    I like the talent tree system idea. But I like the stats build as well.
    Here’s an idea: What if the stats, which unlock different weapons to use already, also unlock different talent trees as you put points in them.
    An example: every 5 stat points in strength unlock the next tier of the strength talent tree. The talent tree would have talents that pertain to weapons that scale with strength.
    This would also, potentially, give a reason to invest stat points in to stats that don’t directly scale your weapon.
    For example: you like some of the talents and interaction in the intelligence tree, but your weapon is a full strength weapon. Right now you would NEVER invest in to intelligence. But maybe there is a great talent in the intelligence tree that you want to incorporate in to your strength build, well now you have reason to put points in to different stats to create a unique strength build!!

      @@leeviplay8984 Right! They could also use plague iquor (spelling?) as a means to obtain more talent points. Say you get only 1 talent points per level but you can turn in plague icor (spelling? :p) to obtain extra talents points. Put a cap on extra talent points obtained through plague eyecore (okay this one I know is wrong) and have an increasing cost as you obtain more talent points. That gives a good use for those items that will eventually become superfluous

      Ugh, I am not a fan of talent trees. That might kill the game for me. My favorite build system is the Souls type build systems, and is ine of the reasons I think this game is so cool.

      I like this idea. Since it solves a couple of other problems simultaneously.
      1. Adds more depth to builds
      2. Means that attributes aren't just pick one and ignore the rest. Currently Strength = dps, Dex = dps, Int = dps, faith = dps
      3. It also means that, if we aren't adding respecing to the game, wasted attribute points aren't totally wasted. They can still be used to unlock a talent in a different tree.

    What a great video, and what great insight!
    I was in serious debt more than 10 years ago. It was so bad that we couldn’t put fuel in our vehicles… and then the crash happened.
    What got us through was our faith in God, and a proper plan to pay off the loans, and credit cards. Now we’re debt free, and can definitely agree with all you said!
    Btw, this game is awesome! I bought it last night after finding your video about patch notes (hearing about Thomas, which sold me completely -how dedicated and genuine he is-), and subscribed to your channel!
    God bless, and keep up the great work. P.S. We have a database support/dev business- we couldn’t have even thought of pursuing this in debt.

    I love Thomas. By the way I also think that having a seperate skill tree would be quite cool. I think this could be integrated via the plague iquor (and level break points).

    Most journalists are ignoring the macro economic factors that has led to a contraction in almost EVERY industry, and the games industry is no exception. High interest rates lead to debt financing becoming more expensive. A studio has way less runway before they go broke unless their revenue vastly exceeds their burn rate of running the studio. Unfortunately, especially in the U.S., we had many years of low interest rates and a tight labor market, so when labor had most of the leverage, employees had certain baseline expectations as far as minimum pay and benefits. The reality is that this relationship between employee and employer has to be a give and take one in order for the studio to remain solvent.
    I honestly wish that more studios would offer a pay cut over a layoff, but I realize that's not a good look and so they'd rather just shut it all down and rebuild. I mean, most studios will give bonuses when a shipped game does really well, but they often will try and maintain those perks when a game doesn't do well, and temporarily debt finance their way forward, gambling on the next title to be one that's a hit. Everyone loves to praise Nintendo for not firing employees, but most don't realize how conservatively they run the company, and what the expectations are from the people that work there.

    movement in mouse and keyboard needs to be improved.. Being able to use the side buttons on the mouse must be added. and being able to always choose to run would also help a lot. When controlling the mouse and keyboard, if the character always turns to the side where the pointer is directed, it would help a lot, this is how many games do it in this style of camera

    Salt and Sanctuary/Sacrifice both have this hybrid stats + talent tree system and its preety good.
    It would fit this game perfectly since you can spec into specific weapon types, armor weight and all that

      Would also love to see an ammo system similar to lords of the fallen and different kinds of ranged weapons (crossbows, pistols, cannons, throwables - which could influence the current granades and bombs).
      Not as restrictive as Lords of The fallen, but similar to the rune energy bar, where you have to hit enemies to get ammo back, or maybe have to reload with a long animation to counter the long range advantages.

    I don't want to see skill trees, I'd prefer they just work on adding new weapons with unique skills. I feel that a skill tree takes way from weapons being really important. It just doesn't mesh with my head canon for a souls game. I'm stuck imagining elden ring with a skills tree and can't make the math work in my mind.

    Loving the art style and everything I know the game isnt done but a skill tree while using stats still would be nice. To choose different play styles with the limited weapon types in general. I mean it's obvious faster weapons are 100x better and better feeling then slow weapons and most of everyone's favorites is big gun big sword whatever I know a lil bit off topic but using a big weapon feels bad right now. I wish the game was a little bit harder but I also chose dex weapons ik ppl with great swords are out not liking the game as much.

    Hi Brian, i m a new sub here. I really like the idea of skill trees and removing weapons’ attribute requirements. I would suggest keeping health, stamina, focus and weight as attributes, and give 1-2 attribute points every level; whereas all the other attributes will be make into separated skill trees and each will increase the effectiveness of certain weapon types, e.g. dex for spear bow daggers and knife etc, while giving some game changing benefits e.g. the faith tree will grant more forgiving parry window and grant ability to execute.

    I like the stat system currently too, but I would also be interested in either incorporating as you mention, or switching to a talent tree system altogether. Part of me is more interested in talent trees than the stat system, feels like they almost need to test a basic version of this and see which is better received. I know that means a lot of work to potentially scrap, but if you're trying to make the best system and go off of feedback, may not be another way.

