This looks REALLY good for streaming! I can't jump on the AV1 train yet, but having H265 support with RTMPS will be good for improving the quality of my current streams while also keeping the latency of my stream the same!
I was about to same the same, I am planning to buy cheapest ARK card to serve as 2nd AV1 encoder card(and i guess i can offload some apps to use it as well like discord on other times to take it from main gpu), but in the mean time it is truly amazing that i could stream H265 with it, too bad Twitch doesnt support h265. UA-cam > Twitch ? Twitch doesnt even support AV1 yet haha

And here I thought only AV1 support was added for the RTMPS, but seeing H.265 getting support as well, DANG I may have to update my OBS to experience it myself and provide feedback 🔥
I don't think folks understand how huge having 32-bit float for audio is. It's a nice safety net, but if you set your audio recording up correctly (noise gate on voice, compression and eq on all busses, mixing to limit masking, and a hard limiter on master bus) and edit the audio for your videos so your overall loudness is -18dB to -14dB LUFS, you'll be gravy.
I updated to version 29.1.3 and there is no option for 32-bit float for me.

That's huge! It's like, with streamfx going behind a pay wall, Andilippi has us on the effects front, but OBS decided to have us on the encoding front.

a casual amateur late for the OBS party, but was surprised multitrack audio was not directly in my face, and multitrack video is not
directly supported. I’m happy with simple encoding options for recording, but want multitrack for all things editing.
I've really been digging the synth-wave you were playing in today's video dude! I've wanted to support you through using Backingtrack in the past, but a lot of what I've heard seemed way too high octane for my streams. This vid has changed my mind though, think I'll give it a shot in my next stream! I can't wait for these features to be included in the stable build! I had a question for clarification though about the stinger feature -- does the stinger stay pre-loaded in RAM the entire duration OBS is open? Or does that just mean that you hit the transition button, it waits to load the whole video into RAM, and _then_ transitions?

PS: Adobe Premiere does not officially support mkv for a couple years now. One of the reasons why I switched to Davinci (other than the basically non existent HDR workflow in Premiere)

have you had any issues streaming with hevc to youtube? i can't seem to maintain a smooth stream with hevc. it looks like everything's dumbed down to 30p on stream, but there's no dropped frames being reported nor does my stream drop. im streaming at 1440p60. when i stream with h264, it's smooth.

Just found your channel! I'm interested in a lot of information that you provide in previous videos, not necessarily for streaming, but other activities that would require similar setups. Anyways besides all of that, in your 3 steps to sound like a pro video you advertise a personal product, the desk mat. Any chance that is coming back into stock soon or a custom one can be made? Would love to have one that covers my entire desk.

Great video as always Epos, thank you! At this moment i experience a funny bug since OBS 29.0 while streaming using implemented Audio Capture Output, in game audio starts perfectly synced and overtime it gets desync like 1 to 1.5 seconds. Like you shoot a gun in csgo and after 1 full second you hear the gunshot!
Same for me, audio slowly de-syncs over time with the application audio capture (which is apparently still in beta).
Will admit just tried the beta today with my MBA sapphire AMD 7900XTX. With AV1 for streaming on UA-cam. It was amazing. Had to do a little tweaks but it worked. Flaw in av1 streaming compared to x264 and x265 you cannot alter or increase or decrease the bitrate while live. For me the stream disconnected and didn't even bother with continuing that is till rebooting the PC .
What is the hardware "cost" in all those upgrades?
For example what is the bandwidth storage necessary for recording in 32bit float+video+gaming to avoid problems?
This is huge. U could technically get lossless audio before but not with mkv. This makes it so much easier

It's definitely the way to go, after having a play and watched the AV1 stream, At the same bitrate my stream looked superb @ 1440p (18k bitrate) . ;)

do you remux to mp4 or you keep the mov file to upload to youtube for example? great video as always!
If I’m JUST uploading the clip to UA-cam, I’ll just upload the MOV, but I rarely upload clips straight from OBS so I edit them, but I still edit the MOV files. (Though depending on encoder choices and editor you may need to remux to non-fragmented MOV first)

As someone who has no idea how to set up ffmpeg and only uses the "Advanced" tab with the "HEVC" codec, this update is so amazing!
I dunno if you have time for this or if this is anywhere in your topic range for your videos, but could you maybe consider talking to us about colour ranges when recording videos and when streaming? (like, what would be the best settings to record near lossless videos with and what is best for streaming, etc.)
Like, that 4:4:4 and 4:2:0 thing.
Also how, even if you choose Full (S)RGB 4:4:4 (at least on AMD wth HEVC), the recorded video still seems to be 4:2:0 when looked at with with the programme "MediaInfo".
I don't even have these options that he is talking about after the update.

