I shaved my head and love it, but i'm trying to grow and maintain short thick 4c hair intentionally (because I don't have the energy for long hair mess lol and think I actually look great with short hair.) And honestly the primary thing i'm disappointed with isn't my texture, it's the thickness/density. For some reason parts of my hair just grow slower and with a lower density than others and it's ALWAYS the sides of my heads/edges. It's not breakage (I don't think), it just naturally grows that way. And it's so frustrating because it makes my hair look patchy and sparse. I'll try these tips out because I realize I had a fed up moment with my hair last year and just shaved it off and have enjoyed not giving a shit about it, but I guess I can't expect it to thrive if it's in survival mode lol. But i'm also afraid i'll try these things and realize my hair just IS sparse and patchy even at it's optimal health. I don't want to think I have 'bad' hair because it's sparse, but it's hard not to when you don't want to have or want long hair, and that seems to be the only kind of hair that conceals sparcity. Shit's hard for thin, sparse short 4c hair

Thanks for sharing! I COMPLETELY understand the 1000% done attitude towards a challenging head of hair. Perhaps shift your attention to the positive things about your hair. For me, that looked/looks like me tracking my hair progress, turning wash day (when I'm not filming lol) into a MASSIVE spa day with the WORKS (like rose petals, lotion that smells so good I want to cry, exfoliating my soul, etc.), and saying and thinking positive things about my hair and myself. I ZERO IN on what I have to work with. (plus...staying away from unattainable hair images 🙃. that's a big one. gotta work with what you've got.) I hope this helps!

@@TheStarPuppy Thank you so much! This is such a kind comment. And yeah, I do think focusing on what I do like about my hair is for the best, i've really been leaning into self care these past few months, and have focused on the physical, emotional, etc. but I somehow left my hair out of it. I actually got up and gave my hair some TLC (water, my own scalp oil inspired from your video, and some leave in) because she was dry and it only took 5 minutes because I have an inch of hair lol. And I felt a bit better about it! It looks better and healthier, and I've at least moved to a neutral zone about how I feel about it. Thanks for the consistent encouragement on not forgetting to love and care for that part of us, especially when it's not loved by the world!

She hit the nail on the head when she said you have to be okay with your hair looking shorter than it naturally is. You have to be able to accept the natural shrinkage and where it the way it is as is! Also, Wash & gos are meant for most of our hair so we need to really take advantage of them and utilize it because it gives you the ability to be able to protect your hair, and still be able to wear your hair out without always having to put it up all the time.

I can say I have passed on these successful products/methods to my daughters who are also natural. My hair has experienced substantial growth and continues to be extremely healthy for the past years! The one thing I noticed is that what you call your wash n gos are actually finger coils. Finger coils are kinder to 4c. Traditional Wash n gos are too unkind to my ends, but finger coils are fantastic and very kind to ends.

@@soraya.e5482 Of course anybody can do it. It some of us type 4s find that a classic wash n go is tough on ends.
The wash n go video I saw of hers includes finger twirling with tons of product, which is much kinder to tightly coiled ends as the hair gets manually clumped and separated out, same as twists or plaits . I do not call that a wash n go, even though she calls it that.
A classic wash n go does not include that much manual definition aside from shingling and shaking. She goes in and twirls, which is lovely, and ,in my opinion, a differentt style.
Here is how she does it ua-cam.com/video/NJxN-YsCqjU/v-deo.html

@@politereminder6284 well , I’m saying type 4 hair can do both.weather you want to do whatever she did in her video the finger coils or you want to just wash and just go. It’s considered a low manipulation that is not rough on the strands. Your letting your hair just do what it does. What’s more organic than a wash n go? No other hair style is ..

@@soraya.e5482 Of course _anybody's_ hair can do a classic wash n go. My hair can do it too. It's just not as good for length retention and thickness attainment for people who are extremely tangle prone and tend towards single strand knots. .
But the way she does it, If she calls it a finger coil, like it actually is, it is less misleading than claiming that wash n gos help with her length retention. This can mislead some 4cs.
Of course, she can call it whatever she wants 🤷. But people need to understand that it is really a wash-n-do-the-most, then go, which is lovely.n

@@politereminder6284 plenty of you tubers who have coily and 4c textures do wash and gos frequently and still retain length. You can even search on the internet and find people with 4c who retain length using wash and gos. At this point it just come down to preference some people want to wear their hair as it is and some people like to cover their hair or manipulate it to look another texture don’t blame it on length retention because people with 4c can grow their without the aid of anything. Hair will always grow and if you leave it alone you will see the length. how is the hair supposed to know your doing a wash n go ? It only needs hydration and to seal the ends. Wash n gos provide that.

Funny I just cut my hair a week or so ago and I love it more than when it was long. I love having a coily, kinky, curly Bob. The shrinkage makes it look even better. I stopped using aloe years ago but I’ll give it another try

In the 12 years I’ve been natural and 12 years I’ve been watching videos on UA-cam, it’s the first time I find a natural hair influencer that has hair I can relate with. I’ve literally decided to by a notebook to write down some your advice. THANK YOU
*oh yes please can you make an updated video of that secret scalp oil ? Perhaps you’ve made it already. Stu have to go trough your playlists

My hair is Fluff Nugget’s cousin! What you’ve achieved is amazing. Checking out your super secret oil video 😎. Hair is in Senegalese twists now...not sure if watering it would help or cause tangles. Definitely starting with regular watering when I take these out. Thanks so much for all you do D...Star Puppy, away! 💕
