Thanks for sharing your tutorial on this dragon book! It is absolutely fantastic! This brings back fond memories of my mother covering base of lamps, bottles and a small metal trash can back in the 60's.
I’m gonna borrow this idea for my book of shadows where I have a collection of beastiary notes, potions and spells. I started the project for a RenFaire. This would be a perfect cover!!! Thank you soooo much!!!
I'm amazed of how "witty" you are with this book, and all your crafts! They are worth watching! I even didn't know about a Gilder's Paste! Thanks for showing!
After making a text block I have been looking for ideas for covers. This is beautifully done. I love how meticulous and lovely the egg shell turned out. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is the most amesome altered book. I am gonna make one for my brother since I got him addicted to Game of Thrones. he will love it. Thanks for your creativity.
Beautiful piece of art! I love book art and egg shell art and love how you combined the two. Gorgeous book! I checked out your blog and also love the other book you have posted with this one. It is also an amazing piece of art. Very creative!
Thank you so very much on the trick and tip on the glossy accents! 👏👏👏🙌I have fought glossy accents... but I don’t use it too much, bc of that! So nice to hear about tips. I love this hidden drawer book! It’s so nice. And it can be made for all kinds of special occasions!
Thank you so very much for this amazing and fun tutorial, my 16 yo grandson would love this, he always misses out as the girls seem to get all the crafty things (Junk Journals/ scrapbooks) so I'm going to give this fabulous wonderful Dragon Eye with secret drawers a go. wish me luck, so very happy I have found your tutorials x
Wow...very creative, and brilliant. Going to try it. Hope it comes out as good. Already have old egg shells that my husband save up all winter for the spring garden. He won't miss a few.lol
Awesome texture. Very inspiring. I noticed the iris of the eye appears to be moving when viewing at an angle. The pupil appears smaller. Spooky. Obviously due to viewing through the thick glossy accents that bends the light. Nice effect it gives.
So I am super excited, I finished my book last night and it turned out so good. :) Your tutorial was so great and helped me through every step. The only thing I did different was cheat on the eye. lol I found some plastic eyes at the dollar store and it turned out perfect. :) So thank you again for such an inspiring idea.
I have used this great tutorial to make two very different journal covers- a Book of Shadows Halloween prop and a Dragon journal with pop ups. I have linked your channel under these videos hoping others can have this much fun! Very inspirational.
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Love how you did the Dragon's skin and eyes. TFS your amazing techniques with us for free, it is much appreciated with this new subbie!
i have never attempted anything like this but i am currently making a mini album for my Grandson who just started army cadets and i think this will really encourage him to use the album, more than just a few army symbols on the cover. I did try to download the eye but could not get it to be small, so have to figure out something else unless i find someone who knows how to help me make it small . This is a wonderful project and I am now a subscriber and thank you so much for the inspiration.
Hi Dorothy, If you go back to the Dragon post on my blog I fixed the image so it should be the right size. If you still have problems email me through the blog and I will email the image to you.
I love this. For some reason I have egg shells, don't even know why but woo-hoo I now can justify having them and try something amazing. You take the I could never out of your projects with the very understandable instructions and different ways to accomplish it. Am so looking forward to more as you have time to do them. Oh, went to the store you mentioned, all I can say is it's going to take forever to clear off the card when I finally get done. Should I thank you or grouse about you?
New subbie here. This is absolutely amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing your incredible talent with us! I checked out your blog as well. WOW! You are SO talented and very generous!!! Blessings!!! 💖Andi
New subbie here! WOW! Absolutely amazing work! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us! SO looking forward to watching more of your videos. Blessings! Andi
Seriously though, your tutorial is Amazing, reminds me of a cross between the Harry Potter monster book of monsters and the lord of the rings sauron's eye.
Thank you for sharing this my mom will love this for Halloween she always asks me to make things for her like this and she will be beyond proud this also gives me an idea to thank u again for ur creativeity
I am getting ready to attempt to make this and was just wondering if you had a break down of what was used to line the tins on the outside and making the the edges and shelves also.
Fantastic tutorial, thank you I found your blog in the middle of last year when I was looking for Apothecary information. Love the halloween carnival also. :) Chris
+Chris Caine Here is the link to the post on my blog. If you scroll down the post to about mid-way you'll see the eye. artfullymusing.blogspot.com/2015/07/two-alchemy-themed-altered-books-with.html
could you please do a tutorial to show how you made the draws with the embellies in them, as i run a craft group on youtube and fb called international crafters swap group and im thinking of having one of your projects in the swap i will have a link to your original vid and mention your name as the creator and hopefully you will get some nice comments lol irene xx
Here is a tutorial on my blog where I cover how to cut a hole in a book. The only difference in this book is that the holes are on the sides and you don't cut a hole in the cover. I have far more tutorials on my blog than I do you UA-cam.artfullymusing.blogspot.com/search/label/Altered%20Books?updated-max=2013-11-29T16:24:00-07:00&max-results=20&start=3&by-date=false
ok i looked i was right it was 9 month gap, i hope all you subbies no your back why dont you do a giveaway to announce you are back and really kicking butt irene xx
My wife and I love his idea. Thank you for sharing. Though my wife did have a few questions and asked me to ask you. What material did you use to make the shelves in the drawers? Also, what technique did you use to line the drawers with paper, especially around the sides? Lastly, did you use paper or ink on the bottom of the drawers or did you just leave them as they won't be seen? I hope you can help with these questions. Thank you so much and can't wait to see more of your creations.
Thanks. I used chipboard for the shelves in the drawers. I measured the width of the sides and the length around the outside (a tape measure is good as it is flexible), then cut a strip of paper based on the measurements and glued it in place. In this case I used paper but I inked the corners first. Many times I just ink all of the inside and sometimes the outside using Alcohol Ink as it sticks well to metal. A good paint to use for metal is Metal Patina paint that is made for jewelry. I also use spray paint made for metal which makes the job quick. It really just depends one what you like.
love love this book , I gotta hand it to you , you have sooooooo much patience , it turned out fabulous , you really captured the look of a dragon , so well done , I have to ask when you painted it all white , do you have to do this I was thinking a dark brown or black ??? thank yo so much Pauline x
Thanks! The reason I paint it white is to block out all of the colors and make the surface uniform in color. I chose white because any color you use on top of it will stay true and won't effect the shade of any colors you paint on top. When I started the book I had not decided which colors I would use so I just painted it white until I decided. If you want to use another color it's up to you.
Hi Laura. Could you tell me what tool you used to cut the holes in the Book?, they look very neat and I doubt that I could achieve the same look using a craft knife.
Is it necessary to use a layer of white paint after all the eggshell work is done before the dark brown paint? I am doing an eye and dragonskin on a black cardstock, could I skip the white paint step??
seriouslyscrapping Thanks! I do tons of tutorials on my blog every month. I only video some of them because it takes so much time to put them together. I have another one coming this week and more in Sept and October
P.s.there seems to be a problem with your blog,it kept saying problems loading. I am a new to your channel, and look forward to your next project. Thank you for the inspiration. Ita in Ireland.
Why does the egg membrane removal matter? I have gotten most of it out of my egg suppply but I am sure some has been missed. Do I need to extra careful and perhaps soak my whole supple over again?
You don't want to glue the egg down with the membrane on as over time it will separate from the egg and the pieces might lift and or fall off your project. I think if each piece has some membrane gone you should be ok as you will be gluing down at least some of the piece where there is no membrane.