When you open OBS and go into settings and then "Advanced", you will see a section called "Video".
There you can set the colour format, hence the 4:2:0 2 planes/3 planes things as well as the 4:4:4 thing.
Below that should be the colour space, which gives you a lot of different options, mine is set at sRGB. And right next to that is the colour range which has only 2 options, limited and full.
My question was as to what would be the best options to set for colour accuracy and near lossless for recording, as well as what to set for when you stream.
I also noticed that 4:4:4 colour format still ends up being 4:2:0 if you inspect the recorded video file with the programme "Mediainfo".
So I wondered if that is just how it is with AMD and nVidia or if it is just an AMD bug and maybe nVidia cards can record in 4:4:4.
Hi EposVox good video but the SVT-AV1 encoder stops my stream it says its taking to long to encode. Andy idea why it does that?

ive been having this problem and wanted to see if you knew about it.
ive been using my laptop to stream my switch with a video capture card and when i use obs to see it i can barely hear the audio when i first used the video capture card it was fine but had echo but once i fixed that it went super low
With this beta can i import lossless audio into premiere pro? In da vinci resolve it works really well, but in premiere pro it makes some trouble. Premiere says: doesnt support this compression typ. mov or mkv it makes no difference. but i want record 6 audio tracks and import this to premiere pro, but i get every time 1 audio track. Any ideas? Thank you
Well, regarding what you say at 3:53 ... they haven't fixed it. I recorded hours of gameplay footage over the past 2 days in fragmented .mov only to find out today that trying to work with that container in Davinci Resolve 18.6 results in repeatable crashes.
The usual "helpful" Resolve forums just say "don't use fragmented .mov". Ah well, remuxing it is then. Or do you know of any way to make Resolve work with this format?

I'm running a 6650xt and I still get the option to use both av1 encoders. Is this just a visual option or do I actually have access to using them? You mentioned that only 7000 series amd GPUs have av1 encoding.

I've seen you review many capture cards. Do you know how to record smooth game videos at 60fps or 120fps? The game I want to record has an in-game fps of 130-300fps, it's not consistent. I have a 240hz monitor, and I'm willing to lower it to 120Hz to use the Avermedia 4k GC573 to record at 120fps or 60fps. However, the video still has stuttering and duplicated frames. Do you know a solution without enabling Vsync or locking fps in the game.
hi Epos, bit of a long shot, but need help with audio encoder. None of the PCM audio encoders work for me on my PC and when i drop them in davinci the audio does not even show up in the track. If i change the 24bit ALAC it works perfectly fine. just a little confused
any help would be appreciated thanks
Why record not the AV1 encoder for recording? for smaller file sizes for the same quality

For a game recording for sharpest detail possible would hvec with 4444 be it currently?
I mean, *technically* sure. But if you're not upscaling or zooming or anything, it will get clamped to 4:2:0 whenever you export your video from a video editor (or when UA-cam processes it if you just upload a clip straight from OBS) so there won't be any real difference. If you're not scaling/zooming, I'd rather suggest you do 10-bit than 4:4:4

I have a problem with currente version of OBS 29.0.2 witha HAGS , if HAGS is on OBS lag until freeze all pc until i close OBS, before 29.0.2 this is not happen, with HAGS off all work great.Have a RTX 3070 wit Ryzen 7 5700X with DDR4 32 GB 3733Mhz.Question did you encounter any problems like this?

