Im new to your channel and quickly realized I needed to start at the beginning, but did watch several of your newest videos before that. You have changed so much. Accents are gone, and your demeanor on camera is so much more polished. Still, I love that you vlogged from day one. I would love you to create a video(s) explaining how you first decided to do this, how it changed from one year to four, how you financed it, and anything else that would be helpful to dreamers.
OHMYGOD You went to Din Tai Fung without even realizing it?!?!?!?! That is by far the best Soup Dumpling restaurant in the world!!! There are locations throughout Asia, and one in L.A.... so jealous!
Din Tai Fung is a highly rated dumpling chain and is very popular and recommended for dumplings, but it's not an authentic Hong Kong dim sum experience. It's a Taiwanese chain renowned for their soup dumplings. They also have branches in the US. Nothing wrong with the restaurant; it is excellent in its own category, and the service is superb too.
I found this channel in the last few months & I’m just starting to watch some of their first videos! It is so interesting to me how Kara has seemed to have the same accent mostly across the board (with exception here and there or specific words!) but throughout their videos Nate’s accent has gotten less southern & more universal in a sense! Watching them in backwards order so to speak I’ve heard both their accents show after thinking they didn’t have as strong of a TN accent originally. Love the videos of course even the early ones are great!! 😌
To be very honest, I personally think your blogs are extremely interesting and very well made. You really deserve a lot more subscribers. Keep up the good work so Happy & Safe Travels.
tea is usually count per heads (around $6-10), then you can drink as many as you want. Ask them to refill the tea pot if you finished! The refill is free.
Ding Tai Fung is one of my favorite restaurants in Taiwan! Usually it's the first or second place I got eat when I go back. You should have gotten the pork soup dumplings. That's what they are most famous for. Those have the soup inside. The staff is always attentive as well in Taiwan.
Kara and Nate going to Din Tai Fung, one of the fanciest and most well-known restaurants in all of Asia, is absolutely hilarious to me. And they had no idea haha
I found this video in 2017 and you guys helped me plan my HK trip later that year! I’m so stoked you guys reached a million subscribers. Your content is just awesome and sincere that it was inevitable it would happen. Anyways happy travels you two and please be safe out there. Oh btw, I ate at that same Din Tai Fung location and I was getting pissed looking for it! The building outside is a high end mall and there’s no signs of the restaurant whatsoever! 😂
Hey Kara and Nate :D I totally agree about going to grocery stores in different countries. I think my favourite so far was Carrefour in Paris - 1. They had really giant strawberries which I had for breakfast and 2. The cashier was cute lol x
We loooove grocery shopping in other countries! And trying to guess what the items or flavors are based on the images on the package is always fun. We also kind of unintentionally started trying Mexican food in different places... so far, favorite has been in Paris of all places.
Oh my God, your trip to Hong Kong looks exactly like mine. We were also caught by surprise by the cold weather, the excess of cooling systems and the non-existense of heaters :D I think people who go to Hong Kong are often left surprised by the way the city looks like in real life, while only its luxurious parts, the skyscrapers and the lights are being promoted worldwide. It's an interesting place to explore life, to find what you should be thankful for and how people in a place like this struggle everyday. It's also a place that can teach you how to become a better traveller, since many things are so compicated. I love your vlogs! Stay possitive! :)
I love watching your videos. I scrolled through your videos to see if there was a hong Kong one. I lived there for a year and I loved seeing places that were familiar.
haha that was a lion dance, with two people supporting the lion. in a dragon dance, there are way more people using poles to support the dragon, and the dragon chases after a ball. and you probably chanced upon it because chinese new year was around the corner (:
Nate I definitely wouldn’t beat myself up when you take Kara to a fancy restaurant. You both well deserve it. Service was awesome food was delicious and you’re spending it with the one you love no complaints ❤️❤️🙏🙏😇😇😁😁🤩🤩🥘
I love living vicariously through you two wonderful folks! Thank you so much for sharing your travels for us that have not had the time or ability to do this! This is the next best thing!!
Recognized Tsim Sha Tsui station from our travels in late 2018. We never experienced subway crowds like you did. Brought back good memories of visiting Hong Kong!
The dumpling you had was a jiao zi which is boiled so does not haves any broth inside. the one you saw on the picture was a bao zi a different type of dumpling with more moisture inside because they are sometimes steamed
haha... i am from hk and it's quite interesting to watch this vlog the soup didn't come out from ur dumpling because the instructions are meant for a specific type of dumplings (not the kind which you have ordered), but it was good that you have enjoyed it and admiralty station is the WORST station to be at during rush hour... blahaha... u probably should have eaten at the Ding Tai Fung at causeway bay before the race
Hey :-) I am from Germany and also stay in Hong Kong atm and I upload one video per Week. If you are interested have a look to my channel :-) In my videos I speak in german (not that much) but I have english subtitles. See you :-)
You guys just proved to my husband why I always take my Eddie Bauer Packable Jacket with me when we travel. It folds up super tiny and I have a "down" jacket when I need it. Win/Win And for the record - yes I am binge watching on a Friday night! :-)
