- Stage Two of the 2025 Dakar Rally- a brutal 48-hour two-day sprint across the desert - is finally finished with top rally motorcycle competitors racing for over 11 hours on the stage. Australian Daniel Sanders continues his strangle hold on the field, winning the stage outright and putting more time between himself and his competitors. American Skyler Howes finishes the stage in second place seven minutes behind Sanders with fellow Monster Energy HRC Honda Racing Rally teammate Toscha Schareina right on his heels a few seconds behind.
Defending Dakar Rally winner and American favorite Ricky Brabec (Honda) struggled today on the shorter half of the two-day stage, losing upwards of ten minutes to Sanders.
The race enters Stage Three tomorrow after stranding nearly 50 motorcycle competitors in the remote Saudi sand last night. Those racers will be trickling into the bivouac for a long time, and with weather threatening tomorrow, organizers have shortened Stage Three by nearly 200km, putting 300km of timed racecourse on the menu tomorrow - not much of a rest after the 48-hour stage.

G day boys love the pod cast , GO Chuckie , Aussie, Aussie,Aussie 👍🇦🇺
Shout out to Double Take Mirrors. Heard on your show yesterday that there was a lifetime replacement policy. Didn't know this. Broke my mirror mount ten years or so ago and no longer have the mirror but have pictures. Sent them an email and they're now hooking me up w replacements. Thanks to Double Take and to Jesse & Quinn for pointing this out.
Rad!
G’day from Australia gents love your show. Ever since Chucky started riding rally people who’ve been paying attention know it’s been a case of when not if he wins the Dakar…🤞luck goes his way this year. Get it Chucky 🤘
Australians are crushing it.
Thanks guys, I look forward to this everyday.
Hey guys, apologies I’m a day or so behind on the podcast so you may have already mentioned already, but don’t forget the other American ex-biker now in the 4 wheel category, Andrew Short is navigating in one of the Can-am SSV’s. Great show guys, enjoying listening again from the UK 🇬🇧
We never forget about Andrew Short! But we haven't caught up with him yet. Will do tomorrow when he's trying to get some rest. Would love to hear how it's going for him.
Awesome work guys - appreciate what you are doing.
Quinn - what do you know about what used to be Speedbrain ? Why has this small team been able achieve so much in rally (when teams like Yamaha have not) ? What resources do they have access to (foundry, milling, reliability testing, R&D, … ?). Who are the brains behind this operation ? Does Hero own part of the operation or do they just pay for services ?
Cheers.
I will definitely ask Quinn about this tomorrow. He has some history with Speedbrain.
They have boatloads of money 💰💰
I gave up watching the official feed sold to TV after 50% of the feed was adverts. So now I just rely on you guys.
Thanks! I'm sure glad I turned off the TV in the background. :)
Love the pod; apprciate all the work gents! Heavy hitting questions: why is Quinn so sad?! ;) Will you Interview the HotoMoto Gal!
I have a lot of fun picking his face expressions for the thumbnail. Hoto Moto lady is my favorite personality at the race this year so far.
Quinn’s instinct is a little off, regarding the Fantic.
Jesse’s right! Fantics are basically Yamahas! And although the 450 Rally is Fantic’s own project, the base is a WR 450.
So Jesse, you do know more than Quinn, at least about Fantics and Yamahas!! 🤭
Hey Guys! Thanks for the insight! Look forward to each day’s results with you. Question: Ride for Rocky?
It is Hard & Difficult for the the very very very best in the world
With less transport stage miles, would it possibly mean less tire wear this year?
Sounds like it was a brutal stage but it’s amazing the riders seem to be in good spirits - Quinn how fun is this?!
We don't give Quinn comment permissions or else he will just keep talking about how cool he is. But, yes, the stage was insanely hard for how early in the race we are, in our opinion. I think all the media training the racers get is paying off - especially at Hero where nobody ever stresses out about anything!- haha.
we see several time drivers on the phone during tech problems. Has the regulation changed?
Phone regulations have changed in the fairly recent past. Will try to clarify! Thanks for the question.
Question for Quinn, how big would this be for KTM for Sanders to win the dakar in the middle of the financial issues that KTM is in?
Will ask him!
Is Quinn happy that a KTM is leading all the Hondas?
until they run out of money - on Weds
Quinn has been looking forward to how this new KTM would perform as he's done a lot of development and durability work on it here in California. He's honestly just happy knowing people are doing hard things - haha.
Frantic are Yamaha wr450f
Why doesn't Mason have a top factory ride? Also what is the coolest new technology on Dakar bikes this year?
The ASO is secretive about how they announce things so it gives them the ability to dictate the outcome.
because the organisation got rid of the quad class, can i ride a quad in the bikes class?
Can you give examples of how penalties are assigned?
Hey cody!
Question? is ktm's throwing in the towel on racing by 2026 for real?
I disagree Kevin benavidez should have done the right thing and not entered. He did a major disservice for his team. This is in all likelihood KTMs last Dakar. And he's barely surviving. There are hundreds of more fit guys who could have stepped in there. Hes let everybody down.
Talking over a guest is bad form
Sorry, we're working on getting better every day. Some days we get worse.
It would be really reasonable to give the racers option to choose between digital and manual navigation. So many penalties for something that is not even racers' fault... I bet most of them would go back to the paper roadbook
How soon does the Dakar organization start the next years course layout post race? Thanks from Hurricane 🏜️✌🏼🏁
Nice question. We have some insight into Edo Mossi who head's up the Reconnaissance team that builds the route every year. It starts early!
