This album makes heavy use of plunderphonics, a technique of basically making a song out of samples. The whole album is full of samples from 80’s commercials, some which have only been recently discovered and some that are yet to be. Crazy stuff from OPN
David Bowie’s LOW. co-written with Brian Eno is a classic album, that i am now pretty sure you would enjoy. Perhaps mostly for the ambient, electronic B-side
I wouldn’t really call that album ambient. More Jazz/Classical/Electronic but either way, I love this album and would love to see a reaction to it as well!
This album is so fucking classic to me, reminds me of Burial (tbh the album color palette is rlly similar tho…) Also when we getting Title Fight - Floral Green (and Shed pls bro) Circa Survive - Juturna Converge - Jane Doe Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill Brave Little Abacus - Just Got Back From the Discomfort
LETS GOOOO. ok, so this album is a concept album comprised of tons of samples from old commercials and jingles, using a loose sci-fi narrative imagining a future civilization trying to reconstruct what music in the past must’ve been like upon finding our sonic remains but getting it wrong, kind of like archaeologists finding dinosaur bones but putting them together incorrectly. As you can imagine, this idea was hugely influential to the world of vaporwave and the conceptual framework that a lot of those early vaporwave artists were riffing off of (other foundational albums for vaporwave are chuck person’s ECCOJAMS, a side project of OPN’s, and James Ferraro’s Far Side Virtual) this albums a grower for sure, the unnatural samples and repetitions that come off as grating on first listen take on a haunting beauty when considered as pieces depicting humanity’s failure to understand the remnants of its past while stubbornly creating new forms despite all that. R + 7 deepens these ideas into full symphonies of bug nuts sample manipulations and lushhhhh post human synth work. Definitely recommend you listen to that next, it’s one of the best albums of the last 25 years, think you’ll like it a lot more, it’s smoother where this one is way more jagged rough edges. Also gonna second the recc’s for Tracey Denim, I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning, AND Dawn FM, AND cosmogramma, all fire albums.
This was a dope one to get your thoughts on! Not an electronic rec, but if you love ambient music you should definitely check out Flood by Boris. It’s like the chill version of Feedbacker. A very beautiful and meditative guitar driven ambient post-rock album that I think you’d really fuck with. Also more Brian Eno! He was actually the first person to label their music as ambient with his 1978 album Music for Airports. A first in a series of ambient albums by him and other collaborators. Music for Airports is verys simplistic, but beautiful and very influential in what it set out to do artistically. One of the best albums to either relax or get work done to. Would definitely be interested to hear your thoughts on this and more of his work in general. Keep up the great work dude!
You are a legend for doing this record, some fantastic choices on this channel and the rate you put out videos is sick. This album is a masterpiece, Sleep Dealer is my favourite, the whole album is so melancholic but this song has something about it and the samples have such a sadness like the passing of time and generation loss. To be able to create a song with those feelings is one thing but the fact it all comes from a chewing gum advert is so admirable. Daniel Lopatin is a genius. Thanks again for this review, your channel is ace and it’s sick ambient is your favourite, mine too and I am a beginner creator of it. An electronic artist album for you to review is Succour by Seefeel, it’s probably the album out there most similar to SAW Vol. 2 but with a hint more ambient techno. It’s a very similar vibe and feels like it’s from the same world as SAW and AFX had done a remix of Seefeel’s track Time To Find Me and they have other remixes with Cocteau Twins and Autechre.
If you like ambient music I'd recommend Stars of The Lid - And Their Refinement of The Decline, it's imo the most beautiful ambient record ever made and easily on my top ten records. Gorgeous and melancholy.
Hell yeah! i remember requesting this one on one of your old BOC vids! glad ur finally getting to it its a crazy album! some reccomendations: endtroducing by Dj shadow eccojams vol.1 by chuck person (an OPN alias) (this one can be a little hard to listen to for the first time tho but id love to see ur reaction, its also one of the very first vaporwave albums) Returnal by OPN Pure phase by spiritualized Trilogy by Carpenter Brut
YESSS Was wondering if you were gonna get around to this artist and you FINALLY DID!!! I still say you should check out his next album R Plus Seven(which is very different) but I;'m EXCITED to watch this!
thanks for checking this out! it definitely does take a bit to grow on you (especially Nassau and Child Soldier lmao), it was originally like a 7/10 for me but now it's my favourite electronic album. something that made me love this album more is that like 80-ish% is made of samples of vintage commercials. you should check out some videos of a guy named Sgt. Talby on youtube where he breaks down a bunch those commercial samples and recreates the songs using them
Yes dude glad you got round to this recommendation, looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Listening to this on a good hifi system at max quality is where it’s at 👌 if you’re looking for other ambient albums id recommend music for airports by Brian eno or maybe biosphere’s substrata. Keep up the good work mate 💪
