I agree with a lot of the things that you're saying but there's a couple of points that are completely wrong. Number one if you list something at $600 and within a few hours you've got multiple people following it why would you start sending out offers? Secondly why would you offer free shipping on some thing that someone is willing to pay $600 for? People that buy items for $600 do not care about paying $12-$30 for shipping on it. Third why would you list something at 600 and then also put best offer because you're never gonna get $600 for it. It already puts doubt in peoples mind.
If I get people immediately following an item that's $600 I'll raise the price on it because I obviously listed it too low. My thoughts are .....do not send out offers on anything that gets immediate likes. I have a couple of things in my store that are building and building likes that are listed for $600. That builds momentum and interest in an item. It will sell for $600, I will not ship it out for free and I will not send out offers. I never send offers to people on high ticket items that lots of people are liking and there's high interest. It will sell ==it will sell full price ==and it will sell with full shipping. You are undercutting yourself here. You basically just gave away $100 if they accepted your offer and you gave them free shipping. so what if it sold fast.
I'm more than happy with the profit I made. A bird in the hand ....
