Here are the details:
Guy didnt pay child support. A drivers license suspension is one of the penalties for not paying child support. In Michigan, law allows a license suspension even if you do not currently have one. That way, if you try to get one, the suspension can be automatically applied.
This dude gets pulled over and doesnt produce a drivers license for the officer. He gets a ticket and a court date. He calls into his court date via Zoom while DRIVING. Judge looks at the record in front of him and sees he has a license suspended on his record. Orders him to Jail.
Guy goes on social media and defends himself saying he paid child support so that suspension should of been lifted.
New court date as shown in this video. Judge did some digging. Turns out the guy didnt pay the court fees to have the suspension removed so his sob story is BS. But on top of that, this guy has never had a drivers license EVER. And the guy is playing dumb about not knowing he never had a drivers license because he got an ID card in December 2023, which people get for themselves when they dont have a drivers license to use as identification.

The guy sounds like he went to Trump University, where they taught students to try their case on social media. That method does not seem to work well for anybody, including this guy and Mr. Tiny Hands.

I can't believe the judge was getting backlash! The judge was respectful, fair, and following the law. The man was driving without a license while illegally using a handheld phone.

At first, this case just humored me and it seemed almost unbelievable. After I watched the clips about 50 times, I think I fell in love with the Judge's demeanor and reserved yet direct temperament. He showed the other side of the justice system that many who complain about public workers, don't often see. They(we) encounter a lot of "challenges" from the public and are expected to be unemotional. This Judge exercised the PERFECT balance of authority, intelligence, and he kept his cool when many others would've thrown the book at this defendant. Wishing everyone the best❤

People only rushed to defend him after new facts came to light (which makes sense since people didn't want a guy who was likely innocent get dragged through the mud). It's only after the fact that we found out he never had a license to begin with.

Totally. I'm trying to figure out how his license was suspended (and allegedly cleared) if he never had a license as this judge claims. We're only given this one clip. I'd like to see the defendant's response. Not saying the judge is wrong but some people don't like to be corrected and will create a story to cover a mistake.

"At first, the internet trolled Harris for driving during the hearing, and then came a wave of sympathy when online court records in his old child support case showed that a judge ordered the suspension be rescinded in January 2022. However, a judicial assistant for Saginaw County Circuit Court's chief judge said the Friend of the Court never sent a clearance to the Secretary of State because Harris never paid a fee to have it lifted to their clerk's office. But even if Harris had paid those fees, it would not have given him the green light to drive because he's never had a license."

He was suspended from getting a Michigan license & driving in Michigan with an out-of-state license, so I've heard.
Local news article said that Michigan law allows a suspension to be issued even if you do not have a license. Then, if you went to get a license issued after the fact, it would have that suspension attached to it already.

The irony is he went to the DMV in December 2023 to reissued his state ID but too lazy to get his DL as ordered by the courts. He made his lawyer look very bad yesterday with the lies.

You have to do something for your license to be suspended... what's the most normal cause is that someone is caught drinking and driving. But since I don't have access I can't say why his is suspended.
His "driving privilege" was suspended. He never had a license. If you never had a DL and you are caught driving, the state suspends your ability to obtain a DL for a predetermined amount of time.

For those that don’t know the significance of the last part of the clip, the Michigan ID is something you can get in lieu of a driver’s license to use for identification. You are not allowed to have both. Choosing to get a Michigan ID is saying you don’t intend to drive. He’s never had a driver’s license his whole life.

I had a valid driver's license for 30+ but due to medical issues because of cancer treatment gave it up before I hurt myself or someone else. Driving is not a right it's a privilege. There's excellent public transportation in Washtenaw County. The man needs to go to prison before he hurts or kills someone.

I'll freely admit confusion. I would appreciate any clarification. If this man has never had a license in any state, then how was his license suspended? How can a non-existent license be suspended?
driving privileges were suspended - ie the ability to get a license - his license was not suspended.
I'll give it a shot: the confusion was caused by the media dumbing down the wording in the original reports. They should have stated more accurately that his driving privileges were suspended, not an actual license. He's not allowed to drive in Michigan, period.

His ability to OBTAIN a license was suspended in 2010 and ability to obtain reinstated in 2022 but he never tried to get a license.

I have an elderly neighbor who's girlfriend a the time told me that he made a living out of deliberately getting into vehicle accidents, causing them and then getting payouts from others insurance and making the claim of having a disablity from it. He did it to her as well, demanded that he drive, without a license, when she was moving. Totalled her brand new vehicle. Made her change places into the drivers seat before the police arrived. Made her claim that she was driving and then went after her insurance and got a payout from it.
She went off the deep end not too long after we met and she shared this bit of loveliness with me. He tried to form some sort of friendship with me, nope and I will never drive him anywhere. But in that time, he admitted that what she told me as being one of his side hustles was true. He was also regularly driving another neighbors car without a license for a time. These types never change. I stear clear of him.

I got the same thing my sister wants to drive in Florida with a Virginia license and refuse to pay or get a Florida license because it’s would cost her a $60 fee that the state has already told her about and new license fee. You moving out of state that fee is automatically assessed just in case you move back. You moved to Florida 120 days ago. The law 30 days.
They do at times say you can have your license back and it doesn't go through so you get in trouble. That's legitimately happened to me.