It's depends what part of Hong Kong you're at ... Just like many other countries , Some areas are cleaner then the others !! Did you tried to go visit to these places as the following : 1 - HK Victoria Harbor Front, Shau Kai Wan - Quarry Bay Promenade. 2 - HK Nathan Road. 3 - HK Park, HK Zoological & Botanical Gardens ? These place are much cleaner & you'll love it !!!
so i found this video after a long time missing hong kong bubble waffles. i genuinely smiled when i saw kara and nate getting them as it is a personal must for me whenever i visit my home away from home. also: 'oh wow, those are very eggy' yup, just what i remember, just as its supposed to be 'your dumpling doesn't look like the one in the picture' ah yes, i see how confusing the menus and translations can be- my parents always translated for me :) OH MY PLEASEEE i saw the octopus cards and this one ad on the wall of the mtr station and i got INSTANT flashbacks... this video is going to hit the feels HARD. updating this comment 4 seconds later because ADMIRALTY STATION AHHHHHHH and some lady had the same glasses as my aunt this made my day. especially since i could understand some of the local chatter - thanks!
Ding Tai Fung is a famous taiwanese restaurant that has branches in hongkong and singapore. The instructions you saw were for the xiao long baos(small dragon buns/dumplings). That is the quintessential product that people order whenever they are there. Do try it next time but watch out for the hot broth inside!
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it yet, so I shall… I also imagine that you’ve learned this in all your travels by now, but if you haven’t… in Chinese culture it is bad luck to have your tea cup empty! Even when you finish the meal and leave the table, it is expected that your tea cup be full. It signifies abundance and fruitfulness. If you don’t want any more tea, it’s best to just leave the cup full, because it will get refilled every time 🍵 it’s something I learned at a young age from my grandmother
I love to shop like a local... buying from supermarkets and markets is cheaper than eating out all the time. My husband and I are going to Hong Kong in September. I can't wait!
You guys are adorable! Hope you enjoyed our city haha ;) and I agree with you guys, Admiralty MTR station is insanely busy!! Hope you guys continue to have wonderful travels :)
Yes, everything in Hong Kong is very expensive but it is quite an amazing city, truly a global city. Din Tai Fung is a Taiwan-based dim sum chain. You should have gone to Tim Ho Wan, Hong Kong's home-grown hole-in-the-wall dim sum chain and became popular in 2010 when it was awarded a Michelin star, thus becoming the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world. Tim Ho Wan can now be found in the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia and New York.
I am watching the Hong Kong videos, and you guys had a completely different experience than I had when I was there. We were in causaway bay, I found it everything around do rich and fancy with huge bank buildings, hidden parties and amazing food, but yes really expensive.
I travel alone and never eat in restaurants. In Rome my hotel was next to a grocery where I bought a variety of Italian meats and snacks for my dinner. Always interesting. In NYC its the street venders!
What a good idea to go see the horse racing! As an avid equestrian, I love horse racing! The view from the track was really cool too. I'll definitely have to check it out when I come to HK.
i would like to bring you guys to travel more local shop & culture of Hong Kong, if you two are going to Hong Kong again. That will be a definitely different experiences for sure :D
And for the dumpling.. you chose the most expensive one in Hong Kong which is.. a local Hong Kong people won't go there ... i really want to share you a different Hong Kong if you want
I'm so glad you guys have grown up. If I watched you at this point, I would have been a true hater. The 1st World Complaints are strong with these youngsters.
Totally agree about always checking out grocery stores. Check out the aisles of hair in Africa. By the way you'll need your own toilet paper! Too bad you didn't get the soup dumplings!!!!
The gates were put in the mtr because people were getting pushed onto the tracks. So interesting. The guys next to you at the tracks are cheering for their numbers to win most vigorously. Next time get the soup dumplings! But there are cheaper places haha. I would also give the original flavour of the egg balls (or egg waffles) - so much better. Tastes more like the thin crepes from the Scandinavian countries. But crunchy. Try out some "cha chaan teng" next time! Chinese fusion :) or the food courts at the top of some wet markets :) good food good price.
+ASURAN24 I don't think it needs to upgrade! I did not mean to sound like HK needed to improve. I like the craziness and neon signs and DELICIOUS dumplings and buns as much as clean cut Singapore ;)
Nothing beats HK MTR. Efficient, safe and fast though very crowded during rush hours. Their rush hours last long. And the train won't move if somebody stands too close to the door or steps on the marked line on the train floor. Stepping on or beyond the marked line means that the person is at risk and the sensor alerts the system and the door would not close to allow the people inside to adjust themselves.
Sorry to hear that, but if you go to places like Cityplaza or pacific place where the fancy things come from, they won't be such messy places. I also feel that way as well. My mom works near The One as well. Nope, rush hour is way busier, you have to wait about 10-20 minutes for a train in Admidralty. There were only dragon performances because it was Chinese new year.
"our coffee addiction is getting a little expensive, but if it keeps her happy..." awwww cutest thing ever
Agreed! You get a cultural experience when you visit a local grocery. I esp. like to look for the three C's chocolate, coffee, and cheese🌏
"Our coffee addiction is getting a little expensive..but if it keeps her happy..." AWWW Nate you are so sweet
Awww!
Nate: “but if it keeps her happy”
Such a sweetheart!
You guys are a match made in heaven. 💕
Its hilarious seeing the progression of Kara' s mood before eating, finding some food and after eating. 😂

