Thanks for the list. Because I think you like to look up books here are my top 5 new (newish?) horror books of the past year: The Unmothers by Leslie J. Anderson, Diavola by Jennifer Marie Thorne, Lost Man's Lane by Scott Carson, Cold by Drew Drew Hayden Taylor, and When Ghosts Call Us Home by Katya de Becerra.
My favorite horror novels this year were The Haunting of Hill House and My Best Friend's Exorcism. I will be definitely picking up more by Jackson and probably Hendrix, too.
Thank you so much for making this channel, Olly. I've got fantastic recommendations from you all year. I too thought All the Fiends of Hell one of the best novels I've ever read, made only more heartbreaking that it was all set in Devon, my old home. I've added a couple to my tbr list from this video! Have a great Christmas. Hope you get some lovely books in your pressies...
I stumbled across your review of "Thor" a couple months ago. I was actually able to find a copy in a used bookstore in Golden, CO. It might be my favorite horror I've read this year. I loved that book. You had mentioned in the review a plot hole we would stumble across that was very obvious. You are correct, that did take me out of the story for a moment. But it was a fun book and I really enjoyed it.
Totally agree with you about All the Fiends of Hell - my favorite horror this year too. I also loved Cruel Nature and wished that had been around when I was a kid! Probably more age appropriate than the Stephen King books I read when I was 8.
Thank you Olly, i was really looking forward for this! I read so much books already from your recommendations and did not regret one of it! You have an excellent taste of horror my friend :) I appreciate your channel very much and love the way you talk about the books, one can really feel your passion for horror and reading in general. I really like that, please keep going and stay as you are :) All the best Wishes for 2025 and Greetings from Austria - Cheerio!
All these books sound fantastic, Olly! 👍 I’m especially interested in reading ‘The Witnesses Are Gone’ (I love horror stories relating to cursed films and found footage) and ‘Letters to the Purple Satin Killer.’ I also had to immediately search out ‘Eat Them Alive’ and was incredibly disappointed (but not surprised) to see a second-hand copy of the book for sale on Amazon for over £200! 😔🥵 My favourite horror read of 2024 was ‘The Doll Who Ate His Mother’ by Ramsey Campbell.
Kids woke us up to open whatever Santa delivered overnight, and then promptly disappeared to play with their new things, sounds like Mario got a good representation this year. Anyways one of the presents I received was all the fiends of hell by Adam Nevill. Loved your list, wrote down some titles to get. Have a great Xmas.
I've read Maynard's House, by Herman Raucher earlier this year, & enjoyed it - Raucher made his name as best selling author of general fiction, so I was really surprised when I found out he also wrote a horror novel, & wasted no time in picking up a copy -: very strange ending which didn't go where I expected it to go - funny dialogue as well. I haven't read Eat Them Alive, but I have read quite a few creepy/crawly type horror books from the same era (70s & 80s) & many of them were surprisingly well written & entertaining. All the Fiends of Hell sounds great, & I'm looking forward to reading it in 2025.
I read a lot more fantasy than horror this year. Malazan is like a million pages 😅. My favorite horror was Rest Stop, great change of pace. Reading Mary right now; thanks for introducing me to Nat Cassidy!
I read “Rest Stop” right after it came out. Overall I did like it because it truly scared me and made me uncomfortable which I guess is the ultimate goal of a horror novel. As a lover of horror since I was a pre-teen (nearly 30 years now) I don’t scare that easily anymore and this book genuinely freaked me out more than once! I did feel it was a bit too gruesome at times and I would say it’s the closest to extreme horror that I’ve ever read. I felt more like I was watching a disturbing horror movie than reading a book in many scenes. I am anxious to read Grady Hendrix’s new book and I also have “Maynard’s House” on my list.
I have Maynard's House on my list for 2025 -- have a pretty Centipede Press edition staring at me from across the room. This year, I felt nothing I was reading was as horrific as the daily news and I'm not sure 2025 will be any better. But what can you do but read on? Cheers, Olly!
I have that copy as well! I also have ‘The House Next Door” by Centipede Press. They are beautiful books but pricey, oh well I figured I’ve spent nearly as much for mint copies of many other vintage titles and get better quality with these.
