    Also, trimming the drum into small parts and then adjusting each one gives them a more realistic feel. So if you have an 8 bar section that’s essentially the same beat chop it into 8 parts and then put the velocity or the complexity up slightly. Only small changes make a massive difference!

      @@TheBandGuide so if you want toms _and_ cymbals then duplicate the track and on the mixer turn off everything but the drum part you want to add and then mix that in with the other drums you have. Not sure if I make sense 😂

    Colin - what a wonderful series. You start your theme song off with a drum roll. Thats exactly what I'm trying to learn how to do - isolate a drum roll to paste in before my Logan (my fave) retro rock pattern.

    I’m also a Kyle fan!
    Also - I like to create a smaller region (.5 - 1 measure) within the larger region and crank up the fill knob for a cool 1 bar fill.

    Cheers Colin...You may well cover these points later..... but I've found that if you start with a scratch track or say a bass track you can elect to follow that track and the drummer will tie in well with what you have already composed. The other one to help with sections and frill defaults is to put together an arrangement track identifying the parts of the song and when you select a drummer track it has a good attempt at fitting in with your designated arrangement and follows those sections
    (probably not as well as tailored sections but gets you started well)

      Yes! That’s a good point, Tim! I find it can be hit or miss but when it gets it right, it’s pretty amazing

  • @johnvender

    As powerful as they are I rarely use the drum parts GarageBand generates, I generally roll my own with each part of the kit on its own track. Great thing about that is that I can process each part of the kit individually and generally at the end choose the kit for each drums track that sits best in the mix. Works for me I guess mostly because my philosophy when it comes to drums is very much KISS. One problem I've found with the track for each part of the kit is in the rare situation of changing the key of the project with parts already done having to go through all the drum kit parts and moving them back to the notes correct for that part of the kit. Would be great to have a "drum kit part" checkbox on each track that stops key change moving the notes for the checked tracks.

    I recently began using samples to make my own instruments through the "Plug-ins>AUInstruments>Apple>AU Sampler" function and it feels like any project I do this on becomes ruined.
    When opening project which uses samples, a message box will say
    "An Audio Unit plug-in reported a problem which might cause the system to become unstable. Please quit and restart GarageBand."
    The two options given are "Quit" and "Recover". If I click "quit" GarageBand will quit and show me the same message box again when I reopen it, repeat ad infinitum. If I click "recover" the app will look fine but any tracks which have sampled audio in them are silent while they should be playing. Conversely, other tracks with garageband's built in instruments will play even when muted. The volume display for these muted tracks will display nothing, as though they are not playing, and yet the track will play.
    This will go on working in this way for a while until suddenly a REALLY loud, startling "boop" noise is made. It doesn't matter what setting my Macbook's speakers are on, the noise will be VERY loud and painful if I'm wearing headphones.
    What is going on here? I am completely lost. Sampling new instruments using small bits of audio seems like something any piece of audio software should be capable of and yet GarageBand seems to not be able to cope. Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? Do I need to just quit on garageband and get a better bit of software? If so are there any recommendations?

    Thank you. Up till now all I have been doing is taking the drum tracks from the library and copying and pasting them in and using the fills. This might finally get me using the GB drummer to make more realistic drums. Question: often in my songs I might use a rest with a crash cymbal in certain sections and also ending a song with them. Do you have a GB Drummer hack for that?

    • @Theactivepsychos
      @Theactivepsychos 2 роки тому +1

      Trim the drums parts into as small segments as you can so you can make each one slightly different.

    I would like to lay out drum noises that GO WITH the timing changes in MY song...like I want to be able to put the drum noises WHERE I WANT THEM...is that something that can be done? If all I get is a continuous beat at a certain tempo, I may as well just record them from UA-cam, correct? I HATE the confusing useless drums on GarageBand.

    • @iggyplayedguitar982
      @iggyplayedguitar982 Рік тому

      I like to start with the garageband drummer, find a beat that's close to what I want, then copy and paste it to an instrument track where you can move around individual notes exactly where you want them. Usually it's just snare and kick that I want to move, or just delete some notes for a pause. The garageband drummer usually does a lot of cool extra stuff that I wouldn't have thought to program myself.

  • @Theactivepsychos