Question: how do you use alpha transparency when recording in the newer versions of OBS? I've been struggling with this for a bit since the application I use can output to alpha in OBS
OBS can’t output alpha clips if that’s what you mean.
But to use sources with alpha (like Nvidia Broadcast or some v-tubing stuff) you just set the Video Capture Device source for it to RGBA (or BRGA) in the properties. Should “just work”
@@EposVox It used to on older builds using the PNG CPU encoding, though it did lag when recording. Only reason would be for VRChat's alpha output for it's in game camera. Might also be because it needs to be full screened but Ill try again

One Thing Eposvox if you feel like answering i am curious about why can i record a great av1 file mkv,mp4 but when i try to replay it in obs it lags and stutters severely yet i can play it in windows media player just fine? TY

@EposVox I'm not sure what's going on, but yesterday I tried recording gameplay footage using Fragmented MOV, NVENC HEVC, FFmpeg PCM (32-bit float) and Premiere could NOT load the audio. I had to remux it in OBS. What should I use instead for best audio? Thank you!

Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out what the optimal setting for the RODE NT USB is for OBS. Do I have to check the box for mono? When I record without mono the sound sounds a bit different I think, maybe someone would like to hear about it?
The sound is coming from both sides, regardless of whether I set it to mono or not
I would also like to know whether I should set the audio encoder in OBS to 32 bit or leave it at 16 bit. (Rode NT USB only supports 16 bit)
Can microphones convert these 32 bits at all, even though they can only do 16 bits?

My specs are i9 13900k with a GeForce RTX 4090. My internet speed is about 937.53 mbps download and 946.00 mpbs upload. What are the best settings for my setup/connection? What is the best encoder settings bitrate and rate control for 1080p 60 fps recording?

@EposVox I finally upgraded to latest obs but had always used CoreAudio AAC, is FFmpeg AAC the same? better? *(for live streaming, not recording) as I still have CoreAudio AAC as an option. I should also mention I stream live music performances so max audio quality is my biggest concern.

i really hope we can eventually choose audio encoder per track. my workout would be: track 1 stream audio AAC, track 2 VOD audio AAC, track 3 desktop audio Flac/lossless, track 4 microphone Flac/lossless
That’s very unlikely. Your stream audio is already sent in AAC so you don’t need to record it separately
@EposVox What if i game on a rx 6700 or nvidia 3060 but put a intel arc in the same computer for av1 how would that effect my preformance and input lag and all those little things ?

Are you on the beta? Have you chosen UA-cam RTMPS in your stream settings? All is explained in the original video linked in description
Been using OBS 29.1 to stream in AV1 to UA-cam and it has been a night and day difference in terms of getting high level quality with what would be considered low bitrate on H264. Just need UA-cam to not reencode to vp9
If I have a dedicated PC to stream, is it possible to encode AV1 using the CPU? Or even on a dedicated m1 mac using CPU?
As far as I know, we can use SVT-AV1 as encoder in OBS to use CPU encoding, but it is even more resource hungry than x264. Even Ryzen 5900x is not quite enough.

Couple questions about this update:
1. Despite having 2160p set as my canvas and scaled resolution, my UA-cam streams are being limited to 1440p. (I am using ultra low latency so that could be why but I forgot to test)
2. I'm not allowed to use an HDR output for UA-cam RTMPS despite clear support for HEVC and AV1. Is this a temporary restriction on UA-cam's side or am I out of luck?

Bonus question. I've been looking into getting a dedicated mic for years but I've been scared to pull the trigger because I game on a yoga ball. I bounce up and down 1-2 inches while playing games. What kind of mic should I be looking for? The Sennheiser USB mic you showed recently seems great but I worry people will hear me moving away from the mic.
1. Ultra low latency is limited to 1440p under normal conditions but even normal low latency mode is limited to 1440p with the new codecs
2. HDR support is temporarily disabled during this beta while UA-cam fixes it up
3. All mics will be obvious that you’re moving away from the mic. A compressor in post will help and a condenser will do best to keep you heard - but if variance is that big of a concern you should probably look into a Lav system like the Rode Wireless Go kit

