LIVE ON DELAWARE RIVER WATERFRONT
CITY RHYTHM ORCHESTRA "VIBRANT TONES" by David Franklin
feat: JOEY DE FRANCESCO: HAMMOND B3 ORGAN
Joey DeFrancesco’s emergence in the 1980s marked the onset of a musical renaissance. Organ jazz had been a form of music that literally went into hibernation from the mid-seventies to the mid-eighties largely because of the introduction of high-tech, light-weight keyboards. It was Joey, however, that ignited the flame once again with the sound of his vintage Hammond organ and Leslie tone cabinet. He not only illuminated this once dormant music form but brought back the many proponents of jazz organ who had been shuffled by record producers and club owners to lesser roles within the music industry. Befriending and supporting those who preceded him, Joey became the new-age proponent of an instrument that had been pushed aside in favor of the growing technology.Joey is a two time Grammy Nominee: In 2004 for his record ‘Falling In Love Again’, and, again, in 2010 for his release titled ‘Never Can Say Goodbye’. Winner of Down Beat Magazine’s Critic’s poll 2002-2008, 2012, 2013 as well as the magazines Reader’s Poll every year since 2005. In 2014 he was inducted into the inaugural Hammond Organ Hall of Fame.
Currently, Joey continues to tour with his own group and perform with all-star projects in major jazz clubs and festivals internationally. He is the weekly radio host of "Organized" on SiriusXM. New recordings and creative musical projects are all vital components in Joey DeFrancesco’s future as he continues to write, perform and stand at the fore front of the digital technology that replicates the classic Hammond organ/Leslie speaker sound.
With over thirty recordings as a leader and numerous collaborations with the masters of modern jazz in his legacy, Joey DeFrancesco deservingly takes his place with Fats Waller, Wild Bill Davis and Jimmy Smith in the lineage of Jazz Organ.
I wouldn't have been able to play in that band - would have been just laughing in disbelief/amazement the whole time.
Невероятно приятный человек.
Настоящий художник и искренний, фанатичный музыкант. Гений.
quel talent.....bon voyage ...rest in power
Great voice and style, RIP Joey...
One of greatest jazz performance video I’ve ever seen and listened to. Incredibly high level of brilliance. I knew Francesco was a jazz organist-genius but I didn’t know he was a great singer too. Thanks for publishing and sharing it. it’s phenomenal.
And trumpeter ;)
now 2020.... every word 'greatness' requires Fits Francesco 🐐
and trumpet, and tenor sax, and sometimes drums, he does it all.
RIP JOEY

The synth solo at 24:16! Now we know one of the sources of inspiration for Cory Henry's Solo in Snarky Puppy's "Lingus"
I've always thought that Lingus' solo is a Chick Corea romantic warrior reference
He played synth for miles when he was like 18 yrs old
Signed 1st album at 16, played with Miles at 17. Now is gone. What j
He leaves behind is a moutain of love transcribed in music
simply the BEST ... CR (Comfort Room) with musical genius Joey DeFrancesco..
Grat while heis doing the melodic phrases,
It’s funny to watch all the legit guys, tied to their scores, play with Joey, who probably never once played precisely what’s on the page.
“Hi. I’m in Delaware.” - Wayne
What's the reference?
It’s too bad this recording is not mixed well. In all fairness, the mix got better as the night progressed.
Smokin, man. Smokin.
Now ain't this cool? :)
Tough venue Ha!!!! Brin your clothes pegs !!!!!
Fat Sound
Lotta speed and flourishes! Has Joey lost his FEEL?
No, he's just feeling FASTER! Not all soul is slow.
Clearly you lost the feel!
Can Joey eve ply a melody????
Yes at 27:08 Il Padrino
I luv Joey, but he has less SOUL than Tony Monaco!
Edgar Barbera And Mac Duff!
