    I loved this idea. Being a pot and earth gardener myself and seeing a different way of doing things... well its refreshing. I also raise my child to help with gardening and always teaching him what is growing, how to make it grow, and answering any questions he has on the topic of gardening. Well anyways thank you and I hope to see more post. :)

    Very nice harvest! I like the idea of using shrimp, but my big fish would eat them. That's neat that your kids are helping out and having fun in the process. Good luck.

    I LOVE THIS!!!! You got it! someone asked why are the tanks curved. I have fish at home and I know from experience that the curvature will help the water to circulate better and not leave too many "dead spots" I imagine the flow would also help stimulate the roots. I think for instance that that would be a bigger root ball than you would find on another plant grown with this method but less flow. Thank you for the lovely relaxing music as well!

    I think the shrimp's waste is what fertilizes the plants. In turn, the plants filter the water so it stays relatively clean.

  • @otivaeey
    @otivaeey 14 років тому

    fish is avoided because they eat roots. If you pump fine bubbles into the water which attaches to the roots, then your vegetables will be perfectly healthy. Looks like this is purely hydroponic, the spotlight is not on fish and shrimps.

I and my family would like to see it and be able to observe you guys doing this business. I have a small aquaponic system inside my apartment but because of the weather condition here in Jilin province, I cannot do more. This system that you have would really work in the Philippines for sure.
    Sir, can we visit your place sometime this summer? If it's okay for you.

    From my experience with Static Hydroponics for lettuce and veges, his floating raft mechanism will probably have an AIR GAP , note the thickness of the raft plastic itself. This airgap allows the plant to take in Oxygen directly from the air whilst the roots take in nutrients and is cleaned by the Shrimp. I suspect he may also have a solids filter. He may also be using supplements in the water as fish/shrimp waste is inadequate for proper plant growth.

    This is really neat. I have a question and I am hoping you can answer it. Where do you grow the shrimp? In baskets where you can be sure the birds don't eat them? Or in the open environment? Don't you worry about the kids and adults stepping on them? I want to learn more about the shrimp, as I love to eat shrimp and want to be more sustainable on our property and I would love to know what we are eating is healthier. But I have never raised shrimp before. I have raised fish, however and found that terribly rewarding.
