If I had to make a wild guess, I imagine this game uses some form of simplified raytracing known as raycasting to get that effect. Fun fact, raycasting was used all the way back in Wolfenstein. Regardless of how long this technique has existed, it is still very impressive how it's used here

Doesn't even need raycasting, just use the standard 3d object rendering algorithm (which flattens every face you can see into a 2d image for your monitor) and turn that into an ingame object rather than converting it to pixels. Though its probably using a more complex version designed to be reversible.

Downloaded it immediately, it was even better than I imagined.
