- Bruno Sacco is the automotive designer, the chief designer of Daimler-Benz (now Daimler AG) from 1975 to 1999. One of the greatest designers in the history of the automotive industry.
Sacco began to work at Mercedes-Benz in 1958 and his first successes were connected with work on such models as the Mercedes-Benz 600 sedan, the 230 SL convertible and a number of the famous experimental test sports cars Mercedes-Benz C111. In 1970, Sacco was appointed head of the design department, and in 1975 he became director of the center of style instead of Friedrich Geiger. Since then, all Mercedes-Benz models, starting with the Mercedes W123, have been created under the direction of Bruno Sacco. Just think about what models he gave us - three generations of S-class (w126, w140 and w220), the first compact Mercedes (model 190, w201), SL roadster w129, two generations of E-class (w124 and w210), C-class w202, CLK W208, the first SLK and the first A-class, the first M-class. Bruno Sacco's contribution to the development of Mercedes-Benz can not be overestimated.
One of the most successful works of Bruno Sacco is the Mercedes S-class W126 sedan and the C126 coupe, which became the standard of prestige and style.

Oth Ja Yeah, I am with you on that! I love both of my W124s. I have an 87 turbo diesel with 400k. Also have a 95 non turbo with 196K. I like them both the same. Newer MB do not look as well as the old school ones.

For about three years I needed to buy a car… I couldn’t pull the trigger on anything.. nothing convinced me.. until I bumped into a refurbished C126 at auction.. that I couldn’t resist! I think I’ll either add a new S class coupe (although I dislike the shape) or a 124 :)

Yes Mercedes sold their soul , their essence for the easy money when they could've had another strategy and earn more money. It's sad and I feel hurt by their choices that are only driven by the turnover and not the legacy, that's why they will never reach the status of Rolls Royce....Unless they hire me as their Marketing Director. That's my statement.

Bruno Sacco hat ohne Zweifel die schönsten und zeitlosesten Mercedes gezeichnet. Seine Philosophie, je einfacher je schöner wurde leider durch eine schnell vergängliche Effekthascherei abgelöst. Für mich der grösste Autodesigner aller Zeiten.

DIY Dan yes...but if you look at w140 ...my god what a car.....and when i think it was design in the 80s....
As someone who owns one, I do agree that it isn't the best Mercedes, especially if you buy one thats been neglected, but it certainly is better than the new ones in terms of aging and reliability. Look at the w140 and w220 w221...you can often times buy those up for less than you can a well maintained late model w126. The only thing better about the new ones is the safety systems....I could care less about the "nick nacks" which will burden those cars as they age.

Each of our own cars were designed by him and perhaps the design is what drew our attention and affection to our cars in the first place. Ah rubbish. That’s like the purists that say “ApPlE dIeD wHeN StEvE dId”. He would have to retire some time and I’d be more than certain he would still be a consultant even to this day. Mercedes still design and make brilliant cars and always will.

I would like to say it's yes and no, depending on how you look at the time periods between 1990s and now. To a certain extent, Merc does lose some of its prestige after early 2000s but it's not entirely caused by new designers. At that time, Merc had to figure out ways to sell more newer models to avoid losing profits in the long run. So, it decided to manufacture models that look stunning and following current design trends but with less durable electronics and mechanical parts compared to the old Merc cars from earlier decades. That's how Merc really losing its prestige (more cars having breakdowns, complicated electronic systems, ppl having to buy new Mercs every 7-8 years instead of keeping old Mercs for 20-30 years).
Mercedes W123 - W124 - W126 - W201, meiner Meiung nach die "schönsten" und besten Autos die jemals gebaut wurden! Ich bin stolz drauf einen W201 fahren zu dürfen! Mein Dank und Respekt gilt diesem Mann und seinem Team! Eine Schande wie die heutigen Mercedes aussehen... :(

M Bruno sacco is a true legend , no one will ever know how to shape a Mercedes after him . Mercedes now is making popcorn and Hyundai designs such the w205 c class , w213 e class , cla , gla ... And all these new garbages. The most important thing in the new Mercedes models that they have removed the star om the hood because these garbages don't deserve it anymore.

I got my baby w124 in 2001, it’s ‘87 year 200E petrol engine, still drives like new, no more cars like this...

When Bruno Sacco was in the design team of Mercedes Benz, every model that left the factory was an instant sensation,from the Ardenuer 300d to the W220..
His models were so succeful that Mercedes dominated the luxury car market segment globally , that it managed to kill the Rolls Royce.
When he left, Every Mercedes Benz model from the year 2002 is just not getting the vibe and character of the Benz glory years.
