It’s always good to have an open mind and explore everything GarageBand has to offer..we musicians need not limit ourselves to personal taste..I for one was only using the beat sequencer but now am exploring the rest of the drums..thanks again Pete..another very helpful tutorial..you the man 😎
Cheers Bruce. Yes, as soon as you say “I’m. It trying that” you really are limiting yourself aren’t you? It’s always worth trying new and different things as you never know what will work for you.
These drum tutorials have been helpful. Thank u
Very welcome my friend.
Great explanation and demo of how all the drummer options are in GB. As always, great job Pete.
👍😎
Another awesome video Pete. Thanks for all you do!!
Cheers my friend.
There is so much that I have learned from your tutorials..probably going on about 2 years now..thanks again and again Pete
Cheers Bruce.
Thanks for the reminder about the “merge recordings on” feature which I had forgotten about. That’s so awesome 👏
It’s a super handy one isn’t it??
Brilliant video Pete. Really needed this one. Have applied most of what you have demonstrated to latest song ‘The Next Step’. Thanks once again. The Doc 🥕🥕🥕

you seem very nice and fun to be around . cheers
Thanks my friend.
Awesome video and tips Pete, velocity was driving me mad before I understood what it actually meant.
Noice!! Glad to help.
Bravo Pete!

@@PeteJohnsMusic I have been a subscriber and get your notifications regularly. Pete you should get an Award from UA-cam for friendly and accurate information on your channel!
12:33 Yeah I have to always remember that loops and freshly merged tracks are 10 times louder than everything else by default 😂
Should make a memory rhyme for that... “If the track is blue it may startle you”
Haha!!!! Love it.
sometimes i wish we could just kick it and talk about music and shit . i could use a friend these days . cheers.

If you tap two fingers on one of the drum pads, keep your fingers on it, it will keep playing. Then moving your fingers closer or further away, it effects the speed. Moving up or down, controls the volume. I made a short video on my page with a few tips about GarageBand. I mentioned you in the description too.
Yeah nice! It’s a good tip for sure that I have covered but always seem to forget!!
@@PeteJohnsMusic just wish with the snare, it would go to a full drum roll.
I also wish they had a brush kit, for lighter music.
thanks

