The highest I could play with traditional grip was 160... 170 I was barely hanging on and basically didn't count. *If you can play 180, no sweat..* *_you are an absolute beast_*
Played up to 160 cleanly with traditional grip. 170 and 180 were messy. I've been practicing this for about a year. A year ago i was playing up to 140 clean, so I'm impressed by the improvement. I also use several other of their videos.
My first percussion camp is today and I just played the entire exercise using traditional grip. I don't think I will have any chop left over for camp and at 180 my diddles sounded like buzz roll.
A diddle is essentially when you stroke two notes in a row on one hand at an even consistency. Usually if you see a diddle as a slash through a note you play the second stroke of the diddle half way through the note value. So a diddle on the first note of two eighth notes will be played as 1 e & with the sticking of R R L or L L R. It is a simple concept, but difficult to explain. It is a lot easier to learn by watching. The most important thing is that you’re making the second stroke of the diddle sound the same as the first stroke. Try not to make the second stroke weaker or have a different height or sound. Consistency is key. We will try to find a video to help you.
@@DrumLifestyle Thank you for the explanation. I won't give up on learning diddles!! Right now left hand is weak since my left hand is probably not doing correct traditional grip since again self taught since i was never taught all these techniques i should've already know, im dreaming of becoming better for my 2nd year marching. I feel embarrassed for my first season but thats why im going to learn and become a better player for my high school.
played it relatively clean up to 150, then chopped out, until i looked at the comments who challenged anyone to do it at 160 clean and tried it and my hands almost fell off

Oof at 150 had to switch to matched grip 🅱️oi
Come back and let us know if you can do it trad now. We’d like to hear about your improvements since then.
Something that really helped my kids was choking up a smidge to make the stick a little tighter.
ok it’s settled. i’m a sucky snare drummer.
We’ve all been there. You got this.

The buzzes sound like the diddle at the higher speeds.

How do play diddles?? Dont you just make he note 2x faster?? Im confused because no one taught me that. Might as well be self taught lol

I started feeling chopped out at 150, nice exercise though🥁🔥
If someone can play 160 NOT sloppy, they are a robot. I can’t even play it period. I need someone to record them playing this at 160.
Oh, that's petty good.
Impressive…. But can that person play a train beat? 😂😂😂😂

I kinda made it through 170 but not much, so that's what I'll say I reached xD
I love this but I would love to see the sticking.
Alternating sticking, but the slashed notes are diddled. :)
Drum Lifestyle thanks I figured it out afterward. I’m just not very good at snare.😂
