My kids middle school is going to an amusement park 3 hours away for a trip that cost 200 bucks!!! What in the world??? When I left middle school we had an awards ceremony and a end of the year party. All of the parents donated snacks.

She knew that money was designated to celebrate her sister’s accomplishments. If the trip was canceled then I would have offered to use it organize a party for baby sister had it been me.

Same here! I've only asked my mom for monetary help once, in the last 8+ years, and I paid her back two days later. That was only $150. $1650????? I can't imagine not giving that money back, regardless of what it was going to be used for. In my mind, that's not my money. It was hers paying for me to attend an international trip. For her own reasons, Mom didn't want to go on that big of a trip anymore. You give that money back, unless otherwise discussed. I'd honestly have a notorized agreement on any amount surpassing $500.

I never had any graduations growing up, except for high school. "Graduation" was moving up to the next grade. My how times have changed. 😀
How old are you? I’m no spring chicken and I had pre-school and elementary school graduation ceremonies prior to high school. I have heard of some people having eighth grade graduations. I didn’t because I went to a junior high school that was all eighth graders so we only attended that school for one year.

My mom loaned me $1,300 for a whole new bed set. frame, box spring and mattress and I told her when I got my tax return I will give it back to you. the minute my return hit my account.. I sent her $1,300 + my half for my sisters graduation present which was a James Avery bracelet with charms that was $400. so I sent back $1,500. I can not STAND children who take advantage of their parents especially when their parents have done nothing but help them throughout their lives in anything they ever needed.

I always find it weird, these kind of cases. Parents suing their children, children suing their parents, siblings suing each other. It's something I could never bring myself to do.
I always see people say that while ignoring why these situations happened in the first place.
Not everyone is like you. Some people can be raised the right way and still stab you in the back.
@NeonForceGetsuga I'm not saying that I have a perfect family. Of course, issues like this do come up from time to time. I understand that some family members can be real dicks. But for me, family is family. Whatever issues we may have, I can never bring myself to sue my parents, siblings, or worse, children.
@iykeharrison9161 That's you. Other people don't have that option. I have seen cases where a daughter tried to sue her mother for kicking her out of her husband's home. For some reason the daughter believed she had the right to live in her mother's husband's house because her mother is living there, and that the mother should babysit the children for free while she go to parties.
In this world you could have a loving family and it still won't be enough for some people.
This mother had to sue her daughter because she will never get back her money otherwise which the daughter is a terrible person for putting her mother in that situation.

In this case, the mother gave the money to the daughter to pay for a trip. The trip was cancelled, the daughter received the refund(because she made the reservations) and she kept her mother's money. That's not non paymemt of a loan, it's outright theft. Disgusting.
Mother gave her money in good faith for the girls trip and I can tell daughter was dancing around going on the trip and mother prob told her forget it just give me the 1650 back and again she just danced around it… my gut feeling is that daughter prob never intended to go on the girls trip and just collected on the good faith of mom… not very nice

When my great granddaughter passed to the 2nd grade her friend invited her to a get together including a limo, out to dinner then the next day rented a pool area for just the little girl's friends. The limo picked them up at the school. I ask the mom what will she expect at her high school graduation?

At first I was like "a trip out of the country for a junior high graduation?" 🙄 But then I realized we don't know the story. Maybe it was just a frivolous trip or maybe the kid had a rough year. I know at that age I was already suicidal and getting bullied then my dad died. Then my health problems started. Maybe they rewarded her with a vacation because she got thru some difficult stuff.

It was a gift, so maybe she isn't entitled to have it back, but I don't think her mom said that. She can't even say WHEN her mom told her she didn't want the money back. She just keeps saying, "It was after I got the refund."

I personally dont believe mom said she could keep the money since the trip was really for her younger sisters graduation. My mom and I went on an Alaskan cruise together. My mom is well off and I’m an only child, but I paid my own way. I have a good job and so does my husband (he doesn’t like when my mom pays for things unless it’s a gift like a birthday or Christmas etc.) I can’t imagine ruining my relationship with my mom for anything, especially over some money… she should’ve just given her mom the money back. It wasn’t her money anyway. There’s no excuse.