Laura what lovely texture even if not making a dragon. TFS
Awesome texture. Very inspiring. I noticed the iris of the eye appears to be moving when viewing at an angle. The pupil appears smaller. Spooky. Obviously due to viewing through the thick glossy accents that bends the light. Nice effect it gives.
Fascinating and mesmerizing! Love it. I've got to definitely try this technique. Very cool!

Seriously though, your tutorial is Amazing, reminds me of a cross between the Harry Potter monster book of monsters and the lord of the rings sauron's eye.
Have you considered using a diamond painting drill tool to pick up and apply your eggshells? I think it would work.
No I had not.
WOW that was amazing i would love to try to make it someday it looks so real
Awesome... You do have a lot of patience!!
I'm sooo gonna try the egg shell method out!!!
This is my favorite book that I have seen
This is awesome! I love it! I wonder if the egg shells would work similarly for mermaid scales? I might try that on a mixed media canvas.
Thanks! No doubt it would.

Hi Laura. Could you tell me what tool you used to cut the holes in the Book?, they look very neat and I doubt that I could achieve the same look using a craft knife.
+Jan Webber I use a box cutter with a new blade. It's important that the blade be sharp.
this book is alive!
interesting technique!
This is so freaking cool!!!
Thank you for sharing✌💛☺

The book looks epic and demonic at the same time
WOW STUNNING I CANT BELIEVE NO ONE COMMENTS ON YOUR AMAZING VIDS, HAVENT YOU MADE VIDS REGURLARLY?

Great work!
Looks like something from the restricted section in Hogwarts library.
Your bird is funny & noisy, I think he wants to help you out 😄👁👁🐥🐣
thank you soo much its wonderful
Hi, I am having trouble printing the eye. I get a giant one! Any suggestions?
Patricia if you send me a message through UA-cam or an email from my blog with your email address I'll send it to you.
I did send it through UA-cam but anyway my email is pgrams2011@hotmail.com. I can't get the dragon eye the right size.
I'm currently attempting to print and I'm going through the same enlarged eye.
@@patriciagrams7407 What size or settings did you use? If you don't mind my asking.
Pure genius!
Is that two different books? The eye placement is different on the the book that ends up being black at the end.
It's one book with the eye on each cover back and front.
Brilliant, brilliant 😊
Beautiful and wonderful work. Can I ask you a question? The technique you use can be done on wood?
Thanks! Sure
