      I rarely make donations to anything that doesn’t relate to an environmental cause (mostly I give to saving bats), but this show’s spiritual and intellectual value is well deserving of at least $50.

    Hey Steven, I listen to your podcasts every night! I've been in love with learning for a while now, but I think when it comes to philosophy I have found a core to learning and finding new ways to think. Thank you for running this show, thank you for the show, I learn a ton from it.

    Not only is it a clear and approachable understanding of philosophy, but the jokes are engaging. You sir are my hero. I am tonight for the first time, after 25 years of private study, attending a philosophy club at my local university. You have given me the courage to do so. Thanks

    I don't know if my question is very basic. I am not a philosophy student, but a humble enthusiast who follows videos online. To ask simply, 'Where is consciousness located according to Sartre? Is it within the individual human being? What would be the answer for a layperson, without going into philosophical jargon?'
    Also, could you do a video on Sartre and his idea of consciousness? I want to understand it as experienced my an individual human being. Not as for itself or in itself, which takes away the lucidity from a day to day experiential perspective

    I'm not a linguist but through intuition i came to the conclusion that it must only be through the geopharcial aspects that our vocal chords function to forms certain sorts of accents, basically, our geographical location decides our accent. I remember reading about a study done upon a bunch of scientists who had to stay in Antarctica for a prolonged period, their accent changed, and it did not match with the rest of English accents.

      Platonism advocated for essentialism that essence precedes existence and the existentialists flipped the script into a paradigm shift that existence precedes essence making us all nauseous with freedom.

      @@_PanchoVilla I see. This is confusing for me because I believe our essence is existence and this is eternal. To say one precedes the other is kind of silly from my perspective

    • @_PanchoVilla
      @_PanchoVilla 11 місяців тому

      @@ffffffffffffffff5840 It's great that you're engaging with these philosophical ideas and remaining skeptical to concepts that go against your convictions. The 'essence' of a true philosopher.
      With traditional Platonism, essence is seen as something predefined, while existentialism, as explained by Sartre, challenges this by suggesting that existence precedes essence, emphasizing human freedom. Think about Hegel and Kierkegaard's "anxiety is the dizziness of freedom" response.
      Your perspective, that essence is existence and eternal, aligns with a more essentialist viewpoint. It's essential (pun intended) to remember that philosophy often presents contrasting ideas, and there's room for different interpretations. Keep exploring these concepts, and you might find new insights that resonate with your perspective or challenge it further.