    What about a tree system within the stats? The more stats you have in one area more access to a skill in a tree? On top of whatever affix you get from gear

    I love the simplicity of the actual stat system and would love to keep it this way. But some kind of passive buffs would be awesome. Probably ichors could do that or something :)

    I'd love to see talent trees enter the equation. Like you, though, I'd like to see them incorporate that into the skill points. Placing points in respective skills unlocks branches of the talent trees that correspond to each skill. (Faith, Str, etc.)
    You could still have builds and weapons that require a dip or a deeper step into each skill. They still grant straight and simple stat bonus, with some prospective passives at set intervals. Then that investment grants access, based on points spent, to talents within that skill. You get the most access and strongest talents if you take the full dip at 42 into the skill investment.
    I have a build where i have a spear that is faith/int. I went 42 int and 26 faith. As the spear is 26/26 req. But i also use the 42 int staff.
    Out of the now 4 max level characters i have, this one character is by far the strongest, even with all the changes they've made. I can fight very effectively, ranging my enemies with the spear and building focus, then switching to my staff and dropping a couple bomb like spells that one/two shot most everything. (Except final boss in crucible)
    Im all for more depth and build options/diversity. The more depth and options they can add, the more life it breathes into the game, IMO.

      They could add a talent system or paragon like system for end game that expands and extends the game by collecting a resource either new or existing to level up your (paragon) tree by killing difficult bosses and completing challenges, and crucibles. Gives you something structured to grind for that isn't reliant 100% on bad rng mechanics. And when enough effort is put into it at set, intervals would grant strong, unique abilities, passives, and augments to existing talents or abilities.

    @Gingerprimegaming I wanted your thoughts on skill trees..Have you ever played kingdoms of Amalur. They had a unique hybrid skill point/tree system. They even had classes that specialized in equally spread skill points called jack of all trades. I think a hybrid level up system like that could be fun

    God I hope they don't change the way stats and weapons work. One of the reasons I love Dark Souls and related games is because of the build system. I hate skill trees and such. I just don't get any excitement over skills in a skill tree.

Haha.. awesome things by devs. We need respec asap, I have 12 small (20 items each) chests full of gear that I want to try, I don't want to upgrade before I tried them, can't lvl up characters that fast so I'm stuck on strength/dex build with tons of equipment that I can't try. Add respect guy pleaseeee :) :)

    I’d like level 50 to be max level and talents to start once you hit the level cap. Kinda how Diablo had level cap then post that you had extra stats - but make it an end game talent tree once they find out the level cap.. would make the end game way more fun

    Love the thought of talent trees, anything that adds build depth and variety can only be good imo ! However ..it could be my inexperience with EA's..but am I the only one that finds it surprising and slightly disturbing that something so core to game design and gameplay is still being talked about after ea release?

    Why do we need a skill tree, that is what runes are for. I like it just how it is. I much prefer an option to just respect my points instead of having to take hours to build up a new character to try a cool weapon I found.

    It’s funny how Moon studios was a nightmare and was ousted by MS for having well documented work culture. Ironic they say they didn’t want to get acquired when no one wanted them at that time.

    They said that the content we have already is act 1, have they mentioned how many acts will there be in the final version? Also on talent trees, right now in this game you don't have any skills, unlike diablo clone games, you get your skills from your gear, which is fine, so how are talents going to complement that? Right now this game is different from all the diablo clones, and that is one of its strengths, I would not like to see it become a diablo clone lile so many other games.

    How about running at more than 40FPS on a PC that runs Elden Ring at 60FPS. I have put the game down till it can run at a decent pace without blowing up my fans even if running on low settings...

      Have you trying played around with different weapons? I was having a lot of trouble with him with sword and daggers, but when I switched to claymore and light weight (shed that heavy armor) I was able to get him after just a few tries. Despite the look, this is a Soulslike. If you don’t enjoy that kind of combat, you probably won’t like this. It’s pretty sticking difficult but rewarding once you figure it out.

      You can start new realms and play your existing character. Farm more gear and level up a lot first..I'm not a great player so that's what I did. The first boss became a lot easier after a bit of realm pre farming. Most souls like games allow this..thats why although many say souls like games are hard..they arent really if you are prepared to grind and pre farm.

      What level are you? If you skipped areas you are probably under leveled. If still having problems farm on another realm as previous comment suggested to increase your level then it will be easy.

      Farming new realms to level up a bit & get some decent weapons/armor before facing the first boss will help you a lot.
      But the most important advice I could give you for such “hard” souls-like games is about fighting tactics:
      Never run all in towards the enemies spamming the attack & the dodge buttons. The name of the game is “stamina & i-frames management”.
      Be patient, and stay relatively close to the enemy, so that whenever you get an opportunity to hit them you don’t have a huge distance to close.
      Use your dodges wisely to avoid getting damage. They provide you with i-frames during which you are practically invincible (even though visually their weapon looks like it hits you / you get no damage during the milliseconds the i-frames are active).
      Don’t get greedy with your attacks. One or two hits and then dodge, waiting for your next opportunity to damage the enemy.
      The more you level up, the more of a stamina pool you can allocate to have bigger windows of opportunity to apply hits.
      And most importantly: Study your enemy’s moveset. There’s a predefined rhythm to all their attacks.
      In all soul-like games, when I first encounter a new boss, my strat is to not try to kill him. I just “dance with him” trying to avoid his hits with correctly timed dodges. This is the “studying your enemy” I’m talking about.
      It totally gives you the ultimate satisfaction when you learn your enemies and not only beat them, but do it like a choreography!

    I will quit playing this game if it moves to a talent tree. It’s the Soulslike aspect that keeps me playing and just ONE step away from that part of the equation and I’m back to playing Elden Ring. It’s already WAY too much like an isometric ARPG for my taste.

      Never played deathloop, but ghostwire really wasn't that bad. It got some weird hate on launch, but I played through it finally about 2 months ago, I enjoyed it.
