield great results. For example, authenticity and honesty breed trust. His work has been on the expression of the principle of Heliotropic Leadership: how the intentional practice of virtues such as gratitude, compassion, and forgiveness can not only uplift oneself, but can uplift anyone who comes in contact with such a leader. Great advice! I especially love the part about remembering how you make someone feel at the end of a meeting. In business there's always a lot of talk about having a relentless manner...relentless pursuit of perfection...relentless curiosity...and so on. Perhaps it's time more people practice a relentless pursuit of positivity.

This was a VERY inspiring video. He's right it's something we already know we just need to DO it. You realize sometimes, just how much a simple HELLO will make you feel when you are standing at an elevator, or walking down a hall, or just someone walking by. Awesome video!!!

I spend half the year in Savannah, GA. Deep South, lots to talk about. But, when you pass somebody, walking, biking, or in a car, black or white: "How you doin'?" "Merry Christmas," "Good Mornin." Feels good. And when they forget, and you start it off, there's almost an embarrassment, like oops, you got me. "How y'all doin?"

Harry, great talk. Being smart but not helpful! Do people feel energized or de-energized as a result of our interactions?