I love GBs drum sequence. I think it’s among the best ones in iOS. Even from the paid auv3s I have I prefer GB’s. And for drum samplers (which GB doesn’t have) I have a bunch of good paid ones, but I use DawnBeats (free version)the most and just export it into gb.
Nice one.
Kind of a bummer you can’t just customize each individual drum pad for the acoustic kit so you can play your customized kit to sound better live. For instance, there should be an option for each drum component to tweak the settings as in volume distortion reverb echo all of that stuff. Wish you could do that and then save the settings to a kit so you can open it and play it with all the customized sounds live. Also, should be able to mix and match drum parts from all different drum kits for instants. You should be able to take the snare sound from one kit and put it into another kit This goes for all the other parts of the drums like base and symbols should be able to mix match all of the kids into one customized kit to your liking. (I’ve always been big on mobile drumming apps where are you tap the drums and play along to songs on your phone and making little drum covers. So this would be very beneficial for me and would make a lot of sense in general)
Yeah it’s pretty good but you’re right - there’s a lot of room for improvement in this stuff.
Is it possible to auto randomize the beats so I can just live jam improvisations ? I don’t have the patience to hash out beats for a whole song. i just want to press a couple buttons and start jamming on guitar & singing. There’s gotta be a program for this, perhaps even an AI drummer for live jams.
Hey there. The Drummer option is pretty good for this - ua-cam.com/video/ueEaHLsRLPs/v-deo.html&feature=shares. You might also want to check out the Beat Sequencer that has a little dice icon for a random drum beat - ua-cam.com/video/6hkIZgbBlpo/v-deo.html&feature=shares
Hi John.
How can I create my own drum loops and use them for future songs? I’ve been using the apple loops but I’d like to create my own loops. Thank you!
Hey there. Just crate a GarageBand project and then export as a WAV file, then you can bring it back in as a loop. I show a similar process for guitar loops in this video - ua-cam.com/video/0O3UczxtkqU/v-deo.html
Hey Pete, I’ve created a tune only using Bass guitars and synths... Wonder if I can create a tune only using drums? Good show, as always.
Hmmmm..... now THAT could be a challenge.
Can you please explain why I can't paste the start of a drum beat on the second or third beat of a bar without it automatically shifting the preprogrammed beat. Example: when I paste a 4 beat pattern that has a crash cymbal on the first beat into the timeline on the second or third beat of a bar it shifts the crash. Perhaps there's something to turn off to stop that from occurring?? Regards
Sounds like you’re using Drummer. It will try to “help” you by shifting the beats. You’ll need to either use merge to make it an audio track, or use this trick to change the Drummer to a MIDI track. ua-cam.com/video/mm9ZxG_v3K0/v-deo.html&feature=shares
Hi Pete! So I like to use my own drum kit when recording, I have them all mic’d into an 8 channel preamp then into two mixers for left n right and plugged into the 1 + 2 channels on garage band. Everything records but I’m not getting the punch that I’d like. I’ve been playing around with the compression, attack,, track pan, release and so on, close but no cigar. Any suggestions will be great. Thanks Pete for all you give us... steve
Hey Steve. So I have. A heap of drum videos that might help you from my recent videos. You’re probably looking for some more aggressive compression like the RoughRider3 or FAC Maxima plugins. This video playlist might help. ua-cam.com/play/PLc8Xg_23Wa570k6K17c_Kd9tT-FRGZoCH.html
Hey thanks so much Pete!!!
Hi Pete, I’m struggling to get good drum endings ie big crashes or fast intricate cymbal outro runs. Do you have a video you can point me to? Cheers, Con
Hey Con. So, I tend to lean on a combo of Drummer and Drums for this. ua-cam.com/video/OonDrNKYOXs/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks Pete, I went into acoustic drums and just did it manually. I thought it might be automatic because I used to use Real Drummer in GB for Mac and it has all the categories like fills rhythms and endings but this is fine. Cheers from Port Macquarie!
If you play drums manually in iphone ios Garageband, how do you quantize drum part after recording, so drums are all in perfect time - if some of the drum part is not in perfect time during recording? In other words, is there a way of getting manually played drum part in perfect timing without having to manually adjust each element of drum part? I believe this is called quantizing. Thank you.
Yes, you can use quantization to achieve this. ua-cam.com/video/765PEUIV76g/v-deo.html&feature=shares
Its almost the same as Logic pro drummer.
Amazing, imagine in the future all music create by AI like this 😵
Pretty darn cool isn’t it?
Hey Pete. This is a little of topic of the video, but are you gonna make a new album since “Self(ish) Aware” really enjoyed that album. From Denmark 🇩🇰
Thanks so much for to the support. Yes I have two EPs that I’ve released since then - “Maybe” and “Own Battle”. You can check out all my music at petejohns.com
@@PeteJohnsMusic YES! Im gonna listen to them right now!😀👍
Oh yeah the note repeat in the beat sequencer..slipknot

De lujo, haga vídeos con subtítulos en español
Hello! Unfortunately I only have English subtitles but my course on GarageBand does have Spanish subtitles. studiolivetoday.com/courses
I found it , I requested this and Covid ……..
🤦🏻♂️
Wow thats pretty cool. But how you do the panning of the Drums when all Drums are is recorded on the same Track?
You’d need to separate them using this method - ua-cam.com/video/K7jEYGL2MfM/v-deo.html
I had no clue about the velocity settings for drums. 😂 Thank You!!
I like to separate all of my drums so each has its own track-something a collaborator asked for to make his mixing job easier. I found when I do this it also allows me to better hone in on small mistakes. Do you have a manual drums mix tutorial with the drums separated like this?
Hey there. So I haven’t done a full drums mixing tutorial but there are a couple of key things I recommend which I’ll link below.

@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank You! : )
Can we turn drums into piano
Not that I’m aware of?

@@PeteJohnsMusic ok thank you
Yo
Yo yo
Velocity always off. First things I always do with drums is turn the quantization and velocity sensitivity off.
Right?!?!