favorite genre ambient?? awesome!! for some ambient recos... i think you would adoooore natural snow buildings - the dance of the moon and the sun. seems like your flavor, a little long about as long as selected ambient works vol 2 but theres plenty of folk songs mixed in there as well, a bit droney but its all so good the 15 minute tracks feel like 5 minutes. its like wandering around a gigantic forest with the most beautiful trees youve ever seen. raum - daughter is another amazing ambient album, its mostly just guitar and piano (mostly piano) but something about it is so crushing but so calming
Whoa, totally unexpected to see a review to this. This was in HEAVY rotation for me when it came out. Few recommendations for you if you ever get around to them: M83 - Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People Women - Public Strain Keep up the great work, you’re great at this
Amazing as always, love your electronic music reactions the most. I'd love for you to hear more opn. but before then I would love to see you check out LP5 by Autechre. I feel bad for constantly commenting about it but you did tell us to remind you of our recs, lol. Also I've got a couple of people who are waiting to see that happen 🙏
“i wasn’t sure if i was gonna be scared or sleepy to that song, turns out i was both” that sums up this album very well lmao, great video :) you should react to his album “eccojams vol. 1” that he released under the alias chuck person, which is often credited as the first vaporwave album ever. insanely ethereal and hypnotising but also almost sinister at some points; definitely worth a listen
If you like ambient, I highly recommend Lamentations by William Basinski. Beware that it has a REALLY dark atmosphere, but I think that's what makes it so beautiful and special
holy shit now that i think about it, if vou havent heard hurry up, we´re dreaming by m83 its got like insanely cinematic electric production and some shoegaze in there too. i think that fits stuff youve ranked highly very well
FUCK YEAH such a great record, all his stuffs great tbh. Think I recd Women - Public Strain a while back, would love to see a reaction to that one, very unique record.
I would love to watch your reaction to Komachi from Meitei. It's a really great album to relax with some beautiful Japanese samples and vocal chops that some People compare to J Dilla and create a gorgeous and interesting atmospheric landscape. Love your videos :)
definiutely return to sleep dealer it took me some time but for that to grow on me but now its a top 3 track for me on this album but yeah, of course I recommend more of this guy's stuff, R Plus Seven and Garden of Delete, and Magic too and gotta recommend again some Matthew Dear because he's one of my favorites that has seemed to have been forgotten about a bit, and even earlier on he was never big even in the indie scene but definitely known. Now it seems like hes barely known nobody talks about him. So I know it'll take forever to get to him if ever, nobody gonna be requesting iy. But I highly recommend either Asa Breed or the debut Leave Luck to Heaven as introductions, or his most popular Beams
This album is disassociation and I like how it has hip hop mixtape feel. a lot music is like this now. You should check out Laurel Halo, Actress, Andy Stott, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and a lot music from the UK experimental scene. It definitely shares the eccentricities of Dean Blunt project or hypnagogic pop and vaporwave
Yeeee lets gooo replica Every album oneohtrix dropped 2010-2015 is worth reacting to imo. like aphex twin, he’s highly eclectic and all his other albums are stylistically very different from this one AND each other His new one from 2023 is great too
still loving the videos my guy a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
You have to listen to knocknarea - maruja, its their debut ep, came out around last year, such good music. Kind of reminds me of black midi, its post punk/rock. You would like it.
His movie soundtracks are really good GOODTIME and Uncut Gems. GOODTIME is actually one of my favorite projects ever it has my favorite song of his on it , ,,Leaving the Park
You should listen to the new Smile album released today - Wall of Eyes. The Smile is Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwoods side band (Radiohead off shoot). Its an interesting album, jazzy krautrocky and soulful.
Ok so on some real real, I found this album when I was DEEPLY depressed, I’m talking black hole darkness depression, and this album, specifically Andro stuck with me so strongly that most of my other pfps on other online accounts is this album cover but edited. This album is special to me.
Man I love OPN! My personal favorite OPN album is Magic Oneohtrix Point Never. Also my next recommendation for you would be Hurry Up, We're Dreaming by M83. It's a really unique blend of synth pop and shoegaze, and I think you'll really like it!
There’s a video called “All (known) samples in Oneohtrix Point Never’s Replica” that will really put into perspective how strange and complex these compositions are. Highly recommended watching it (like 3 minutes)
please, do more OPN 😭 or Dawn FM by The Weeknd, he (OPN, I mean) has a lot of production duties on that album, and through that the album is pretty enjoyable
check out the youtube video tracing the video samples on this album - insane level of work and creativity that went into this that made me appreciate it so much more.
fuck yeah dude!!!! replica is such a killer album such a non conventional boundary pushing use of samples to make crazy dense atmospheres!! if you're looking for more experimental electronic ambient kinda works id highly recommended Virgins by Tim Hecker!!! super dark noisy active alive all over the place album with tons of beautiful piano passages and insane sound design work!!
Review flying Lotus, cosmogramma
please god yes
Yeah that album is crazy
YES

