  • ⚡Welcome back to #Enertea: The COP27 Recap Edition! This is a 3-part series talking about the big topics this year: fossil fuels, loss and damage, and finally, what’s next? ️
    Next up: LOSS AND DAMAGE
We've all seen stories of record-breaking floods, heatwaves, and storms around the world - disproportionately borne by countries that have historically contributed the least to climate change. This is where the demand for loss and damage comes in.
Two days after the actual deadline, countries agreed to establish a loss and damage fund, which will be focused on "identifying and expanding sources of funding” to facilitate wealthier countries helping poorer countries cope with the escalating impacts of the climate crisis. Poor countries have been pushing for a fund like this for 30 years, since the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.
The agreement to establish a Loss and Damage fund is a positive move. Though the outcomes of COPs are always complex, let's celebrate this as a huge win 🎉