Michelle Green din tai Fung in the US is nothing compared to the ones in Asia. There are definitely better xlb places in Hong kong
jasmine congdon The Din Tai Fung in Dubai is even better then the one in Taiwan
I love going to the ones in Seattle area
But they didn't even get xiolongbao!
I go in LA all the time I didn’t even realize they have one in HK

CNVideos should go to Taiwan Din Tai Fung rather than HK.....all chefs went back to Taiwan many yrs ago....
They said some places were “too authentic” for them :/

original eggballs are the best. Don't always go for the fancy flavours.
+happipooh good to know! Next time....

i was like: whyyyyyyy whyyyy chocolate?????? oh god no its not gonna be good
@@solarin9756 chocolate egg balls are so good
I really just like finding the shacks and buying the original flavour because it tastes like batter it is so good
I LOVE exploring grocery stores in other countries too. So fun!
Loved the shots of the race with all of the HK high-rises in the background.
From HkK and found this vlog kinda funny and interesting just because of how clueless you guys seemed compared to what I’m used too
Binge watching all your videos from the beginning so I can live through your experiences while I'm stuck in isolation from the pandemic. Thank you! ❤️
I'm starting over too!! Illinois quarantine here!
@@SSDGM26.2 woohoo! FL quarantine but grew up in IL. Stay safe!
Nate looks kinda like Christiano Ronaldo.
+Alex Man haha I've hear that a time or two

ikr he does look like cristiano OMG 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
My thoughts exactly... or even more like a mixture between Ronaldo and James Franco ;)

I'm not a fan of horse racing.. So many poor horses die.. Its heart breaking.. Xx
louisecooper81 In my country, we eat horses.
Yes but most don’t die and get a great life
Great job guys. Love Hong Kong, my favorite City, down to earth and real.
I do that grocery stall at every city too, I feel like they some of the best places for food culture.

They really didn’t seem to do much research and were looking for reviews in English. I like their channel but this HK one sucks.

Din tai fung is all over Southern California!! I literally go there all the time, it’s so good!
You're absolutely right. HK's MTR is NOT fun at rush hours esp at Admiralty. admmiralty's a no go zone for us Hongkies between 8-9am and 6-730pm.