@@resiseven7407he's listened to it though, he put it in an "albums I recommend" video

Sleep Dealer is absolutely mad when you find out the commercial he sampled
great album, give R Plus Seven a chance as well (my favorite OPN album).
And garden of delete 😎
Also Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol.1
chrome country may be one of the greatest ending songs of all time
great album
David Bowie’s LOW. co-written with Brian Eno is a classic album, that i am now pretty sure you would enjoy. Perhaps mostly for the ambient, electronic B-side
This is my favorite OPN album, with that being said, another great ambient album is Promises by floating points and Pharoa Sanders
I wouldn’t really call that album ambient. More Jazz/Classical/Electronic but either way, I love this album and would love to see a reaction to it as well!
This album is so fucking classic to me, reminds me of Burial (tbh the album color palette is rlly similar tho…)
Also when we getting
Title Fight - Floral Green (and Shed pls bro)
Circa Survive - Juturna
Converge - Jane Doe
Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill
Brave Little Abacus - Just Got Back From the Discomfort

u definitely gotta do more OPN work in the future. R Plus Seven, Garden of Delete, and Again go further and further into the abstract

Huge album for me. Sleep Dealer totally changed my perception on what music can be. Amazing stuff!
Same here!!
thirded. first listen was a borderline spiritual experience

One of my fav electronic album is Two Airships/ Exploder Falls by Candy Claws. 2 tracks, 30 minutes, pure bangers.
Good words said here, Smags. Fascinating artist, it's great to hear someone getting into it.
Bro's gonna react the whole Warp catalogue and I'm here for it

