Hello, I have the same saw. Ported and same exhaust. I run an 18, 20, and 25 inch bars on it. I brought the saw from stihlusa on ebay in 2013, still runs today. I'm glad to see literally the same saw on UA-cam.
Wow that's the first ported saw that I've seen which just wants to get at the wood and then some. Power , torque and rpms at max levels. Has to be the best one you've done.
Tinman, thanks for the vid's, I recently bought an MS440 magnum with a 42" bar. Owner said that he bought it to cut down three large trees and didn't need it anymore as he had three other saws. I got it cheap because I think everyone was afraid of the length of the bar. I watched your vid's and made the purchase, took it home cleaned it up and its in top shape. I also put a 24" bar on it and replaced the muffler to a duel port and changed the air filter to an HD as you have suggested. I haven't had the chance yet to put it to hard labor but it runs like a scalded cat.. Thanks for the video's as they help the not so talented.
With a skip tooth that saw would have no problem taking the stock saw competition. Port work is about all you can do in that class. Since I've been watching you I've been able to get a few old saws running pretty damn good. I love my 266XP It's nice to have it running again. I wouldn't have checked the case and shaft seals if it weren't for you Tinman. Thanks.
You were right when you said that ms440 was stoooooopid! Stock except for a dual port muffler? Geesh that's crazy, congrats on that build. I liked it when you said You could always more saws.... you have the right attitude and probably made that guy's day. Well done Tinman.
I start all my fires with noodles for sure.. The rest goes in the compost or used as mulch around our plants in the garden. That saw is pretty stout for sure. I have another 044 on the shelf, i think I'll give it the same treatment as this one.
New to your channel brother! I love Power Saws of every kind! But the 10mm 044 was the very first saw that blew my mind! I have a Ported 661 with a dual chamber muffler and Max flow intake! The thing feels like the power and torque of a Hot Rod 12 valve! The the channel brother killer saw!✌🏻🤟🏻😎
Do you mind sharing some numbers on that saw? My dad has a ratty old 440 that I think could use a bottom end rebuild and I would like to try my hand at porting it. I know some guys don't like giving out their numbers so I understand if you don't want to.
Hey Joe, I don't mind giving out basic numbers here and there but I typically don't give numbers out on saws that warm as I feel it may get folks into trouble.
Tinman you got some great videos! I watch them all the time. That 440 screams! If you don’t mind me asking what did your numbers end up being on this one?
3/8" .050, full comp round filed by hand. Cant remember raker height. Probably just right but how smooth she cut and how nice she pulled through the wood. Id say those rakers were probably. 030". I change em up depending on time of year and what im cutting.
O I'm glad I asked b4 I just dove in I collect saws I got 28 so far but I will have more I have a huge gear drive mac but I cant find any numbers on it so I have no clue what it is I'm not sure how to find out
Hahaha I don't know what this wood is but I know it's petrified says the Tinman. Petrified how? Perrified as in real dry and hard, or petrified of a Tinman saw? Lol That thing is mean buddy!
badass man the old saws were built on a different level

Wow that 440 is an animal I love the feel of a ported saw u still got that big old poulan
Yeah its here, ill pull it back out when I have time
That saw rips! The 044 is one of my favorites. Good power and great balance with a 20” bar.
One of the only stock saws I run is an old 044. That saw runs so good I've never wanted to open it up.

She's a runner for sure! Sweet build!

Yeah that saw was and is stupid.
Stock??? Hehe I did a lot of grinding on that one, the only thing stock is the dual port muffler lol.
Jesus that´s a nice one! I rebuild an old 044 model with the 10mm crankshaft pin. She got only a dual port muffler, but runs great!
Wow that thing is wicked!! Made some awesome fire starter! Noodles will burn great and hot for fire starter. Impressive!!
I start all my fires with noodles for sure..
The rest goes in the compost or used as mulch around our plants in the garden.
That saw is pretty stout for sure. I have another 044 on the shelf, i think I'll give it the same treatment as this one.
That thing is just nasty. Goes through that ash like my saw moves through box elder....ugh. Wow. Thanks for sharing Tinman!

Absolute beast! I can only hope my 462 will perform that well once I’ve got it broke in. Keep posting the good stuff.
If your 462 is ported it should for sure.

That saw is the get money saw I get money with it I run mines with a 20in bar with the barkbox muffler it is nice man
Stihl barks good when you feed her the go pedal
Do you mind sharing some numbers on that saw? My dad has a ratty old 440 that I think could use a bottom end rebuild and I would like to try my hand at porting it. I know some guys don't like giving out their numbers so I understand if you don't want to.

@@tinmanssaws that's perfectly ok. Where do you think I would be at with just a base gasket delete and a good muffler and intake?
@@GreatLakesLogger 440s run awesome with a dual port muffler and a base gasket delete.
Tinman you got some great videos! I watch them all the time. That 440 screams! If you don’t mind me asking what did your numbers end up being on this one?

I like the old Stihl ms 230
100° ex 120° Trans and 160° intake.
Its a stock screamer
3/8" .050, full comp round filed by hand.
Cant remember raker height. Probably just right but how smooth she cut and how nice she pulled through the wood.
Id say those rakers were probably. 030".
I change em up depending on time of year and what im cutting.

Wow that ms 440 is nice
HEY TINMAN, YOU EVER SEE THE THROTTLE LOCKS ON THE HUSKY 61'S GO BAD? IS THERE A KNOWN FAILURE PROBLEM WITH THEM?
What did you all modify? do you have the opening degree from the ports for me?

Looks and sounds like a beast, cuts like a real mad beast!! Stay safe buddy!👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
Yep shes angry. This is one build that really woke up after some time.
Super cuts!

You should wrap your thumb around that handle bar, with that much power you want the brake to work just Incase.
Hahaha I don't know what this wood is but I know it's petrified says the Tinman. Petrified how? Perrified as in real dry and hard, or petrified of a Tinman saw? Lol That thing is mean buddy!
