Chino's vocals and the transition from the verse to the chorus on this track is musically fucking brilliant.

Rick Mooney Abe Cunningham is one of those under the radar drummers that fits the part so well. He add so much to their sound.
I feel like this is one of the best choruses the band ever wrote. Such a slow, melancholic, yet heavy and dark atmosphere. I guess you could apply that to their whole discography really

+PhilMcCool Deftones are always that "late at night" type band for me. Going way back to high school getting high and driving around in Oklahoma City jamming White Pony circa 2001-2002.
+creekandseminole - For sure man. "Roll the windows down, this cool night air is curious." Around The Fur on the other hand is one of the best summer sunset albums. Love listening to Mascara when it's really warm.

Gauze is a perfect example of a fully evolved Deftones track. It has the old school chugging riffs, just the right dose of aggression combined with a smooth chorus, and the bridge/fade-out for the conclusion is sick. After DE and SNW albums I don't know what more critics expect out of these guys. They are right on point with what I expected from this album. Expecting 1995 Adrenaline style from a bunch of 40 year olds is ridiuculous, not like it's team sleep style ambient stuff either.

This song is beyond amazing. To hear this, coming from Deftones, totally floors me! I've been listening to them since around '96. To see their progression through the years is something to behold. This track in particular is just such a testament to their versatility and their ability to maintain their own sound.

Man, when i first heard this album i was like meh.
Coding at work i put it on a few more times and was like dam, i like it.
Listening to it for the 50th time i fucking love the entire album and this song that i didn't even consider is now my favorite.

Not sure what my favorite album is anymore. It's always been between Around the Fur and White Pony. That is until this album came into existence. This is a masterpiece and in my opinion their best since White Pony.

This and Leathers are my favourite tracks from Koi No Yokan. Listening to either of those songs while skating (especially at night) just pushes me further and faster. Almost like gliding through space to get to where I'm going. It's effortless and far. So good.

This album totally reinforces Chino being one of my top vocalists that I try to emulate and learn from. The many different things he does just works. I love this band. Stephen's playing is something I also try to emulate and learn from. There is no need to do anything flashy. Sometimes the simple things are the most beautiful. God... this band.
All of their songs out do the next. Where does it end. Hopefully never. We love us some DEFTONES!!!

One thing that amazes me with Deftones is the consistency of their style across decades. Few artists/groups can achieve it. If you've ever thought to yourself or heard someone say "This has a deftones feel to it", that's what I'm talking about.

I love Chi's bass work, but I gotta say the new bassist has really earned my respect. I don't know why I was hating on him, it's not like Chi got kicked out of the band or something. It was just bad luck, but all in all I dig the new stuff too. The evolution of their sound grows with very album. you never know what to expect.
