5k miles service is not to skip cause you dont see the point... you have the knowledge but your thought process baffles. Skip skip skip.. dont need, dont need. Make sure bikes washed and skip and let's do oil change.

The way you mentioned in this video is how the clutch cable is adjusted NOT the clutch. The clutch is adjusted by loosening the clutch cable at the point you mentioned and then remove the derby cover and adjust the clutch inside the derby cover at the clutch basket. Once it is adjusted there then you readjust the cable to have a set amount of free play in the clutch lever. Read a manual before giving wrong information. Good video though.

If you take a look in the video description, I had linked to RevZilla's procedure detailing the full adjustment. I've always found that a full adjustment is not normally necessary at 5000 miles, but it certainly is later on. Thanks for watching!

How many miles does a Harley do before it ends up with an engine strip on UA-cam?

The main goal of the 5K maintenance is the oil and filter change. After owning several HD bikes, I have found them to be totally reliable with minimum disassembly and inspection. Since HD uses a lot of one use hardware (e.g. deformed locknuts for example), it is IMO important to replace the hardware after disassembly to prevent items from coming loose, esp. on long road trips. Everything I inspected on the bike was just as it left the factory - HD did a great job on assembling my bike and everything was functioning very smoothly - very pleased with this 2016 Road King, for sure. Of course, I keep the bike cleaned and waxed, which I think helps. I also live in a very dusty environment (Phoenix), so excessive lubing of items like levers and jiffy stands could lead to more wear as dirt and dust gets into the lube and becomes like sandpaper. Just my 2 cents worth!

I agree on over lube. I am an industrial equipment maintenance tech. I have found that excess oil or grease will attract dirt and cause more harm than good. And I also have found that the manufactures way is not necessarily the best way. They have to build the machine to be a one size fits all. Someone might live in Alaska or in Arizona. They do the best to make it outlast the warranty and save cost. So doing a little research and having some common sense can help you modify slightly the components and techniques used to better suit your riding style, environment, etc...

    Great guide!
Would this guide be for only your bike or could I use it to do a service on my 2011 wide glide?

The basic concepts are the same, but specifics like oil type may vary, so definitely check those procedures with relation to your specific model. Thanks for watching!

probably not an warranty issue; but if they tell me they suggest such and such an type of oil; im going to use that type of oil.

You were suggesting to use a Harley brand gauge and pump for the shock, I was just holding my breath before you suggested pumping the shocks with Harley brand air out of some magical canister. Dont promote Harley brand tools and oils, after market high quality stuff is usually much better. I own a 2013 Road king, yes I love it but the quality and heart that should go into it was left in Hong Kong unfortunately. Harley is a multi billion dollars company, they will cut corners and use mulch for parts when they can. Harley should be built like a WW2 german tank with lots of pride and be robust, they feel flimsy to me, they should definitely be more beastie.

You should take down this video and come back with a fresh piece when you actually perform the service work... not stand there and give your audience a bunch of hypothetical !

    • @mattywrecker

You should take down your comment and come back with a fresh one when you can say something constructive instead of being a dick and talking **** about a guy sharing his thoughts on what HE does to HIS bike, on his own time. This is a free format- so pretty sure you can just skip to another video that suits your needs- not like you paid hard earned money to watch this video and got ripped off- its FREE! I also don't think he is looking to make a career out of this- so your advice probably didn't get much notice except from me because bullies bother me.
I also don't see any videos on your channel that YOU made on YOUR own free time about YOUR 5k service, for everyone to watch and reference either....
@redonkilaus - appreciate you taking time out to record this. I am doing my first 5k service on my Road King Special- and although you don't cover everything that I am looking for, I do appreciate you sharing what you do for your service- and also gave me some notes to watch for as well. Thanks!

You should show how to actually adjust the clutch, not just say "adjust it accordingly". that doesn't explain anything.