what is the most stable OBS version?
What are the file size differences between PCM 16, 24, and 32 bit audio compared to what is used now?
stereo pcm 16 is 1411kbps. pcm 24 is 2116.5kbps. pcm 32 is 2822kbps.
pcm/wav is not compressed at all. it's recommended to use Flac or ALAC to get the file size down while maintaining lossless compression
Finally lossless audio support. OSB is finally useful.
I have an Intel A380 alongside an RTX 3070ti + 12900k, OBS 29.1, there is no such option to select QSV AV1, I have YT selected on my stream tab, am I doing something wrong? Do i need to disable the iGPU?
Disabled the GPU but alas still no QSV AV1
UPDATE: Found on a forum that AV1 can show but only if i plug my 2nd monitor into the A380, however NEW ISSUE: now when scrolling or anything similar is happening on the 2nd monitor the 3D usage skyrockets making scrolling a web page/discord a laggy stuttery mess due to 100% GPU usage. what sense does this make?
Oh this is odd. FLAC not working in Davinci Resolve? Am I right this applies to FLAC within MP4? FLAC files by themselves work fine.
What is better 32bit float or opus?
FINALLY! I'm so tired of AAC and it's nice that I can use Opus and even PCM for masters.

I noticed recently that Google Drive doesn't support playing even h265 to not even mention AV1. The player front-end looks similar to the YT one, but I guess the lack of reencoding is a major difference
Hello EposVox, i just download the OBS 29.1 beta. And i got a question hopefully you or someone else in the comments can answer.
I want to stream with AV1 and HDR to UA-cam. But for UA-cam you need the UA-cam HLS service instead of the RTMPS. But when UA-cam HLS is active you can't use Nvidia AV1 encoder.
In my knowledge AV1 supports HDR.
I know what i am trying to do is proberbly too soon, but it seems the only choice i have now is to stream with AV1 or use HDR with HECV encoder. And we can't do both yet.
Ps. I am new at streaming, using OBS etc. But your video's helped a lot to set things up!
I noted in this video that HDR is disabled for the AV1 beta at the moment. Should hopefully be working by time this build comes out of beta

Yep hopefully they get it working soon. I believe UA-cam has quirks to work out on their end.
@@EposVox Would be great, for now i keep using h.264. Did some test with AV1 streaming to UA-cam but seems to stop/cut out the stream after a few minutes. Don't know what is going on with that.

So to be clear cause im a dummy,do you only get the real benefit of av1 if you have a gpu that supports both av1 encoding and decoding? If your gpu only does av1 decoding then you dont get to stream at high res with low bandwidth? I have a 2060 super still would i need to get a new gpu that supports both?(arc,amd 7 series or rtx 4 series cards)?
Correct, your GPU won’t encode AV1 but you can still stream HEVC with the update. Which is still better than H264!

Nvenc just refers to the encoders running on Nvidia’s cards. HEVC is one such option. So the answer would be: Both. Nvenc HEVC heh

RTX 3000 can do HEVC streaming & recording, but not AV1

I don't have any of the FFmpeg lossless audio encoder options. All i have is ACC (no FFmpeg next to it) and Opus (no FFmpeg next to this one either). Do I need to install these codecs?
Are they not there at all or just greyed out? are you in simple or advanced output mode?

we need AV1 for twitch
whenever I use ffmpeg pct 32_bit float audio encoder my mic audio doesn't record when I play the recording. I'm using MacBook Air m2 15inch. even ppm 24bit doesn't work and not record my mic audio I'm using there built in mic and it even shows that my mic is recording the audio in the audio mixer but after recording it just doesn't show but with ffmpeg alac 24 bit my mic audio shows when I play the video I'm using fragmented mov also can you help me?
As I stated, PCM audio doesn't show up in editors for fragmented files without remuxing them. Either remux, or stick with ALAC. ALAC is more than good enough.

I looked into it before and I don’t think it does hardware acceleration on windows
Lots of forum threads from devs basically saying it’s impossible to implement
1:16 worth mentioning that alac and flac are BOTH free/libre. the only difference here is the bit depth, flac being 16 bit and alac being 24 bit
FYI, FLAC is available in 24 bit. Use it all the time in Reaper. Now whether OBS supports FLAC in 24 bit may be another issue.

the new mp4 is sick cause i honestly hated using mkv cause so many programs dont support it properly which meant i always had to do work to it

Can I buy an Intel GPU with avi encoding capability and throw it into the second slot of my all amd system and use it to stream my games off of? I'm currently using an AMD 5800X3D and 6950XT to stream to UA-cam at 18,000 kbps. Streams look way better than twitch at 6k, but I really wanna push the limits of quality since I play in 4k120 and wish my stream looked close to the beauty I see on my screen.
