- I tackled the 1,017km (630 mile) ultra cycling race in Chile called Across Andes. I took first place for the women and 8th overall.
Part one details my pre race vacation.
Part three will share the pre and post race party.

Fab video and congratulations! Do you use a dynamo hub or not? And what's your head torch? I'm doing trans Pyrenees at end of this month :) Decided not to go for the dynamo hub yet. I also struggle to cycle although the night, I get to about 2am and then I think I start fixating on the shadow of the bike from the bike lights, particularly when there's no other lights around and find it so difficult to concentrate - any tips? 😅
Thank you! I do not use a dynamo when racing for 72 hours of less. Typically I carry 2 10,000 MAH external batteries that is enough power to charge my phone, wahoo, and airpods. I carry enough batteries for my headlight but if needed it can charge from my external battery as well (even while it's on).
For your TransPyrenees attempt and riding at night- do you listen to anything? I usually save music, podcasts, or audiobooks for the night time. It's a treat so it makes it special when you need it! I also utilize caffeine. I take caffeine gels, have caffeine drink mix, and if it's really bad I will use a caffeine pill that's 50mg. If I start to fall asleep, I pull over on the side and sleep for 5-10 minutes (setting an alarm) and then get up and keep moving. It actually works and you'll wake up feeling somewhat rested and not ready to fall asleep anymore. Good luck!!
