I just finished The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year and it was such a fun cozy holiday mystery! I loved that the mystery and humor where the main theme with romance as a side plot! 🎄🎄🎄
I love lists like this because I enjoy reading dark holiday themed books at this time of year. I will put this list in my Nov - Dec reads for next year. TY!! Happy Holidaze and look forward to your 2025 recommendations!
After watching this video I downloaded The Christmas Jigsaw Murders audiobook. Sounds like the perfect accompaniment to my new book-themed puzzle. Thanks!
I love seasonal holiday horror/dark thrillers, so this list was pretty helpful! I’m currently reading NOS4A2 and The Christmas Murder Game and, so far, enjoying both!
I am currently reading The Winter Spirits - it's a short story collection centered around winter/Christmas full of dark gothic tales. So far, I am really enjoying it - some of the stories really feel like classic gothic stories and they've all managed to keep my attention so far. I'd recommend checking it out :) Merry Christmas (in Germany, we celebrate Christmas tonight, rather than tomorrow morning ;-)) Edit: If you want something really over the top chritsmassy, with lots of action and dry humor and an interesting kind of horror element, you should read Night of the Living Elves by Brian Asman. I read it last year around Christmas and had so much fun with it :D
I didn’t pursue much in the holiday horror / thriller genre this year. Will try better next year! Currently reading The Wedding People and having a good time so far! 🥂 Happy Holidays Rachel!!
I just put down 25 Days...the first half was really good but then it went south for me. I thought I had a winner on my hands, as the chapters were written advent calendar style. I'm so bummed! Next on my list are The Visitor and My Darling Girl, but I just bought a bunch of winter horror, too, that I'm itching to read, lol! Great video! ***Edited to say I found a wintry read set in BC (I think that setting is right up your alley?) Claw, by Katie Berry. I might even check it out!
I also read Cold Snap after seeing it on display at my library- it was alright, not one I'd recommend to many but it was at least a quick read. Frozen River looks great for the winter season! As for this month, I just finished The Family Game and picked up Hercule Poirot's Christmas- murder mysteries/thrillers are fun this time of year especially when they have a festive twist on them! :)
I’m reading The Dinner by Herman Koch which you’ve probably read or at least heard of. Really wish I’d read it when it first came out as it reads like a minor classic now. Guess it’s more like tragedy than actual horror but for someone who is a parent which I am not the story could truly be considered horrible if it were not fiction. Be well and Merry Xmas.⚛❤
Waiting on Claw by Katie Berry, my daughter is holding it hostage until Christmas 😂🤦♀️ In the meantime I'm catching up on the newest In Death by JD Robb. Happy Holidays Rachel!❤️📚💚
Completely non-christmasy I started "The servant of the underworld" which is an Aztec fantasy mixed with murder mystery. Weird enough it's a French author who writes in English so I started it n French translation from library but as it's a heavy brick I got it in English for my Kindle for the travelling. I'm at the beginning but I really enjoy it.
I'm over half way trough first volume of Murdle, I'm not sure if I would be capable to concentrate on solving the puzzle and listening to another one but I'm not saying I won't try.
Time to get into my Winter Horror TBR list. Sorry, none of these will be on it since I picked them out already. Including but not limited to Misery, S. KIng, Dead of Winter, D. Coates, The Terror, D. Simmons. Thanks again, always like your videos.
I wonder if you could do a review on exceptionally high literary level books. Personally, I am primarily interested in science fiction (not horror) but I suppose it could be anything. Edgar Allan Poe comes to mind as an example but maybe something more modern. What is your take on that?
I can't think of any Christmas themed fiction I have read. The actual St. Nicholas punched someone at the Council of Nicaea ... I always thought he could make a good character in a story.
The Frozen River is a great historical fiction book!
Reading a book called In Memorium right now. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Agreed!
5:00 Tananarive Due is currently writing an expanded novel version of her story in this collection!
Oo cool!
Frozen River sounds so good. Added to my TBR for sure. Thanks for the hits and misses for you for the holiday season.
I hope you enjoy it
Brilliant recommendations Happy festavus !!
My CR is Krampus and its a fun wild ride!
Yes!
Love seeing these recommendations for holiday reading. The Christmas Jigsaw Murders sounds very interesting. 🎄🎅🗡📚
Look forward to our holiday reading!

Oh perfect!
@ It’s delightful. Happy holidays. 🎄
I went into The Frozen River blind and I loved it!

NOS4A2 is always a good choice
🎅🎄🎁 Enjoy the holidays.
I really enjoyed The Christmas Guest by Peter Swanson and Christmas Presents by Lisa Unger. Both were quick reads.
I need to check out Christmas Guest
@TheShadesofOrange I think you would enjoy it.

I'm half way through Snowblind, and The frozen river is next on my winter tbr. 😊
Nice!

Ooo I do appreciate that rec. Thanks
More dark Christmas books!!!😀

Agreed re Cold Snap
I hope you have a good Christmas.
You too!
I'm currently reading Christmas and Other Horrors, I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm only four stories in.
Nice!
I wonder if you would like Kingdom of Sweets? It’s marketed as fantasy but if definitely has some strong horror elements imo
I haven't even heard of it

Ooo fun! I need to get back to Murdle this week

You have some great ones on your list
I read Perfect Shot by Steve Urszenyi now. It has nothing to do with Christmas but it is an excellent spy thriller.
Nice

Reading Candy Cain kills and it sleighs 🛷 lol