@@tyler2610 One of my local go-to SF/horror stores has that edition of The House Next Door and I nearly picked it up the other day. But I spent such a ridiculous amount on fancy books this year, I thought it was time to try to rein it in. We'll see if I still feel that way the next time I'm in ... 😉
@@troytradup I haven’t read it yet but both sound good and are in my pile, or rather mountain of books currently on my dresser waiting to be read. I don’t know what your local bookstore is asking for that copy but the best deal I found was around $60 from Ziesing online. Not sure if that is still current or if they even have it anymore as I bought mine about a year ago.
I only read two horror books this year Live Girls and Swan Song and they were both amazing. Swan Song was the stronger of the two with well written characters and that ending just got me with the feels. Live Girls was just a fun trashy horror novel.
@@stephennootens916 live girls by Ray garton?? I read that in high school and that book stuck with me over the years. Thought it was a unique take on the vampire mythos
@@quantumparadox2518 Yes it is the same one, I read it for GarbAugast this year and it was amazing. I do not think I will find another vampire novel like it as long as I live.
The Witnesses Are Gone was too nebulous and unfocused for me. It starts strong, but IMO it meanders and does not pay off on its premise. However, I am reading Experimental Film now and really enjoying it. Then I’ll complete the full “Cursed Film” quadrilogy with Flicker and Night Film. Interested in which will be my favorite. Is TWAG yours or one of the others?
Very enticing list but I've discovered that my library doesn't care for horror. I did put many of them on my Amazon wishlist but I may not be able to wait for All the Fiends of Hell.
Hey thanks for the video ! I will definitely check All the fiends of hell For me the best horror was the last two that I read : Full Brutal by Kristopher Triana and Brother by Ania Alhborn, I'm scared that anything will feel "meh" after these ^^
Thanks (again) for your kind words about Rest Stop! So happy it made your list! My small press has more short Nat Cassidy coming in 2025. :)
Oh fantastic, I shall look forward to reading it
I'm proud of you and what you've accomplished with your channel. Keep giving people this literary work. Cheers and happy holidays.
Happy holidays!
Thanks so much for including That Which Stands Outside, Olly! I'm really thrilled that you enjoyed it so much!
Thanks for including Letters to the Purple Satin Killer!
My favorite horror read of the year was Thomas Harris's Red Dragon. The writing was exquisite and never slowed the pace of the plot.
I read that this year too and enjoyed it. Although i wouldn't really consider it a horror personally more of a crime thriller.
Thanks for the list. Because I think you like to look up books here are my top 5 new (newish?) horror books of the past year: The Unmothers by Leslie J. What fun! More books for my wish list. Thanks Olly, and Happy Holidays to you and your family! 😊🇨🇦🎄
I just got I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom for Christmas. Looking forward to that one.
My favorite horror novels this year were The Haunting of Hill House and My Best Friend's Exorcism. I will be definitely picking up more by Jackson and probably Hendrix, too.
Merry Christmas Olly, wish you all the best for the year to come.
I just finished Rest Stop and loved it!

Thanks for all you do on your channel, Olly. Happy Holidays!
Im with you on the cursed video books. Love them
Thanks for the top ten. They all sound fab but here are two that really appeal, I'm a fan of isolated, wintery settings. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for all the recommendations Olly, Rest Stop sounds fantastic! I need to read more Adam Neville in 2025. Merry Christmas!

That’s such a great book!
Ohhhhh, Eat Them Alive. It's a masterpiece of pulpy trash. Highly absurd but equally fun and hilarious.
I have a nice hardcover of it. ❤
Awesome list! Happy holidays! 📖☕️🎉
Merry Christmas! 🎄⛄💚

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas to you and to all the people you love 🎄🎅🎁📖📚
Great list. I've added some books to my wish list.
All The Fiends Of Hell was my number one pick, as well.
Merry Christmas 🎄

I loved the Grady Hendrix book...the fingernail scene made me wince so bad i had to pause reading for a moment...lol

Nice list. I read a lot of old horror as well cause the new releases hasn't been very tempting.

Salems Lot by Stephen King was my favorite horror read in 2024. Great!
Oo I'm just about to start that!
@michaelcolbourn6719 definitely one of his best!