great video!!! I love this album, glad you enjoyed it! pleeease pretty pls do Darklife by Death's Dynamic Shroud pleeeas 🥺
Smags? Are you ok? Why are you only reacting to great albums? Hello?! 🤣❤
Quadeca sampled the piano from replica on his track “the man on my left shoulder”
it’d be cool if you react to the smile’s wall of eyes. it’s aoty!
Plus, when's Autechre coming up? Should probably start with Amber or the Garbage EP, but Autechre are the most electronic electronic music out there.
listen to ecco jams volume 1, its was made by daniel lopatin (OPN) as well and its recognized as the first vaporwave album
OPN THE GOAT!!!!!
that's an understatement lol
You have to listen to knocknarea - maruja, its their debut ep, came out around last year, such good music.
Kind of reminds me of black midi, its post punk/rock.
You would like it.
His movie soundtracks are really good GOODTIME and Uncut Gems. GOODTIME is actually one of my favorite projects ever it has my favorite song of his on it , ,,Leaving the Park
incredible album. would love to see you check out ringo deathstarr by ringo deathstarr
Love all the reactions but we need some Weezer in here ngl. You should react to their self titled (the blue album, specifically), it’s great!
You should listen to the new Smile album released today - Wall of Eyes. The Smile is Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwoods side band (Radiohead off shoot). Its an interesting album, jazzy krautrocky and soulful.
Incredible how consist you're reactions are!! It be awesome if you reacted to "live at japan 2002.9.16" by artist Jim O'Rourke.

Great album!! You should hear Tim Hecker- Virgins
you gotta hear From Here We Go Sublime by The Field
Nils Frahm - Tripping with Nils Frahm. Piano forward, atmospheric electronic.
YESSESESSS
You should do Bar Italia, the album called Tracey Denim.
Tim Hecker next please! (Kaitlyn at the end lol, another great artist you should check out)
Ok so on some real real, I found this album when I was DEEPLY depressed, I’m talking black hole darkness depression, and this album, specifically Andro stuck with me so strongly that most of my other pfps on other online accounts is this album cover but edited. This album is special to me.
That skeleton on the cover is bad to the bone🔥🔥
Please do a video on A promise - xiu xiu!!!
Man I love OPN! My personal favorite OPN album is Magic Oneohtrix Point Never. Also my next recommendation for you would be Hurry Up, We're Dreaming by M83. It's a really unique blend of synth pop and shoegaze, and I think you'll really like it!
Seconded on both of those! Truly phenomenal albums, M83 especially is just an incredible band, so many emotions in their music
You’ve got to check out R S Plus Seven. In my opinion, it’s his best work
There’s a video called “All (known) samples in Oneohtrix Point Never’s Replica” that will really put into perspective how strange and complex these compositions are. Highly recommended watching it (like 3 minutes)
Colin Stetson : New history warfare vol.3 you might enjoy but it's more avantgarde jazz and minimalist at times
MODERN VAMPIRES OF THE CITY
You should review Endserenading by minaral it’s an awesome album by a really underrated band
I wonder how you would react/feel about the Actress album LXXXVIII, another esoteric artist with a unique sound. Put in on your list of possibles.
All of OPN should be on your to-do.
Listen to the album below the house by planning for burial I feel like you might like it
1000% this could have been the second Blade Runner soundtrack
Haunt Me by Tim Hecker please
bro gotta listen to Broadcast - Haha Sound
That's the guy who invented vaporwave dude.
I think for OPN you might like Garden of Delete or R Plus Seven better. they're more synth driven and less based around chopped vocal samples
You really should do R Plus Seven soon. This album is a little more consistent but R Plus Seven has waaay higher highs
please, do more OPN 😭
or Dawn FM by The Weeknd, he (OPN, I mean) has a lot of production duties on that album, and through that the album is pretty enjoyable
check out the youtube video tracing the video samples on this album - insane level of work and creativity that went into this that made me appreciate it so much more.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith after OPN like it was my electronica playlist lmao
You should try Virgins by Tim Hecker
fuck yeah dude!!!! replica is such a killer album such a non conventional boundary pushing use of samples to make crazy dense atmospheres!! if you're looking for more experimental electronic ambient kinda works id highly recommended Virgins by Tim Hecker!!! super dark noisy active alive all over the place album with tons of beautiful piano passages and insane sound design work!!
Burial - Kindred ep 😎
should def check out his alias album CHUCK PERSON'S ECCOJAMS Vol 1
