you can make your LEDs directional , when wiring your front and back LEDs together wire them red to black and black to red ,, as the current only goes one way through LEDs ,, if they come on in the wrong direction turn your plug round to switch polarity
You don't have to put diodes on LEDs because they are diodes. Good tip shakey😊
So much fun to convert the blue box to DCC. Clean the wheels, add those LED's. Solder the wires to the motor top and bottom. take the clip off the motor before soldering. yup. your having fun! Love doing this to my blue box.
i was nearly screaming at you to unclip the bogie side frames to make life easier 🤣🤣🤣
I like your neat wiring Dave. Those plugs are a great solution. Put a diode on one of the LED legs at each end and the head light should only come on in direction of travel. 👍
I've been trying different methods. Sometimes I'll add a red light at the back, sometimes they are directional etc. I've ordered up some tiny leds, so I can add all sorts of combinations.
thank you. I'm trying to learn all I can about loco repair and maintenance.
I've found the best way to learn is to rip it apart and see how it works. Hopefully I can get it back together again, lol.
Ol' Sparky rides again, but now he's the Smooth Operator.
I always do a bit of research when I'm working on a Loco. I watched a video where these big locos are used for hauling passenger trains, which surprised me, as I thought they would just be used for hauling freight.
I do quite like this one.
nice running loco dave grand job bud
Thanks Peter. This is a common design over here by Athearn. Ultra reliable and easy to work on.
The wheels are sintered metal and are dirt magnets.
I had to look up "sintered". Thanks for that, I now have even less room in my brain.
Looking good.
Magnificent catches of the model trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars, keep up the great work, my friend, i subbed your channel, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Thank you very much. I'm in Canada. Tenha um ótimo dia
@@ScottRails thanks
@@ScottRails it would be nice to have you as my new subscriber.
The wee engineer will fall off the walkway if there isn't a handrail...
Yeah. I might have an idea for that.
Dave no cab lights in the southern pacific I’m wondering if there’s a lower intensity bulb that you can put in to give the engineer some light to see what he is doing 😂!!!????
New bulbs will be here soon.
And maybe print some military vehicles for the flat cars???? Your certainly hauling a lot of chemical cars I hope you don’t have a derailment!!!LOL!!!
Yes, I need to rotate my freight, mix it up a little. I have other plans for the flat cars.
where did you get your wire stripper?
I honestly can't remember. Judging by the colour it was either Princess Auto or Canadian tire (Mastercraft)
It wasn't an expensive tool. I found something similar on Amazon...

Thank you.
What size LED, vottage wise, etc
These are 12v bulbs with resistors.
